5: Josephine | Laura | The LeFaivre Sisters | Lafayette Marcus Plumb was born on October 6, 1864 in Illinois. He died on March 9, 1917 in Alton, Illinois. He married Mary Margaret Lippert on September 15, 1883. They had one son, Edward. They divorced sometime around 1889 and he married our grandmother Cora Jane LeFaivre on July 30, 1890. They had 8 children, Clarence, Fred, Edith, Mary, Wilbur, Earl, Edna and our father, Claude. Cora Jane LeFaivre was born on October 15, 1870 in Portage, Missouri to John Baptiste LeFaivre and Rachel Jane Taylor. She died on September 4, 1920 in Alton, Illinois | Claude Plumb as a young boy probably around 1917.

After he and our great grandmother Myrtle divorced he moved back to Canada, remarried and had two sons and two daughters. Our mother corresponded with his grandson Brent Zavitz with letters and pictures. 15: Myrtle Gaskill | Myrtle Gaskill was born to William E. Gaskill and Mary Jane Lane on August 28, 1869. She married Clinton Zavitz in December, 1889 in Ontario, Canada. They had one child, William Harold Zavits, our grandfather. They divorced and she married Will Sweet on February 3, 1897 in Ontario, Canada. Will Sweet died in 1901. She later married Otho Feagler and they ran a hotel in LaGrange, Ohio. As written in a photo album of our mother's, Myrtle Gaskill married a 4th time and lived on a farm in Berville, Michigan in the late 20's and early 30's.. She owned and ran a boarding house in Detroit, Michigan in the early and mid-30's. She was an accomplished seamstress and at some point in her life worked as a tailor. She made many quilts by hand that are still in the family. She died in Portland, Texas, on August 21, 1957 where she lived with our grandparents William and Margueritte Zavits,.

In 1924 they moved to the farm in Arkansas. 1926 to Carthage, Missouri 1930 to Sedalia, Missouri and finally in 1933 they settled in Alton, Illinois where he owned and operated the Dixcel Motor Lodge. which consisted of overnight lodging, automobile service and a dining room. The Dixcel Motor Lodge was the showplace of North Alton in the 1920's. They sold and moved to Corpus Christi, Tx in 1936. They played in and around Alton, Illinois in the early to mid 30's. Mom had a friend whose father had converted a chicken farm into a popular night spot where dad was singing with the Gene Gere band. The story goes like this.......opening night for the club seemed like a likely time for an introduction - dad visited their table and later came by again and asked mom if she had a song request. She said, "Love in Bloom" and he agreed if she would let him take her home. And the story begins. . ..

Dad also owned a TV Sales and Service store and mom worked for the Chester Newspaper as a proof-reader. Our sister, Mary Bennett Plumb, was born in Chester in 1954. Portland was called the "Gem City of the Gulf" and was described as being the most attractive and pleasant spot in Texas. 119: In the early 70's mom and dad started visiting Goliad to watch the horse races and fell in love with the rolling hills, giant oak trees and the history of Goliad. They purchased a tract of land in 1972 and would spend weekends clearing the underbrush and building fences. Mom designed the house and contracted the building of the house. In August of 1977 they were able to finally move into their house.. In 1979 mom went to work for the Goliad Chamber of Commerce.
