2: Vivian Mary Gleason born June 20, 1929 at White Earth, MN to Frank & Pauline Gleason

3: Vivian attended the Antell School in Lengby. As a first grader, Vivian would ride with her Dad on horses every Monday morning to school. She would spend the week with her Grandpa Oppegard who lived close to the school. On Friday, her Uncle Oscar would bring her home. | Vivian graduated from Nursing School in Minneapolis | Antell School House in Lengby | Vivian worked in Minneapolis at Franklin Hospital and as a private nurse for a few years before returning to Lengby to help take care of her Dad and Grandfather. She later moved to Crookston with her sister Hazel and worked at the Wayne Cafe and St. Francis Hospital | Later on in high school, Vivian rode the bus to Mahnomen High School where she graduated in 1949.

4: Pauline Oppegard was born near Lengby, Minnesota, one of ten children. She attended the Antell School. She married Frank Gleason on April 21, 1929 at Lengby, MN where they also made their home and raised their five children. | Pauline, Mary & Louis Roy, Martin Oppegard. (Pauline's Father)

5: Pauline Olive Gleason (Vivian's Mother) Born June 20, 1908 Died November 3, 1990 daughter of Martin & Sarah Mitchell Oppegard | Pictured Right: Audrey Antel, Frank Gleason holding Vivian, Pauline Gleason, Louie Roy, Mary Roy (kneeling and holding baby), Steve Gleason, Florence Oppegard and the Antel Family | Pauline holding Patricia Gleason and Vivian standing | Pauline loved people, they were important to her. She was always opening her house to others and caring, cooking and giving to all.

6: Frank Bernard Gleason (Vivian's Father) Born August 6, 1890 Died June 5, 1960 son of John & Margaret Kelly Gleason | Frank was born near Northfield, MN, one of fourteen children. He attended school there and came to Mahnomen County around 1920 where he resided in Island Lake township. He served in the Army during World War I from September 19, 1917 to August 13, 1919. He raised cows, sheep, pigs and horses as well as hay and grain. He enjoyed playing horseshoes with his brothers and friends. | Frank and brother Steve

12: Orland Leonard Hanson was born on July 1, 1921 in Fisher, Minnesota to George & Mabel Hanson | Orlie started rural school in Fisher, MN and continued through 8th grade at Fairfax Township District 123 Country School. He went on to attend the Northwest School of Agriculture in Crookston, MN. Around 1941, when Orlie was about 20, he spent one winter working at the flour mill in Minneapolis. He came back to Crookston and worked two years for local farmers. until he joined the US Army. | Orlie working at Standard Oil Company in Crookston

14: Orlie served in the US Army from March 24, 1945 to December 1, 1946. He attended basic training at Camp Fannin in Tyler Texas and then went to Fort Lewis in Washington to learn how to build barracks and bridges before shipping overseas to Manila in the Phillipine Islands.

15: World War II ended while Orlie was on the ship to Manila but there was still much work to be done. Orlie served in the 4025 Signal Corp. as a T4 Sergeant

16: Mabel A. Hanson (Orland's Mother) Born May 1, 1895 Died May 10, 1988 daughter of Ole K. & Kari Skatrud Strande | Mabel Strande was born on her parents farm near Fisher, MN. Upon graduation from Fisher High School and the Northwest School in Crookston, she taught school in the Twin Valley, MN area. She married George Hanson on December 9, 1915.

17: In 1958, Mabel moved to this home at 719 N Front in Crookston, MN

18: George with his sisters Ida, Alma & Annie. He also had a brother Henry and one sister Karen who died as an infant | George Hanson was born in Faith, MN. His father died when George was seven years old. His family ran the grocery store and his uncles built and owned the flour mill next door where George also worked. After marrying Mabel Strande, he moved his family to Fisher, MN where he farmed wheat, barley and oats and eventually sugar beets. He also raised championship hogs. In 1931, the family moved to the farm in Crookston. George loved to play cards and enjoyed socializing with others.

19: George A. Hanson (Orland's Father) Born April 27, 1890 Died December 29, 1949 son of Andreas & Olina Aamoth Hanson | Home where George grew up in Faith, MN | Arnold Gredvig and George Hanson Fertile Fair 1942 | Picture Below: George loved horses and had a gift for training them.

24: Vivian Mary Gleason & Orland Leonard Hanson were married on April 15, 1953 at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception Crookston, Minnesota

25: The Wedding Reception was held at the Irishman's Shanty in Crookston, MN | Hazel Gleason Weber was the Maid of Honor and Irvin Newhouse was the Best Man Orland & Vivian honeymooned in Duluth, MN

26: 25th Anniversary April 15, 1978 | The Wedding Party Hazel Gleason Weber Vivian & Orland Irvin Newhouse

27: 50th Anniversary April 15, 2003 Celebrated at the Irishman's Shanty... the same location that the wedding reception was held in 1953.

28: Orland Hanson Farm Picture taken in 1976 Orlie and Vivian bought this property from Everett Blokzyl and moved here in 1956. At that time, there was a house, a red barn, pump house, chicken shed, and a couple other small sheds. They purchased the farm and surrounding 160 acres for a price of $150/acre. Orlie and Vivian moved to a house in town when Orlie retired in 1988. Their oldest son Bruce and his family live on the farm today.

30: Orlie started farming around 1947. He farmed with his father until his death in 1949. After that, Orlie farmed with his brothers George and Gil until about 1960 when he started farming on his own. Over the years, Orlie farmed barley, grain, wheat, sugar beets and soy beans. At the time of his retirement in 1988, Orlie was farming about 2,500 acres of land. Today the farm is run by Orlie's sons, Bruce & Corky.

32: Some of Orlie & Vivian's greatest memories are the times that were spent at Leech Lake. Around 1991, they bought this park trailer home located at Cosette's Cove (now Anderson's Cove) 8 miles north of Walker on Hwy 371 on the North Steamboat Bay Loop.

33: After Orlie retired, he bought a 1963 Corvair Convertible and restored it. They have enjoyed many rides in this car.

34: After Vivian and Orlie married, Vivian enjoyed taking care of her growing family, cooking, making and taking out many, many meals to the men working in the fields and gardening. She enjoys time spent with her Birthday Club, coffee dates with her friends, her St. Francis of Assisi Circle Group and activities with her Red Hat ladies. When she does relax, she enjoys crocheting, word searches, solitaire and e-mailing with family and friends. Vivian has a strong Catholic faith and you can always count on her prayers and love.

36: Orlie loves Farming, Family, Friends, Fishing and having Fun! Orlie spent long days working on the farm before his retirement. He may have retired in 1988 but farming will always be a big part of his life. It is still hard today to keep Orlie away from a tractor for long. When you can get him away from the farm, he enjoys fishing, playing cards, coffee with friends and spending time with other people, especially his family. People are important to Orlie and he truly loves and cares about the people in his life.
