S: 'the 'Brothers Band' and their Wives
FC: the 'Brothers Band' and their Wives
This album... a tangible memory of our trip to San Clemente, California is dedicated to the best Brothers and Sisters a girl could ask for. It's a vacation taken by the 'Lewis Brothers' referred to as 'the Brother's Band' and their Wives. Included are: Bowen and Maurine Lewis of Kaysville, Leon and Warda Lewis of Rockville, Marvin and Pat Lewis, and Lambert and Marilyn Lewis all of Marion. Regrettably this was the first time we four couples had done something like this, making it even more special We left SLC September 24, 2010 and returned on October3. Understandably, when people used to doing things their own way for as long as we've been doing them, taking an extended trip like this was bound to have it's difficult moments. We did have a few, but being adults, having a genuine love for each other, and testimonies of what matters most, our difficult times came and went and happy memories remain.
Our long anticipated vacation together began in our 15 passenger van on the road to Rockville. That evening Marvin gave the 'womenfolk' foot massages, and the stories began. It felt so good to finally be all together. Early on the morning of Sept. 25 we hit the road for California! | Baby Cakes Bakery in the 'M' Hotel and Casino We splurged on a couple of apple pastries, and admired the rest. Beautiful. | HAPPY TOGETHER
Leon is pealing pomegranates and passing them around. | On the road again ... | ON THE ROAD
'Baby Cakes Bakery' in the 'M' Hotel and Casino. We splurged on a couple of apple pastries, and admired the rest. Almost too beautiful to eat. | Life is Good
We stopped in Rancho Cucamonga for a minute to see the Keslers. David, Liz and children were there as well! Happy Birthday Spencer! | I introduced everyone to Pink Berry Yogurt. It was a hit. | Then our route took us over the mountains to the coast and San Clemente. It scared Pat to death! Good thing she was in the back with me!
Marvin admitted he'd had too many back seat drivers as we drove around and around San Clemente searching for this address. But we let him park the van in the underground garage without too much help and he did a great job! (Ron commented on it when we saw him later that night.) Then we walked into this.....and were speechless and amazed by the generosity of the Lindorf family.
What a beautiful place to call home for a week!
We found ourselves amazed by the luxury. We often commented on Ron's generosity.
Talk Laugh Story Challenge Talk Share
Playing games with Bowen is a risky venture. He is a genius at creating games. He's been doing it all his life. That was OK until we tried playing 'Crazy Rook' with him and discovered he makes up the rules as the game progresses! A nightmare to follow, but fun --- Lambert won.
The Brother who look our pictures and his wife. | Still 'learning' how to maneuver from the far back seat to the pavement. | On Sunday we attended the San Clemente First Ward. Some of the best lessons we've ever heard. Warm and friendly people. Of course when we introduced ourselves we caused a stir. Not often they get visitors that meet our description. Quite fun to keep introducing ourselves as 'Lewis's.
Early Monday morning the plan was to head to the grocery store. Ron had told us about a couple, so most of us headed out. . Well----months earlier in the planning stages for this trip we all acknowledged given how long we've been set in our ways we were bound to hit some snags now and then. | We had such an incident for a moment while shopping for groceries. But thankfully everyone realized what was a stake if 'stubbornness' were allowed to dictate, so compromise was reached and peace reigned.
Lambert, Bowen and Maurine braved the rocks and waves.
Arenoso Avenue and the entrance to Vista Pacifica Villas building.
Marvin and Pat scheduled a showing of the advertised condo.
One afternoon Warda's sister Arthella and husband Garry, visited. | HAPPY BIRTHDAY PAT!
Our first attempts failed at getting the media system to work. Even Ron admitted he needed his 10 year son to help him, so basically we were on our own. We did our best, but no success. Finally in desperation we called upon Beth (Ron's daughter in the condo above us) for aid. Bless her--she came. finally we were able to watch most of the movies we'd hauled down there. But---the first night the 'brothers' were gathered in one side of the living room and the wives were watching a movie on the other side. We had to have the sound up loud enough to hear the movie, but that was too loud for the men to hear each other. The scene was set for a showdown, but no need---we made it through the movie and after that the brothers watched movies with us or elected to take their conversations elsewhere. | 'Sense and Sensibility', just one of many.
Views we never tired of | Views that never grew old or boring.
 Life is Wonderful

Wednesday --San Diego Thursday -- Bowen and Maurine had to go back to Utah. Friday -- A day at the condo, more shopping and to the beach. Saturday -- back to Rockville. 24: The magic of an ocean sunset...
 Studying the waves...
Marivn and Pat took this room with the surf boards.
WE ARE AT THE BEACH! Leon and Warda took the room to the left with the bunk beds. Warda rated it the best in the house. Bowen and Maurine were in the queen room below and to the right. | d
 The Master Suite - Wow!
Lambert and I happily stayed in this beautiful master suite. While so luxurious, the best part was to throw open all the windows and both sets of French doors and listen all night long to the pounding surf -- Simply spoiled!
We soaked in the views of the ocean from our surround balcony.
'I must go down to the seas again, for the call of the running tide...
Newport Beach Temple | We arrived with time to spare so we walked around and enjoyed the beauty of the grounds. Like all temples, it's a sacred place. Maurine had some family names for us to take through an endowment session, making it even more meaningful.
It's impossible to get a poor picture of this temple. Gorgeous!
 San Diego Temple | Entrance
Ball caps-- a clue we didn't go inside. We wished ...
Aircraft carrier Midway | Cruise Boat
Aircraft Carrier 'Ronald Regan' in for maintenance.
Someone said couples will receive good fortune if they kiss while passing under the bridge. Lambert grabbed me and planted a big one!
San Diego Harbor Cruise | f
Our country may have problems ----but here we felt only pride and gratitude. | USS New York - Built with steel from the Trade Centers.
End of Cruise - Very glad we did it. ! | Tug boats safely bring the tanker into the harbor.
We became frequent visitors to Costco. We searched out one whenever we needed gas. And find them we did. After leaving the harbor cruise we needed to find a Costco because we'd had a little mishap with a blind at the condo and Leon wanted to fix it. To do this he needed tape. While he shopped we enjoyed polish dogs and the enormous dipped ice cream bars! | Of course the repair job worked!
 Brothers and forever Friends
The 'Brothers Band' has long had a reputation for being 'crazy'. These photos illustrate that perfectly. A careful examination of them shows Marvin and Lambert playing a trick on Leon. When they decided to leave the beach, the younger brothers went on ahead and 'hid' from Leon behind the cement wall where the walkway passed under the railroad. Crazy stuff and fun! | Leon found the toy tractor in a dumpster. Never one to pass up a good deal he debated for a second before retrieving it. It went home with him to Rockville.
 Behind a cresting wave...
As evening approaches, a stroll on the pier. | Behind a breaking wave
Beautiful pictures, warm memories, friendships strengthened, and love expressed...
