25: August 2011
26: Our trip to Spanish Wells started early the morning of August 19th. Our flight left Norfolk at 7:30am and we landed at North Eleuthera Airport at noon. Our taxi was waiting and took us to Jean's Bay where we boarded the water taxi for the mile ride over to Spanish Wells. The golf cart ride to SailBeach was only a few minutes because the little island is only 2 miles long by 1/2 mile wide. The pretty yellow beach house sat directly on the most gorgeous beach and water we've ever seen at the end of 14th street and was the only occupied house on the street. The overall feeling for all three of us when we stepped out of the golf cart and took in the view was a sigh in awe of the unspoiled beauty as well as total relaxation.
27: Ed rode the bike everyday to see Crazy Roy at the dock or to Bernie's house to buy the fresh catch of the day....snapper, grouper and lobster! We watched cruise ships pass in the night from our bed, played under sun filled skies in the crystal clear turquoise waters, kayaked, went out at night for homemade "soursop" ice cream at "Margo's" with James and Shantell and gladly paid $12 for a bottle of shampoo at the local Food Faire. Unfortunately our ten day trip was cut short when the hurricane south of us ramped it up and was predicted to be a Cat 4 storm by the time it crossed the Central Bahamas. ~ making us a direct hit!! Vacations in 'true paradise" are hard to find.....I guess Irene agreed and wanted to pay a visit to Spanish Wells too.
