1: Anita Ives was born February 26, 1922 to True and Clara Ives.

5: Anita's first six years were at the Birkbeck schoolhouse, where they walked to school most days. When the kids were older, Karl drove the cart and their pony, Fairy, to school.

7: Anita graduated from Wapella High School, one of the proud 15 members of the Class of 1939.
8: About 5 days after her high school graduation, Anita enrolled in Brown's Business College in Decatur, IL | Anita started a job with the DeWitt County Farm Bureau.
9: She joined an organization of about 350 people called Country Youth. While attending one of the Country Youth socials, she met Virgil Gibson. Once they started dating each other, neither of them dated anyone else.

12: Virgil and Anita Gibson were married on September 12, 1941 in a ceremony in her aunt's home in Clinton.
14: Six months after they were married, Virgil and Anita went on their first vacation, with Billy and Faye Blue.
15: In January, 1943, Uncle Sam called Virgil's name and he left for the Army. Anita joined Virgil over the summer while he was serving in Cape Cod before he went overseas.
16: Virgil and Anita welcomed their first daughter, Jane Ann Gibson, on October 10, 1946.
17: Their second daughter, Candi Jo Gibson, was born on March 20, 1950.
18: In 1948, Virgil and Anita had moved to Wapella and opened a small hardware store called Gibson Hardware and Appliance. | One year later, with a need for more space, they expanded into a new building. The business was re-named Gibson Building and Supply.
19: In 1957, they joined Ace Hardware Corporation. They were store number 85 and today the stores number over 5,000.

21: Of course, the pinochle club kids became life-long friends as well.
22: Several families helped convert an old building on Billy Blue's land into a cabin. Many family memories were made at "The Cabin."
24: Virgil and Anita were always involved in community work. The whole family participated in Wapella's Centennial celebration.

26: Wapella Christian Church | The entire family was very involved in the Wapella Christian Church. Anita enjoyed Ladies In Christ & helped Virgil while he served as the treasurer.

28: Jane Ann Gibson married William Howe Nichols June 22, 1968.
29: Candi Jo Gibson married John Lee Heap June 13, 1970.
30: In 1960, Gibson's Ace Hardware moved from Wapella to Clinton

32: Virgil & Anita's first granddaughter, Amy Jo Nichols, was born on December 12, 1971.
33: They welcomed their second granddaughter, Julia Ann Heap, on January 17, 1974.
34: Virgil & Anita's third granddaughter, Paula Jo Heap, was born on September 28, 1977.
35: The family was very blessed to have so many wonderful memories with Anita's parents, True and Clara Ives.
36: Virgil & Anita took the entire family to Hawaii for the National Hardware Convention. It was a trip that will never be forgotten by the family.

38: Virgil & Anita bought a Condo in Bonita Springs, Florida and spent many wonderful winter months there. They have made life-long friendships with many other couples in the area. They both enjoyed the parties, while Anita enjoyed the pool & Virgil the shuffleboard.
39: Candi was fortunate to spend a week with her parents each winter and enjoyed getting to know their friends in Florida.
40: Even in their adult years Anita remained very close to her sister, Harriet Jane, who lived in California & her brother, Karl, and his wife Phyllis, who also lived in Clinton. They shared many good memories together.
43: GARDEN, STEMMING BERRIES, CHRISTMAS BREAKFASTS? | Virgil & Anita always enjoyed doing things for others. They served a Christmas breakfast for many years, as well as entertaining many others for dinner in their home. Virgil enjoyed gardening, while Anita spent her time washing, stemming, and preparing the garden foods. Much of this food they freely shared with family, friends & neighbors to enjoy.
44: For Virgil & Anita's golden wedding anniversary, they took the entire family on a cruise. We share so many wonderful memories from that trip.
45: The Ace Gang also planned a party at the store to help them celebrate their special day.
46: Virgil & Anita always made it a priority to attend special events for their 3 granddaughters. They sat through many dance recitals, plays, church activities, games to watch cheerleaders, & graduations. The girls always greatly appreciated having them there!
48: Virgil & Anita celebrate 60 wonderful years together!
49: Virgil & Anita celebrated their 60th anniversary with a party with many close friends & family. There was dinner, a special presentation for the couple, and a lot of dancing!
50: Amy Jo Nichols married Scott Anthony Ruter October 18, 1997.
51: Paula Jo Heap married Bradley Wayne Barton June 21, 2003.
52: Virgil & Anita's first great-granddaughter, Payton Jo Ruter, was born on January 3, 2005. | Payton was born premature, weighing only 2 lbs. 9 oz. After a long hospitalization she came home as a very healthy, but tiny, baby.
53: Their second great-granddaughter, Kylie Jo Barton, was born on December 29, 2005 Kylie was also born premature, weighing only 1 lb. 12 oz. The families prayers were answered when Kylie went home healthy after 3 months in the NICU.
54: Virgil & Anita's third great- granddaughter, Addison Ann Ruter, was born on October 14, 2007. Addison was also born premature, weighing 3 lbs. 9 oz. Everyone was thrilled when she was able to join her family at home and was healthy.
55: Virgil Passed away on July 10, 2009, one week before his 91st birthday. He and Anita had celebrated 67 happy years of marriage.
56: A third great-granddaughter, Mya Sorice Barton, was born on April 1, 2010. Brad & Paula were thrilled that God chose them to be Mya's parents & adopt her. Mya was a healthy little baby and left the hospital with Brad & Paula.
57: Julia Ann Heap married David Ryan Carter on May 22, 2010.
58: Finally a great-grandson! David Joseph Carter was born on November 5, 2011. The family was overjoyed to have a baby boy after three generations of girls in the family.

60: Over the years, Anita has always enjoyed the time the family spends together.
62: For 90 years you have been an inspiration to so many of someone who follows Christ, loves people, prays continuously and acts generously. Your family loves you so much!
