They are at home with the grooms parents until spring, when they will go to housekeeping on a farm near Otterville. A reception, with neighbors and friends attending was given at the grooms parents, Monday evening.

35: Jacob Marcum Awarded Metal of Honor M/Sgt. Jacob W. Marcum of Otterville, has been awarded the Bronze Star Medal. The citation reads as follows: " The Bronze Star Medal is awarded to M/Sgt. Jacob W. Marcum, 37083490, Field Artillery, Headquarters Company. 692nd Tank Destroyer Battalion, for meritorious service in action, from 27 October 1944 to 14 April 1945 in Belgium, Holland, Germany and France. " Assigned the mission of coordinating the activities of the Battalion Motor Maintenance Platoon throughout this period, Sgt. Marcum worked with steadfast vigor and initiative to keep the vehicles under his supervision at maximum mobility. The untiring efforts and superior leadership despite the most adverse conditions of swampy terrain, inclement weather and meager recovery equipment, enabled his platoon successfully to achieve its numerous missions. Entered military service from Boonville, Mo." Sgt. Marcum has been in service three years and nine months and has been overseas since September, 1944. His wife, the former Miss Mildred Rogers, resides with her parents in Otterville.

51: OTTERVILLE- Miss Mae Marcum, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W. P. Marcum of Otterville, became the bride of Lawrence Lee, son of Mr. and Mrs. Earl Lee of Sedalia, on New Year's Day in Sedalia. Miss Ina Howard and Oliver Caton of Otterville were the couples only attendants. Mrs. Lee graduated from Otterville High School in 1941 and has been employed in Sedalia during the past two years. Mr. Lee is employed by the Sedalia bus line. The couple will make their home in Sedalia. Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Lee who were married at the home of Justice of the Peace A.M. Harlan on West Broadway, January 1, Mrs. Lee, the former Miss. Mae Marcum daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W. P. Marcum, of Otterville, graduated from the high school there in 1941. Howard A. Wood, pastor of the Methodist church of Otterville. Attending the bridal couple were Miss Mae Marcum and Marion Marcum sister and brother of the groom. Patricia Mae Watring of Tipton was the ring bearer. The bride was attired in a navy blue dress and wore a corsage of gardenias. Miss. Dorothy Wright, sister of the bride and her only attendant, wore a navy blue suit with white accessories and a corsage of red rose buds. Mr.Lean Wright, of 250 East Boonville street served as best man. Mrs. Marcum was graduated from the Smith-Cotton high school in the class of 1945 and is now employed at the Town and Country Shoe Factory. Mr. Marcum is employed in construction work.

93: Couple's Contribution To Nation Outstanding As written in newspaper Otterville-Mr. and Mrs. W.P. Marcum who reside on a farm three miles northeast of Otterville have reared a family of seven sons and three daughters, and of the sons six have seen or are seeing active service in the U.S. Army or Navy. In addition to the sons one son-in-law served with the U.S. Army. To date each son has been able to escape injury of serious nature. Let us look briefly at the individual record of each son. Jacob W. Marcum was inducted into the Army, Oct, 14,1941, at Jefferson Barracks. Basic training was received at Ft. Riley. Following additional traing in the states he was sent to Europe where he served in France, Belgium, Holland, and Germony. He was awarded the Bronze Star Medal for meriterius service in action from Oct. 27, 1944 to April 14,1945 in Belgium, Holland, Germany, and France with the E92nd Tank Destroyer Battallon. He was discharged Nov. 7, 1945 as a master sergeant. Mr. and Mrs. Marcum and six year old son, Gary Dean, live in Otterville where Marcum operates a service station. He is a past commander of the American Legion Post at Otterville, and is active in the work of that organization. Marion G. Marcum enlisted in the U.S. Navy Oct. 19, 1944, and received boot training at the Great Lakes Naval Station. He was stationed at Anemo Depot, Hastings, Nebr., where he served till his discharge July 12, 1946. He and Mrs. Marcum and two year old son, Marion Christopher, are now residing in Kansas City where he is employed by the Tobin Construction Company. Guss Marcum was inducted into the U.S. Naval Reserve Nov. 12, 1943 at Kansas City and received boot training at Farragut, Idaho. He made the Normandy invasion and of northern France with the following eight months spent in England for repairs. After 18 months of overseas duty he returned to the states to enter the naval hospital at Ft.Eustis Va. He was discharged Dec. 11,1945. He and Mrs. Marcum and six year old son Larry Wayne, live on a farm two and one-half miles northwest of Otterville. Marcum is employed by the Castle Brothers Construction Company.

94: George R. Marcum was inducted into the Army Sept. 17, 1950. His basic traing was receivrd at Ft. Leonard Wood where he stayed for three months additional training. March 14, 1951, he was sent to Fort Benning, Ga. to serve as an instructor in the motor school and where he received the rank of sergant. Sept. 13, 1952 he received discharge while at Fort Benning. He and Mrs. Marcum and 10 month old son George Marcum, reside in Kansas City where he is employed by the Tobin Construction Company. Two of the sons are now in the service of the United States. Clarence W. Marcum, GM 3, enlisted in the Navy Sept. 19, 1950, and took his boot training at camp Maffett, USNTC. He is now at Great Lakes Naval station. PVT. R.V. Marcum entered service Sept. 9, 1952, and is know taking his basic training at Camp Chaffee, Ark. The son-in-law, John Watring, entered the Navy Dec. 7, 1943. Following boot training at Farrarut, Idaho, he was stationed at the Ammunition Depot at Hawthern, Nev., till discharge Dec. 24, 1945. He and his wife (Gertie Marcum) daughter, Patricia, 13 years old, and son, John Earl, seven, reside on a farm near Otterville. The other daughters are Mrs. Tom Cooper (Cecile) and Mrs. Lawrence Lee (Mae), who with their husbands live on farms near Otterville. Mr. and Mrs. Earl Marcum, the oldest son, and their two sons, Deo Van and William Earl, reside at Sikeston

95: To my Family I created this book of pictures and articles to share a small part of each of the Marcum family.
