1: Jorge came from an island called Cuba. Cuba is a communist island. | Communism: no private ownership and the government controls everything you do. | It is 90 miles South from Florida, US
2: He grew up in the 1950s, when Cuba was communist. Cuba did not gain independence until the late 20th century. Jorge left for Venezuela when he was thirteen, with his mother and father.
3: Fidel Castro | He was the leader, turned Cuba into a communist island.
4: The government knew where every family went and what they did. The school enforced ideas in students' heads.
5: Students were told that Communism was GOOD. | And were told that the United States was BAD.
6: Jorge was sad to go, but knew it was for the best. He saw that he thought differently then American teenage boys.
7: He appreciated all his parents did for him. His life was hard, he was busy with school and work, but he is grateful to be living in America.
8: Both Jorge and I have two different groups of friends whom we like to do different activities with. | Similarity
9: He is religious, has a job, works harder, and gets good grades but lower then mine. | Differences

13: He still attended church even though it is not allowed in Cuba, it shows a lot about his character and how he stands up for what he believes in
