S: Lance and Sascha Adoption Portfolio

BC: Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I have become sounding brass or a clanging cymbal. And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and though I give my body to be burned, but have not love, it profits me nothing. Love suffers long and is kind; love does not envy; love does not parade itself, is not puffed up; does not behave rudely, does not seek its own, is not provoked, thinks no evil; does not rejoice in iniquity, but rejoices in the truth; bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. Love never fails. 1 Corinthians 13:1-8a

FC: Lance and Sascha | Adoption Portfolio

Dear Expectant Parent, Our names are Lance and Sascha, and we are hoping to adopt one of God's precious gifts. We know that you know how precious and special your baby is, too. We appreciate so much your courage in carrying and caring for your baby, and we are especially grateful that you would consider our profile. We want you to know that we will do everything we can to raise your child with love: love for them, love for others, and most importantly, love for God. We'd like to tell you a little about ourselves, so that you might know us a little better. We have been married for nine years. We are best friends who fell in love. That friendship and love have carried over into marriage, and continue to grow. The years have been wonderful, though not without challenges. We mention challenges to let you know that we have dealt with hardships and come through hopefully wiser and stronger from the experience. We have suffered the loss of close family members and have been the primary care givers for one of our grandparents, a WWII veteran. Our faith, friends, and family helped us through those times. We know that more trials will come -- life is full of them -- and we are confident that with God's help we can deal with each and every one. These roles have given us a lot of patience. We are both very involved with church. Both of us have taught Bible classes, and Lance now preaches for a local congregation of saints near Atlanta. We are committed to a lasting marriage filled with love. With such a strong marriage base, we are now ready to start our family. It is such a wonderful feeling to wake up next to your best friend every day. When we adopt, it will be the beginning of our journey as parents. This decision is one that we have looked forward to and discussed since before we were married. We can't wait to hold that little child in our arms. We pray that he or she is the first of many. We have a variety of interests. Lance is a huge sports fan (football, track, basketball, volleyball, etc.). He watches every Titans football game during the NFL season, helped coach a local track team in hurdles before we moved to Georgia, gets frequent volleyball games together, and organizes paintball games during the winter. While Sascha watches and plays some of those with Lance, she prefers photography and sewing and embroidering any and everything. We are both creative people and, truth be told, a little nerdy. Lance enjoys writing short stories and has taken some Master's level classes in creative writing. We love getting RockBand nights together (Sascha can rock some Queen, and Lance dominates Red Hot Chili Peppers. Just sayin'.). We play World of Warcraft together, and we love to create costumes together. Sascha sews the costumes, and Lance helps with design and creates most of the props. Our costumes range from Star Wars inspiration, to video game inspiration, novels, and more. We love working together to create something that will bring a smile to someone's face. We're nerds, but hopefully we're well-rounded nerds. Lance worked at a small-town bank before we moved in June of 2011, and he began preaching. Sascha taught at a rural high school for five years before we moved. She now plans to stay at home with our children and continue selling craft items on an Etsy store. We have five animals: a sweet great dane named Mina, a 25 lb cat named Mira, two non-yappy chihuahuas named Lilly and Flint, and a recent addition in our precious and clingy rescued kitten named Eleanor. We are excited about our new house in Georgia. We have a room for Sascha's sewing area, Lance's man cave, a future nursery, a guest room, and an office! There's a great backyard and patio, and we can already envision a swing set. We're flattered that you are even reading this letter. We hope that we gave you a glimpse into our lives. We can't wait to start our family. In Christian Love, Lance and Sascha | Like arrows in the hand of a warrior, so are the children of one's youth. Happy is the man who has his quiver full of them... Psalm 127:4-5a

Lance grew up as an only child, while Sascha was the middle of three children. We grew up in the same small community, but didn't become friends until Sascha was in high school and Lance was in college. | Lance | Sascha

Peacekeeper | Sascha was always known as the peacekeeper in her family. She is still very close with everyone. Before we moved to Georgia a few months ago, we still had dinner weekly with Sascha's parents and once a month with her grandparents. We hated to leave them a few hours away, but they have already visited our new Georgia home and will continue to be a presence in our lives and the lives of our future children.

Encourager | Lance was always the pride and joy of his parents. He was very close to his father, who unexpectedly passed away in 2002. After his death, we took care of Lance's grandfather, a WWII veteran. We are still very close to Lance's mother and had dinner with her weekly before our big move. She has visited our new home as well, and it probably won't be long before she begins looking for a home up here.

We were married in 2002! It was a wonderful wedding, but tinged with sadness at the loss of Lance's dad. We have grown to love each other even more over the past nine years. We can't imagine life without the other. As you can see, Lance didn't leave Sascha a choice in the marriage decision! We've been through a lot and feel that our trials will help us in the future. | Wedding

Now abideth faith, hope, love, these three; but the greatest of these is love. ~I Corinthians 13:13

It is an incredible feeling to wake up next to your best friend every day. We wanted to make sure that our marriage would have a strong foundation before we started a family. We discussed adoption before we were even married. In January of 2010, we just knew that it was time to start the adoption process. We are ecstatic about growing our family. We are also thrilled that our new church family is very diverse and "color-blind"! We have always dreamed of that for our family. | Love

We currently have five "children'". These include two chihuahuas (Lilly and Flint), a huge cat (Mira), a great dane (Mina), and a stray kitten (Eleanor) that we just recently rescued. They are adorable and very sweet.

Our chihuahuas actually don't yap, our dane loves to give kisses, our big cat loves water, and our new addition Eleanor is constantly searching for a spot on our laps.

Though Sascha played softball until she was 17, sports are a stronger interest for Lance. He loves playing football, volleyball, and basketball. He even helped coach a local track team in hurdles, his high school forte. Sometimes he manages to persuade Sascha to play paintball with him. For that to happen, it must be cold, and she must wear many layers of clothes.

And Lance is a HUGE Tennessee Titans and Auburn Tigers fan. He tries to squeeze in seeing a game every few years. Since we live hours away from Tennessee, he sometimes feels out of place, but Sascha tries to accommodate his football passion. | Sports Fanatic

Sascha loves to sew and make costumes. We usually compete in a couple of costume contests every year. She finds it soothing to have this creative outlet. Costumes range in inspiration from Star Wars, to comic books, to cartoons, to novels, to numerous video games. While some are meant to be serious, the best part of costumes is making someone laugh! | Creative Outlet

We've won a few awards for our costumes in Orlando and Atlanta. We're proud of the fact that we're big nerds. We even made it to starwars.com a couple of years ago for our AT-AT costume! Of course, Sascha also sews regular clothes, embroiders blankets, and makes stuffed animals. She loves to try to sew just about anything.

We love the beach! We always looked forward to camping and visiting the beaches around us in Florida and are in the process of locating some great camp and bike sites near our new home. | Pastimes

Sascha also enjoys photography, numerous crafts, layout design, and getting pedicures! Colorful toes make her happy! She taught high school English for five years before we moved. She plans to stay at home with our children to give them a strong nurturing environment.

We love playing board games, computer games, and video games. Those are all activities that we can do together. We are both big readers as well. RockBand nights come often. We download most of the new songs that are available. We also play World of Warcraft and many other games. Geocaching together and with friends is always a big hit. Volleyball at our house is also very common, as are gatherings for college and pro football games. | Just for fun

Our sister and brother-in-law recently had our first nephew when they lived in Cape Cod, MA! We took the opportunity to compare him to the size of a lobster. He was bigger! Liam is certainly a wonderful addition to our extended family and just recently celebrated his second birthday and has a new baby sister named Ansley! We love spoiling them and are known as Aunt Shasha and Uncle Ants.

There is a lot in life that is very serious, but we try to find the upside as much as possible. We love to laugh and to bring joy and happiness to others. We may be a little nerdy, but we're also well-rounded, friendly people with a lot of love to give.
