S: Seasons of Change
BC: For I know the plans I have for you, says the Lord. Plans for welfare and not for calamity. To give you a future and a hope. Jeremiah 29:11 Jeremiah 29:11
FC: The family Knutson the early years | Seasons of Change the building years (1973)
It's Official!! | It was a wonderful wedding day, The Sun shone and the wind blew, and it was a warm day! Thanks to all my Dad's hard work everyone had a great time.
Three generations, me, Grandpa Bowles, Mom | Lyle's family, Adele, Ruth, Aunt Marg and Dad Elmer
We moved into a one bedroom apartment in a complex called "Green Gables" and started our life together as husband and wife. I worked from 9-5 at the bank, and Lyle worked from 8pm-1am, but somehow it worked for us.... Our next home was, again, a one bedroom apt in a complex called " Summer's place". There we got to know the neighbors, Linda and Bob Prentice and their precious baby boy! Lyle bought a red Triumph TR6, and he put a lot of wax and polish on it!!!! He tried so hard to get me to learn how to drive the stick shift, but I was too afraid to break it!!! It was a beauty though. Soon there were many options for us as a young couple, Lyle was interested in the Air Force, Radio as Sports Director at CKOM in Saskatoon, and at the same time Elmer decided it was now or never for farming! So off we went and started our new adventure in Elbow, SK in the little white house on Main Street next to the Sod House Museum. Lyle became a farmer and I became a farmer's wife! It was a life of ups and downs, but I wouldn't trade them for anything. The Lord finally beat down the door to my heart and we became a cord of 3 strands!
We lived in that little white house for 5 years. We brought both of our kids home to that house when they were born. Lived through the tornado of June 1976 and bad blizzard of the winter of 1976-1977. The 3 pregnancies, 2 kids, one dog and lots of great memories came from our time living in town. Our hopes and prayers were answered in 1975 when we found out we were going to have a baby in mid December . So Lyle measured my growth and we waited........
Waiting for Baby... boy or girl didn't know... | so we waited and waited...
Carley with her cousins Adam Rebecca and Tanya on her first Christmas in Yorkton with the Sewells | Carley and Miss Black in the little house on Main Street
Carley's first year, Elbow & Saskatoon & Yorkton | Carley spent her first birthday in our apartment on Assinaboine Dr. in Saskatoon.
We loved our precious daughter even when she thought day was night! Lyle spent hours just holding her and rocking her, we were a family. Even as I put these pages together I found myself just wishing for one more day to hold her and to cuddle her. Lyle named her when I was only 3 months pregnant. He said,"you may not like it but just give it a chance. Carley Marie..." I liked it right away. When we brought her home from the hospital, we laid her on a blanket and Miss Black sniffed her, and from then on she guarded Carley
We had a horse, Stoney, for a very short period of time. These photos were taken by Uncle Bing (Ray Unger) when he came to visit in the fall of 1976. These were our first Official family photos. Carley even got to live through a tornado on June 1976, take a trip to Calgary in the back of the Chevy Nova hatchback.. no car seat, just a blanket to sleep on! We consider ourselves very blessed to have been protected in those days before the car seat!
Family photo at Camp Lake,AB at the Bowles Family Reunion with a baby on the way | Cathy and me the spring of 1977 with Carley and Darin | friends helping each other
sitting on Granpa's planter at 43 king st
Kristofer Kjell came to us November 9, 1977. We didn't have a name in advance for Kris, we had ideas but none that really stuck. When we looked at him I asked Lyle if he liked the name Christopher. He said he liked it but wanted to spell it the Norwegian way Kristofer, we added the second name Kjell which we had always liked. Unfortunately I combined the two spellings on his birth certificate as Kristopher. We always spelled it with an "f" and didn't know our error until he went for a passport, oh well, we treasured him no matter how we spelled it!! Like Carley, Kris was a smiley happy baby. Our family was complete. We were so thankful for the Lord's blessings. | and then there was four...
Knutson men: Kristofer Lyle, Elmer and Kaspar
"I hope you always have a shell in your pocket...and sand in your shoes." | 1978 | We lived on the main street of Elbow in the little white house next to the sod shack. We put up a swing set in the backyard and the two kids had so much fun on it. As the pictures show they laughed and played together inside and out. Miss Black protected them (not that I let them out of my sight!) We lived in that house for 5 years and I dreamed of all the things I could do to fix it up, it had so much potential...
In the winter of 1978 we moved into Saskatoon in the house on Cumberland Ave. 'That winter we spent a lot of time with Dolores, Hollis and Rebecca. So it is only natural that Rebecca graces the page of our life. Carley loved her purple room and we loved the winter there, although Miss Black ran away for about 3 weeks and then just came home to the back yard like she had never left at all!
 Camping in Saskatchewan
My favorite time was story time no matter what time of day that was. Carley and Kris loved to listen to stories, whether it was devotions or a story book. My favorite memory is going through the little House on the Prairie series. We would get to an exciting point in the story and they would ask for "just one more chapter". The truth was I didn't want to quit either! We spent many days over the years at Bible Camp, always with more special people to stay with us... once even having to pitch a tent beside the cabin to fit everyone in to sleep!
In January of 1981, Lyle surprised us all with a trip to Disneyland. On the way we stopped at the the Lava fields and explored the cracks in the earth's surface where lava came up through the ground
Time in the fantasy forest visiting the trails of the 7 dwarfs and other fairy tale friends. We were on our way to Kelowna for cousin Linda's wedding. | camping at Camp Lake in AB with the Bowles side of the family.
 growing up too fast....
these are some of the many family photos that are the physical memories that keep all the emotional memories together
the upper left photo is in a rest spot on the way to Minneapolis, upper right and lower left are at Greenwater Provincial Park and the bottom right is on the way to Kelowna in the mountains
Fernando Saldana Urutea came to be part of our family in 1988, we spent Christmas in Mexico the next year and then he came back to visit us for Christmas in 1990. Over the years we have grown apart but he will always be my Mexican son.
Life went on and through volleyball, hockey and football. Confirmation for both of our children and trips to Minnisota to watch baseball... even one time we got to travel all the way home on $20 and a gas card! I think we had more fun in the challenging times as we did in the rest, something about working together just makes things special. Over all we had a really good 19 years raising our precious children then they went off to start their lives... I will always be thankful for these years. There are so many more photos but to put them all together would take more pages than these few!
these pictures represent the best Christmas present ever! It was the one where we just celebrated simply and together. This is the time that Kris and Lyle set up the decorations and Carley and I came home to the surprise. My kids are the best gifts I ever could have gotten.
How blessed we have been to have shared all these years together official family photo 1998
