FC: Josh and Meg... Our Story
Dear Parent, Thank you so much for taking the time to read our story...We hope you are able to feel like you know us a little bit better by the end of it. ~Josh, Meg, and Eli
Our story begins in 2006 when we met at our job. We were both working at a group home for teenagers with mental health concerns. Working together, we spent most of our days calling each other "Miss Meg" and "Mr. Josh" because that's what the kids called us. Meg still likes to remind Josh of how they met by writing "Mr. Josh" on birthday and anniversary cards...
After three years of dating, our wedding was a fairy tale day, with friends and family gathered around to celebrate. We both have huge families, who love to be loud and love to dance...this led to some funny and memorable moments at the reception! | Our Wedding
Josh is always on the go! Between running competitive races and fishing, he is always having some adventure...He also loves to cheer on hometown sports like our local baseball team. Josh is sincere and dedicated to the things that are important to him- whether it be his time with family, or at his job as a family therapist. | About Josh...
 I will always love you
 About Meg
Meg loves to be social, and has a group of best friends who are as close as sisters. She's always up for a new experience, like checking out a dusty antique shop or little local festivals. Meg left her full time job when Eli was born, and works about six hours per week in child development and helping her parents at their restaurant. This leaves lots of times for play dates and activities.
Eli's Adoption Story | After getting married, we were so excited to start a family and become parents. Meg knew from an early age that she would have problems becoming pregnant. We talked about adoption often, even while dating.. After attempting to get pregnant, we excitedly began our adoption journey in October 2010. Eli was born in October of 2011. He is the greatest joy of our life. | We were able to be at the hospital when Eli was born. Here he is just an hour old, and a few weeks later at home.
We have an open adoption with Eli's birth family, and consider ourselves one large family who is all there to support and love him. We visit every 3-4 months and talk often in between. Eli is a terrific toddler with a great sense of humor. From just a few months old, he started trying to make us laugh. He is always on the go, and loves other kids. We know he will make a great big brother. | Eli hanging out with his birth mom after a swim in the lake. | Eli loves to cuddle and loves getting kisses from Mommy and Daddy!
We are a family that likes to have fun together! Most of our friends describe us as pretty silly... | Meg's friends say they knew Josh was a "keeper" when he entered her friend Katie's wedding reception dressed in a sombrero because the DJ recruited him to start the Conga line! | Go Pirates! Cheering on our baseball team...
Our little fish! Eli is pretty obsessed with the pool and ocean...we have a pool membership and go often! | And farms...this kid loves tractors of all types...
Education is important to both of us. Josh has a Bachelor's degree in Psychology and a Master of Education in Counseling. Meg has a Bachelor's degree in Christian Ministry and a Master of Education in Counseling. We will support our children in any education they would like to do or path they want to take, just like our parents did for us.
Traveling is also something we love, and we have been really lucky to get to go a lot of great places. We have already taken Eli to Canada, Washington DC, our cabin in Pennsylvania, and the Florida Keys. We can't wait to take our growing family on more trips. | Florida Keys | Island of St. Lucia | Ontario, Canada
In 2010, we bought our house. It has three bedrooms, two bathrooms, and a large yard to play in. We bought this house because we were ready to start our family. We have always talked about adoption, and thought we would adopt as well as have children by birth. When we found out Meg would have a very hard time becoming pregnant, we knew God had put adoption in our hearts for a reason.
Our home is near family and friends, and we see them often. These people can't wait to add another cousin, grandchild, niece or nephew to our family. They are so excited about adoption, and have welcomed Eli's birth family into our family. They are ready to love another child in our family, and are always trying to learn more about adoption so they can support our children.
We love that we live right next to a park with awesome playgrounds, sports leagues, and a children's fishing pond. Our community is unique because dairy farms are just a few miles from urban areas with lots of diversity. We think this makes it a great place to raise kids, and we enjoy taking Eli to all sorts of local events. We go to the park almost daily! | Josh can't wait to take the advice on the can of bait and "take a kid fishing!" Eli is a little too small still, but likes to watch!
This is Rocky. He loves swimming more than anything. He is Eli's best friend...they play together all day long. Rocky doesn't mind when his tail is used as a track for Thomas the Train. | Our Pets | Meg got Darlin' as her 11th birthday present. Darlin' is currently used for young childrens' riding lessons, and is so gentle with little kids. Eli calls her a "cow."
Along with our family members, we also have great support through our "church family." These friends are always there for us, and truly feel like an extended family.
Our church believes children should be valued above all else. Our kids will learn about God, make friends, and grow into adults with a strong faith. | Eli loves his friends at play group, in the children's ministry, and at the church adoption group.
We hope you feel like you know us a little better now... We are a family that enjoys our life and tries to find the joy in every situation. We try to laugh at ourselves, and always show our love to each other as much as possible.
We know the decision you have to make is difficult; we have seen it first-hand with Eli's adoption. We are praying through all steps of this adoption journey, including for you and any families considering adoption for their children.
We are so blessed that God has provided us with a life and resources that will allow us to raise our children and give them great experiences. Our hearts are filled with love for Eli and his future siblings, as well as our children's first parents. We know that although we may not be able to have a child through birth, God is at work building our family, and we are so thankful for that! Thank you for taking the time to read our book, and we look forward to hopefully meeting with you in the future. ~Josh, Meg, and Eli
