"If you don't read the newspaper, you're uninformed. If you read the newspaper, you're misinformed." ~Mark Twain Toby is not yet officially misinformed, but he was checking out the Wall Street Journal, following in the footsteps of his dad. The paper was at Toby's regular spot, so he simply perused it while enjoying his sandwich. We just need to get him drinking coffee, and he'll be ready for the professional world.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY | Melissa made Toby's cake, and we celebrated at the Rainforest Cafe. | When you are three, you can climb the wall at Tumbleweed.

NEW YEAR | HAPPY | The Year of the Ox
We celebrated the Chinese new year with our small group at C-Fu Gourmet. Joann showcased her Cantonese and dim-sum expertise and ordered for all of us. It was yummy and fun.
Toby had a delightful time at Gaby Chu's birthday party, which was at Jeeper's Indoor Amusement Park. He liked the jet ride the best, but he tried almost all of them.

We thought we were going out for an Easter egg hunt, but it turned into Toby's modeling shoot. Maybe the sugar inspired him. | Easter | On the other side of the camera
Toby's "new" bike | Perry transformed Anna's girly bike into Toby's cool bike with a few supplies found around the house. Not bad for a bike we bought for $5 at a sale.
This is one of my favorite pictures from the year. We were at the zoo, and Toby was entranced with the turtles at the pond. He got right down on his belly to check them out. The turtle didn't seem to be intimidated at all...just kind of examined him in return.

Since our extended family lives in the Midwest, we rely on friends to be our family out here. The Bastians certainly fill the role nicely. We all get along most of the time, and Lori and I appreciate how the kids wear each other out.

Toby had a great time bonding with his cousins in Vail, CO. We shared a house with Grammy, Grandpop, and Aunt Mary's family. We went on hikes, rode a gondola, canoed on a lake, and many other, mainly outdoor things. But the best part was just hanging out with family. | Vail
How do people make it through life without a sister? ~Sara Corpening | toby and anna
Messy sticky art class Toby's first exposure to Gilbert Parks and Rec was for this fabulous art class that was right up his alley. At first he had a hard time comprehending that he could and should be as messy as he wanted to be. But then he got into it. He liked making a Christmas ornament, and any sort of project with shaving cream.
We love our "cousin" Grace! Roberta and Grace came down for a short visit in the summer, and we went up there to hang out a couple of times. Grace is right in between Toby and Anna, so they all get along. She fits in well to whatever is gong on.
 Memorial Day Camping
It's fun to be with friends, and it is fun to be in nature. It stands to reason it is even more fun to be with friends in nature. That's why we camped over Memorial Day Weekend with the Rokuseks. A friend for each of us, and lots of green all around.
My favorite things | How I have fun: playing pretend games, like the zoo game (Daddy is the zoo keeper, and I am the animals who do tricks and run around); ride a big boy bike fashion statement: wearing long sleeved shirts and pants, even in triple digits
what i like to eat: sweet things, waffles, snacks, popsicles, what i like to read: Henry and Mudge books what i like to watch: Diego, Little Einsteins, Wonder Pets, babies laughing on youtube what i like to listen to: baby Jesus: the red video | favorite places: Solomon’s house, camping favorite family activity: playing games what makes me proud: making something out of Legos something I learned this year: how to pedal a bike
We all enjoy a good book, and even more when we get to spend time with loved ones while we read.
The below picture is of the family in Gilbert. The fountain is located in one of our favorite spots: close to Boston's and Bounce U. | Everyone gamely toured the Botanical Grden, even though ihe temperature was a little bit toasty.
 Our Small Group
We are grateful to be a part of a group that welcomes us without reserve, and stretches us in how we live out our faith.
Aloha | Aquatic Center | Knowing how to swim is not really an option where we live. Toby has made a lot of progress, especially with confidence in the water.
Miss Kristin has been a fabulous match for Toby: she is patient, not excitable, and has a sense of humor.
We got to spend a bunch of time camping this summer. This trip was with friends from our playgroup. The kids had fun getting dirty and playing in the nearby creek. Toby managed to climb the steep hill in back of our campsite. He also got a kick out of spitting on the trees when he brushed his teeth.
With a zoo membership, we got to make lots of trips to the zoo without worrying about fitting all the opportunities into one visit. Toby managed to be brave enough to pet and brush the animals in the petting zoo and tried his hand at milking a cow.
Bethany Community Church Annual Labor Day Camping Trip Crook Group Campground on the Mongollan Rim | I like when we get the chance to try something new. It is not always pleasant, and it doesn't always end up being successful, but it is beneficial. Camping held the tried and true for Toby: being with Solomon, but also some new experiences: fishing on ray Wallace's boat, and camping overnight in the rain.
if there is a costume to wear, he will wear it. If there is a "handsome boy" occasion, he will find it. If there is a stack of clean clothes, he must change whatever his current outfit is. He is the epitome of the "sharp dressed man"
Every girl's crazy about a sharp dressed man. ~ZZ Top
As is the case with most events, Halloween tends to stretch out in the Board household. We visited Mother Nature's farm with our buddy, Logen. Our family dressed up as characters from the Wizard of Oz for the Bastian Bash. Our original plan was to be the four main friends, but Toby insisted on being the Wicked Witch. Of course, we went around our neighborhood begging for candy. Toby used his witch costume again for that. Perry even made him a cool broom.
And that's the wonderful thing about family travel: it provides you with experiences that will remain locked forever in the scar tissue of your mind. ~Dave Barry
While Perry stayed home to take classes, the rest of us embarked on a tour of the Midwest. We stayed for awhile at the Davenports, where Toby discovered all sorts of toys and loved playing with his older cousins. Then it was on to Pittsburgh, where we baked cookies and watched football with Aunt Beji.
 Such a great experience: Philadelphia's Children's Museum
Perry accompanied the rest of us to John and Kourtney's wedding in New Jersey. We celebrated Anna's birthday in the hotel with the Wyers and Grammy and Grandpop.
