S: Addilynn Ann Black's Adoption Story - 2010
FC: Addilynn Ann Black's Adoption Story | 2010
In January of 2009, Mommy & Daddy found out that Heavenly Father wanted us to adopt the children in our family. We prayed hard to know what to do and how to find you. In April of 2009 we went to LDS Family Services and started our home study. By mid June we had finished it and our profile was online. Shortly after that, a woman named Brittani Sunderland found our profile and really liked it. She was expecting a baby girl and loved her very much, but wasn't able to be a mommy for her. She contacted us October 16, 2009 and started to get to know us a little bit better. About a week later she asked us to be your parents. Mommy and Daddy were so excited that Brittani had picked us. It was a dream come true and the answer to many prayers. We left Idaho on January 9, 2010 to go to Fairbanks, Alaska and meet Brittani. Her birthday was the next day. We visited with her on her birthday and as she was getting ready to leave I asked you a question while you were still in Brittani's tummy, I asked you if your name was Addilynn. You kicked Brittani so we all assumed the answer was yes. As she was leaving she told you that your mommy and daddy were here and you could come any time you wanted to. Brittani left to drive home and she started having contractions. You have always been a pretty obedient child and you were delivered the next night. Our dear, sweet, little girl-- this is your story. We want all the happiness in the world for you, and part of that is knowing who you are and where you come from. We love your birth family very much and we hope that one day you take the time to get to know them. They will always love you, just as much as we do. Always remember that God has had a plan for you since before you were born. He needed you to help Brittani learn about herself and develop her courage and strength. Since you came to us through adoption, you also helped to develop Mommy& Daddy's faith in Heavenly Father's plan for us. We are so grateful that you are part of our forever family. We love you. Love, Mommy & Daddy
On Brittani's birthday she came over to the Hull's House and visited with Mommy & Daddy. We had fun looking at your baby clothes. That night Brittani went into labor,
The next morning we went to the hospital and waited, and waited, and waited some more. You took all day long to come.
Addilynn Ann Black Six pounds, ten ounces twenty-one and one half inches long
 Wish Come True
Your little new born body was so amazing. We love every inch of you. You were such a tiny little thing.
One thing you can never doubt is how much your birth mother loves you. It was a hard decision for Brittani to give up the chance to be your mother. But she knew Heavenly Father wanted you to come to our family, and she knew that she wanted you to be raised in the gospel with a mommy and daddy that could take you to the temple so that you could be part of a forever family. We want you to know that Brittani was very strong for you during this time because she chose your needs above her own.
The night you were born Mommy couldn't bear to leave you in the nursery for the night. The nurses made her go take a nap but she came back to feed you at two in the morning. She was still in shock that you were actually here and going to be her daughter. That night she rocked you in her arms and sang you the song that her mommy and daddy sang to her when she was little. That night mommy cried happy tears.
You Are My Sunshine My only sunshine. You make me happy When skies are grey. You'll never know, dear, How much I love you. Please don't take my sunshine away
Addilynn Ann One day new | You were a gorgeous baby. People couldn't get over how adorable you were. You really liked your binky. This was a cute picture because right after we took it, you flinched and accidentally pulled it out. You were so sad, but so cute at the same time.
When we were at the hospital we were able to meet Brittani's family. They are kind and good people. It was easy to see the love they had for you from the minute you were born. Watching everyone hold you melted our hearts. Someday I hope you get to meet them all: Granny Teresa, Papa Denis, Aunt Ashlee, and Uncle Kyle.
Miracles happen. You are living proof.
We all went home from the hospital on January 13th. The hospital was really kind to us and gave you a ton of baby stuff. We were all very grateful. When we got home, Daddy fed you a bottle and you went to sleep very happy.
 First diaper change at home
 First bath at home
 Spending Time with Mae Mae
Brittani decided that she wanted you to call her Mae Mae because it would be easier for you to say when you started talking. Mae Mae came to visit you our we went to visit her the rest of the time we were in Alaska.
We went and got family portraits taken with Mae Mae so that you could have a nice picture of her and our family hanging in your room. Pictures help us remember,
We left Alaska on January 23nd, 2010. You were the tiniest baby people had ever seen in the airport. We flew from Alaska, to Washington, to Utah, to Idaho. That was a pretty big adventure for a twelve day old baby. We were so excited to get you home into your own bed.
When you came home, you came home to all sorts of people who love you. Grandmas, Grandpas, Uncles, Aunts and cousins.
You grew and grew into such beautiful baby.
We finalized your adoption on October 25, 2010 in the Jefferson County Courthouse. Our caseworker, Bob Tripp, Lawyer, John Cuttler, and Judge, Robert Crawley helped us to accomplish this. Finalizing your adoption is the legal aspect of the adoption that names you as ours according to the laws of the land. For this to happen both of your birth parents had to transfer their rights to us so that we could legally be your mother and father. This took a long time because your birth father wasn't around to do that. We don't know very much about your birth father other than that his name is Ronrico, that he is African American, and that he was in the United States Airforce on assignment in Alaska. Mae Mae said that when she told him she was expecting you, he wasn't ready to be a daddy yet, and he trusted Mae Mae to make the best choice for you. We are glad he did and that you finally came to be part of our family.
 Temple Sealing Day
We were sealed forever together as a family on November 27, 2010 in the Rexburg Temple. It was a beautiful, spiritual experience and one that we are excited to experience again with you as we add more children to our family. We all felt that you knew exactly what was going on because when the sealer said, "amen" you started laughing as if you were the happiest baby in the world, thrilled to be part of our forever family. After the temple ceremony we had a little party, offically welcoming you as part of our eternal family.
In January 2011, Mae Mae came to celebrate the both of your birthdays together. You both had lots of fun playing together. It was interesting to watch the two of you because you both have many of the same facial expressions and the same serious, yet goofy personalities. It was fun to be able to pick up where we left off in getting to know your Mae Mae better. | Mae Mae's Visit
You both had birthdays when Mae Mae was here. Mae Mae's is on January 10th. Yours is on January 11th. | Birthday Girls
Mae Mae loves Addi | Mae Mae's visit helped us understand the importance of trust in having an open adoption. Mae Mae trusts us to take the very best care of you and allow her to watch you grow. We trust Brittani to live responsibly and be a good role model as you grow up. As we all live up to these responsibilities, you will benefit by being able to develop a healthy relationship with your birth family on your own terms.
We hope that this book shows you how much you are loved and that being adopted is a special privilege. You are so blessed because you have so many people that love you. Always remember that we will always be happy to answer questions about your adoption the best we can. We love you with all our hearts. Love, Mommy & Daddy
