1: Happy Birthday Sugar Pea! I love you! I can’t seem to say it enough as I hold you in my arms and as I watch you grow into a little princess. It’s hard to express how deeply I love you, and how much I want to see you grow, learn, and succeed in everything you do! It is my honor to be your daddy, and there is nothing that will ever change that! During this past year, there are many things I have noticed as you transitioned from being a baby to a little lady. I am so proud of you for how polite you are, almost always saying “Thank You” and “You’re Welcome.” You have become quite the imaginary cook, as you bring pretend food and drink to Mommy, your dolls, and me. You are becoming more and more expressive in your emotions and feelings, puckering your lips and making funny faces when you are thinking about things you are trying to say. I love to see you love and care for your stuffed animals and dolls like a loving little mommy (you have a wonderful and loving mother to learn from.) I’m excited to see you grow, and to see how God has uniquely made you. I look forward to discovering more of your personality and character during the next year of your life. I enjoy spending time with you. I especially like it when we will play dominoes, “Dora Uno”, or “Uno Moo.” You are very good at those games, and you win more than I do! I especially like reading books with you, singing songs about Jesus, and praying with you at bedtime. I love watching your love for Jesus grow...my prayer is that it never stops growing. It makes me proud to see you sharing your toys with other children, being respectful and polite of grownups, and being a well behaved little girl. As I have told you in the past, this makes mommy and daddy happy, and it makes Jesus happy too! | I cherish the sweet, quiet times we have together as a little girl and her daddy. When I hold you and you touch my face, or pat my arm, I am reminded of what a wonderful gift from God you are to your mommy and I. You are a sweet, loving, and precious child. It is my deepest hope that your mommy and I can help guide you through childhood in such a way that will prepare you for anything God has for your life. It is my constant hope and prayer that God will give you a long and fulfilling life of serving and following Jesus, and that you will accomplish great things for God’s glory. I know that God has great plans for your life... “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future” (Jeremiah 29:11 NIV). It is those plans that I pray you will discover, and fulfill, in God’s perfect timing. You have a great purpose while you are on this earth, to serve Jesus with joy and enthusiasm. I look forward to helping you every step of the way. I can’t wait to see what God has in store for you and our family. Love, Daddy P.S. Whenever your birthday comes, I’m always afraid I won’t know what to write when I sit down to type this letter. But I just realized that this is the easiest thing I have written since your last letter :-)
19: Happy 3rd Birthday Kaitlyn !
20: Happy Birthday Polka-not! I can't believe you are actually 3! You're my big girl! You've learned and experienced so much in this past year. A month after you turned two, you could read at least 68 words. Soon after that you knew what each of the letters were and you could say the alphabet. You knew your numbers and could say them to 13 when you were around twenty-six months old. Now you can read at least 150 words, some of those are included in word phrases. You began writing some of your letters at around 2 years old and you are learning how to write more of them all the time. You can also count to at least 25 and you recognize those numbers as well. All that to say, you are such a smart little girl! Your Daddy and I took you to fly a kite for the first time when you were just over twenty-five months old. You had such a great time running around chasing the kite, and you got to help Daddy keep it up in the air! It was very windy that day and your blonde curls were flying all over! At 2 years old, you were fully potty trained! It was such a huge accomplishment and we were so proud of you for being such a big girl and wearing big girl panties all the time. No more diapers was a huge excitement around our house! We have been getting you up at night a couple hours after you go to bed to go potty. That seems to help you sleep longer during the night and keeps your big girl bed dry. You were such a brave girl and went up in a hot air balloon with Mommy for a tethered ride at the annual Balloon Fest in Harrison on 9/9/11. We waited in line for a long time and you thankfully didn't back out on me at the last minute. It was so fun to experience that with you. You kept asking if it was time to get down, but you never cried or fussed. I was so very proud of you! | This past fall, you went to the dentist for the first time, got your first hair trim, and started spitting your toothpaste out in the sink. You only had two teeth come in last year—your lower second molars. We are still waiting on your top second molars. At about thirty-five months old, you began pedaling your tricycle and then your bicycle that has training wheels. It was so fun to watch you! I painted your toenails for the first time right before we got your 3-year pictures taken. You were a little hesitant at first, but then you couldn't stop talking about your pink toes! At your 3-year well-child visit, you weighed 33 lbs and were 39.5 inches tall (75% in weight and 95% in height). You are growing up so fast! I am so very thankful that I get to spend each day with you, watching you learn and discover new things and grow into such a beautiful young lady. My time with you is priceless, and I wouldn't trade it for anything. I love hearing you pray such simple prayers that mean so much. You have such a sweet heart and you have so much love to give. I get up with you each morning and I hold you as you drink some milk. Then a lot of times you fall back to sleep in my arms. Later in the day, at nap time, I get to read a book with you, pray with you, sing with you, and then rock you in my arms for just a little while. It is such precious time to me. I especially love holding and cuddling with you after you wake up from your nap. Sometimes you even go back to sleep while I am holding you in my arms. I just love that time together! There is so much more I could say in this letter, but I’m running out of room to write it. Please always know that I love you so much more than you can imagine. You are God's special blessing to your Daddy and I, and we are so thankful for you. I’m so excited to spend this next year with you and watch you grow and learn more every day! I love you Cutie Pie! Your Mommy
