Hello, Meow My name is Sahiba, I am sixteen years old and I am adopted .......... from an animal shelter. I’m the cat of this cool family (it's not a bad life as a cat here) and I’m writing this letter to tell you about our world and to say how much we would love to adopt your baby. At the end of my story I hope you got to know us a little better and feel comfortable that this is a loving and nurturing home. Cordula and Stefan, aka Mom and Dad, got married 12 years ago. I knew them even before, in fact Stefan gave me as a gift to Cordula. I really can say I know these two very well and one of the biggest dreams they had was a big family with adopted and biological kids but there were some difficulties. Right now we are a family of four. Cordula, Stefan, their daughter Faith (my best friend) and of course me; the most adorable and cuddliest cat in the world. | 2

Mom, (Mami in German) is from Germany and grew up in an idyllic historic town surrounded by family, friends and a variety of pets. Her parents and sister are still living there and we're visiting quite often to see the aunts, uncles and cousins as well. She is passionate about photography and enjoys scrap booking, as you probably can tell by looking at the portfolio. She loves to dance and is always hopping around while baking in the kitchen; don't tell her I said “hopping” she frequently says Dance is a sport. There is always music somewhere in the house: Faith practicing her harp or clarinet, Mom and Dad listening to their music while doing stuff in the yard or kitchen. Stefan is Country, Cordula is Rock`n Roll. I like it the most when they listening to Classic, I curl up and purr. Mom was at all times involved doing something with children. Volunteering at a local kindergarten and helping in a youth group in church, organizing hikes, theater plays, preparing songs for Sunday Mass and so on. She still is involved in church stuff. She really loves children and enjoys helping them explore their potential, but she is not a pushover when it comes to discipline. She constantly gets upset when Dad or Faith tries to feed me of the dinner table. Of course she studied in a field that involved kids as well and became a pediatric nurse, working in the OR and NICU taking care of sick newborns. | 4

Dad (Vati the German way) was born in India, lost his biological parents when he was four, and eventually got adopted to America when he was eight years old. He knows first hand the gift of adoption and how it can positively change someone's life. His family is very divers; growing up in a multi-national home; he has a brother and a sister from Korea, another sister from Mexico, a German mother, an American father and another brother- their biological son. Dad has been serving with the U.S. Army as an officer for 17 years now; and during this time he had the opportunity for several tours in support of children; building schools in Romania, doing Muppet shows to put smiles on faces and a seed of hope in kids in the war torn country of Bosnia, leading food drives in support of starving children in Macedonia and Bulgaria, providing safety to kids and those who can't defend themselves in Afghanistan and Iraq. He talks about it often and says that those tours are the most rewarding. When it comes to kids Dad will never say no to a mission even if he has to put his life on the line. He loves kids and is very good with them whether playing games (he is good in almost all sports) or teaching them about lessons in life. Having a very soft heart for kids, but also being tough as nails when he needs to be...............understanding that balance better than anyone. | 5

Dad met Mom while he was home from college on break, in winter 1991, where she was taking care of the neighbor's four kids as an Au pair. He was in love and knew right away that Cordula was his future dream wife, but Mom had different thoughts at first.(I think she said he was to young for her.) But they remained friends for over five years. After graduating college Stefan was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the U.S. Army and sent to Korea with a follow on assignment to Germany. That's were they met again, dated and got married in 1999. Mom stopped working as nurse, fully supporting Stefan in his military career for the last twelve years. | We don't have one specific place we call home; in fact in the Army there is a saying that goes : “Home is where the Army sends you.” We can be stationed anywhere in the world at any given time. Currently our home is in Den Haag (NL), but we have already lived in Germany, Virginia, Alaska, (Can you say cold paws!) Massachusetts,Kansas and Iowa. | 6

Life brings simple pleasures to us every day. It is up to us to make them wonderful memories. CathyAllen | Our Wedding 1999 | 7

Even so we see much of the United States and foreign countries, we stay grounded through our extended families. I really like the house we're living in right now. It has a very cozy fireplace and a big back yard, with a lot of bushes and trees to hide in. Faith and I like to sit and watch the birds and I don't mind to share the yard when her friends come over to play. Faith was born in Alaska 2001. She is a blessing and an amazing military child; my best friend, smart and honest, independent, responsible and adaptable, she loves to read and being creative with color and paper, she is very imaginative and especially well-liked by her friends. She loves animals, me the best of course, and wants to become a vet. Faith is multi-cultural, fluent in two languages and deals successfully with diversity every day. She has a broad horizon and a good understanding of the world around her, because of all the different people we meet. I do really believe Faith will be an amazing big sister. | We enjoy having Mom at home. So she is always available for a round of cards or a board game, witch I like the most, because we sit on the floor and I can "help", or engage in an art project, dance, read or talk; but also landing a helping hand in doing homework if necessary and make sure Faith does not forget her chores. | 8

Maybe I should describe a typical weekend for Faith and me. Saturdays we may go to the Gym or play softball, basketball, go swimming, -I usually sit that one out-, cuddle the cat, helping Stefan in the garden, cleaning her bathroom, practicing her harp, cuddle the cat, wrestling with Stefan with lots of hooting and hollering, cuddle the cat, help make dinner, “movie-night” with Mom and Dad, reading, cuddle the cat and bed with the cat. Sunday mornings I’m having the house mostly to myself because they all dress up and go to something they call church. Afterwards we have usually a fun afternoon like inviting friends and socialize, camp out and enjoying a campfire or have some quiet time for reading or enjoying my company or even veggie out and watch some football.. My family also does a lot of things where I rather stay at home and curl up, but they seem to enjoy it. Traveling and learning about other cultures and history, seeing grandparents, siblings and the family folks. Caring about the outdoors and going on an “adventure”, riding the bike, going for walks or working in the garden. Taking in a baseball game. If the season is colder they go to the theater or a concert. | 9

It would be a blessing to add to our family and we cannot wait to be a family of five. Our family and friends are thrilled about the adoption plans and are eager to meet a addition to our family, to fuss over. Mom and Dad always say their greatest hope is to raise their children in a happy and loving home where they have every opportunity to enjoy the good things in life. They promise you that they will allow your child space to explore its interests, learn about other cultures, see the world and grow into the individual it is destined to be. Everyone in the family will guide your child to become a caring, compassionate, adaptable, independent and respectful person, like my friend Faith. We will guard your child like a pride of lions, protect it from the wounds of loneliness but most of all, we will shower the child with all our love and affection. | 10

At night we will cuddle up, like we always do, call on the wind and maybe you'll hear us and know, your baby is safe. I hope I could paint a picture of our family for you. Please take a look at the pictures of my family in this portfolio, as they will tell you more than words. With a big purrrrrrrrr Sahiba | 11

Dear little sibling, My name is Faith and I am 12 years old. If you come to our family I am going to be your big sister and will show you everything I love to do, like swimming, climbing, playing my harp but also how you treat pets. We speak English and German, which I can teach you. In our family we do a lot of things together, and our cat, Sahiba , my best friend, likes to “help”. Dad shows me all he knows about sports like basketball, softball or soccer, he is always funny and I love to tickle him. With Mommy I play games, dance and we love to go to the library together and she is my biggest cheerleader. But some times my parents are annoying. I am not allowed to watch TV or play video games as long as I want to and afterwards I usually have to do something outside and always my homework and chores have to be done first. But all in all they are o.k. I love to visit my Grandparents in Germany and the US they do fun stuff with me all the times and I have one older and two younger cousins, they are fun to play with and it would be grate if you could join us. I would introduce you to everybody and show you all our favorite places. Sahiba and me are looking forward to getting to know you. You future big sister Faith | 39
