6: Diane's "refrigerator cake." 8.5 ounces unsalted butter (2 sticks plus 1 tablespoon) 7 ounces bittersweet chocolate (50% cocoa or higher), chopped 5 large eggs, separated 1 cup sugar 0.5 cup all purpose flour pinch of salt 1. Place rack in top third of open and preheat to 400 degrees Butter a 9 inch pringform pan and set aside. In a double boiler or microwave, melt together butter and chocolate. Stir to blend 2. In a medium bowl, stir together egg yolks and sugar. Stir in flour. Add chocolate mixture and stir until smooth. Using an electric mixer, whisk egg whites and salt until stiff, but not dry. fold whites into chocolate mixture just until blended. Pour into cake pan. 3. Bake for 25 minutes. Remove cake from oven and allow to cool for 1 hour. Wrap in foil and refrigerate until cake is firm and cold, at least 2 hours. Two hours before serving, remove cake from refrigerator and bring to room temperature. Slice (center of cake will be fudgy), and serve. | 6

7: Grammy's 1-2-3-4 Cake 1 cup butter 2 cups sugar 3 cups cake flour 4 large eggs 1 cup milk 1 tbsp baking powder 11/2 tsps vanilla extract tsp. salt Preheat oven to 350F. Grease and flour 9 inch fluted tube pan In large bowl, with mixer at low speed, beat sugar and butter just until blended. Increase speed to high; beat until light and fluffy about 10 minutes. Reduce speed to low; add flour and remaining ingredients. Beat until well mixed, constantly scraping bowl with rubber spatula. Increase speed to high; beat 2 minutes, occasionally scraping blow. Spoon batter into pan. Bake 50 to 55 minutes until toothpick inserted in center of cake comes out clean. Cool cake in pan on wire rack 10 minutes; remove from pan; cool completely on rack. Sprinkle top of cake lightly with confectioners’ sugar to serve. Side note: This is Grammy’s recipe taught to me as a very young girl. I remember her making this for Sunday dessert in our home on Cypress Ave. | 7

33: Grandpa Bob's Best Ribs sauce: 1 cup ketchup 1 cup sugar 1/2 cup dark corn syrup 2 teaspoons sugar 1/2 teaspoon salt 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder 1/4 teaspoon onion powder 1/4 teaspoon Tabasco pepper sauce Combine all ingredients and heat over high heat until boiling. Reduce heat and simmer for 30 minutes to 40 minutes until thick. Coat 4# of baby back pork ribs, front and back, with the sauce. Wrap ribs in aluminum foil. Bake at 300 degrees 2 1/2 hours. Remove ribs from foil and smother with more sauce. Check ribs to see that rib bones are peeking thru and meat in almost falling off the bones. If not, back into the oven for another 20 minutes. Now I also realize your father is ultra conservative, old fashioned and very set in his ways, so he may insist ribs are only good if prepared on a grill ( his way ). OK, if you have to compromise let him put your finished product on the grill, 5 minutes each side. This will give the appearance of grilled ribs and may satisfy him. Remember, to change opinion, compromise is essential. | 33

42: Cranberries a la Mark God’s Perfect Thanksgiving Gift Ingredients: Sugar 1 cup Orange juice – pulpless 1 cup Whole Cranberries16 oz Grand Marnier cup Cranberry Expert (Mark) 1 Directions: Place berries in large bowl next to sink Bounce berries, one at a time, off counter into plastic colander Discard any that fail to leap briskly Rinse cranberries under cold running water In medium saucepan, combine sugar and orange juice and bring to a boil Add Cranberries and Grand Marnier Return to boil, then reduce heat and simmer until berries have popped open (10 minutes) Perform visual inspection and remove any “old maids” Pour into glass bowl and refrigerate for at least 24 hours before serving Listen attentively to various cranberry facts and figures Your Thanksgiving dinner is now complete! | 42

48: Matt’s Hot & Spicy 4 breasts (boneless and skinless) Garlic -4 cloves, minced Lowry’s Baja Chipotle Dressing 1 shallot, minced Bacon Juice from 1/2 of a Lemon Butter, as needed Chicken Stock 2 cans of tomatoes (preferrably fire roasted) Red pepper flakes 1lb pasta Basil Fresh Mozzarella Parmasean | 48

49: Marinate chicken in Lowry’s Baja Chipotle dressing Cook 1/2 lb; Reserve fat from cooking In same pan, combine garlic, shallots, and butter (if desired) until desired tenderness Add tomatoes and 1 cup of chicken stock, let simmer for 5 minutes Add lemon juice, red pepper flakes, and basil for desired flavor The sauce should cook for 20 minutes. The flavor will continue to develop while cooking. Be sure to check frequently and add chicken stock or other flavoring as needed While sauce is cooking, cook marinated chicken on the grill. The chicken and sauce should be finished at the same time. Don’t forget to cook the pasta! To serve: Cut chicken into long strips and serve over pasta with sauce. Top with cubes of fresh mozzarella and Parmesan cheese. Yum, yum! | 49

80: debbie’s italian red sauce 3-4 cloves of garlic cut up olive oil fresh basil fresh parsley salt pepper 2 cans of whole tomato 2 cans of tomato sauce ( I prefer Contadina tomato sauce) cover bottom of pot with olive oil add garlic and let it get lightly browned drain the whole tomato and add to the pot mash the tomato so it breaks it to small pieces let cook with the garlic for a few minutes add tomato sauce...basil...parsley ( generous amount)....salt...pepper (you can use some hot pepper flakes if you desire) let simmer for about 1 hour. stir sauce occasionally if you want to make a meat sauce brown the meat (sausage, bracciole, pork ribs) in the pot with the olive oil. remove the meat and follow the above directions. add the meat back to the pot and simmer for about 2 hours. | 80

81: Kathy's Ziti in a Bowl Ingredients: 1 box 16oz. box Ronzoni #86 Pasta 1 16oz jar Ragu Traditional Pasta Sauce 4 cereal bowls Bring 6 quarts of salted water to a full rolling boil. Add pasta to boiling water; cook until tender Drain pasta using colander Rinse pasta with lukewarm water Add Ragu sauce to same pot used to cook pasta. Heat Ragu until hot. Add pasta to pot to mix with hot Ragu sauce. Spoon into cereal bowls and serve. | 81

86: Mark's Summertime Afternoon Drink Tanqueray & Tonic Ingredients: Tanqueray Gin Seagram’s Diet Tonic Water Fresh Lime Drink straw Tall-narrow glass Adirondack Chairs Directions: Fill tall glass with ice Add 2 “glugs” of Tanqueray Gin (2 oz) Fill glass with Seagram’s Diet Tonic Water (5 oz) Squeeze 2 lime wedges onto top, then slowly mix Add straw Serve to My Marie who is waiting on Adirondack chair! Repeat Repeat | 86

87: bob's cocktail The Cape Cod 11/2 oz vokda 4 oz cranberry add ingredients to cocktail shaker with ice shake vigorously pour into a martini glass and serve with a wedge of lime think of debbie and bob while drinking | 87
