S: East Coast Vacation 2011

FC: East Coast Vacation | 2011

1: On a hot July day we left Ontario and headed for the East Coast. After a stopover in Moncton and a recommendation from the locals, we headed out to explore St. Martins, NB, famous for it's covered bridges and entrance point to the Fundy Trail. It did not disappoint.

6: The beautiful nature around us impressed us all. And at times we were the only ones admiring it.

11: Cherish The Ones You Love

16: Sussex New Brunswick The Mural Capital of Atlantic Canada

18: On the road again ... We traded our Golden Falcon for a Big Horn, stopped at Tim's and headed for the Cabot Trail.

26: We visited historic Fort Louisbourg on the north-east shore of Nova Scotia ... a reconstructed 18th century town. It was freezing ... Matt had to buy a shirtshirt in the gift shop!

33: Boys and their toys!

36: The Ovens ... One of my most favourite places.

40: Early morning panning for gold at The Ovens beach. Lots of gold dust, but sadly no nuggets!

46: Lunenburg ... a designated UNESCO world heritage site. So many colourful buildings.

50: We went whale watching ... no whales, but we did see a seal colony and our campsite from another perspective!

53: Mahone Bay

56: Sea Kayaking for the first time around The Ovens' caves.

62: The city market in Saint John, New Brunswick.

66: On our way home we stopped at the impressive falls in Grand Falls, New Brunswick.

67: Our 2 1/2 week trip to the East Coast took us to many small villages. All were brightly coloured and housed many fishing boats, buoys and lobster traps. We walked on the sea floor and explored the caves, which hours earlier were hidden underwater. At almost every turn there were huge colourful rocks, enticing the boys to climb and explore, leading to some anxious moments! Each day held new experiences and sights for us all. We went whale watching, kayaking, biking and hiking .. saw the ocean, waterfalls and lakes ... toured towns and villages ... walked on a suspension bridge and under covered bridges. This was our third trip to Nova Scotia, but not our last.
