FC: Short Devotionals to Start Your Day! by Kevin Bacon | Rock Solid

No one should seek his own good, but the good of others - 1 Corinthians 10:24 | Kevin definitely lives up to this verse. Kevin works as a detective for Chesterfield County. When he is not working, he is playing with his daughter, Naomi. he volunteers much of his time to his church. He is the Tech Coordinator for adult and children's church, a projection station operator, message editor, Bread Pantry coordinator, and The Financial University Coordinator. He is truly a man after God's own heart.

"He who has a generous eye will be blessed, for he gives of his bread to the poor." Prov. 22:9 Many opened up their homes and shared of their provisions, time and talents to those who lost much during the storm. With Spirit-filled believers, generosity doesn't stem from and expectation of being blessed afterward. We bless others out of pure love. When that happens, we can know that not only is our Father pleased, He's standing by to open HIS floodgates! Love2U! | Day 1

I will feed My flock, and I will make them lie down, " says the Lord God." Ezekiel 34:15 All of us have had trouble sleeping at some point. Whether it was from discomfort or pain, or perhaps just having a lot running through our minds. If we allow our minds to be fed by the peace Jesus brought and not on the distractions that the world has us feast upon, we would experience more of HIS rest. We need rest, so let's turn to the One who gives and takes away. Peace2U! | Day 2

"For this very purpose I have raised you up, that I may show my Power in you, and that My name may be declared in all the earth." Romans 9:17. Oh yes... we at Christian Life have POWER. Electricity is in the building and His Holy Spirit is POURING from His people! Come see for yourself. Let Jesus RECHARGE you! | Day 3

"but exhort one another daily, while it is called "Today," lest any of you be hardened through the deceitfulness of sin." -Heb.3:13 Most of us, especially us men, appreciate the cheerleaders in life. Sometimes we NEED a gentle kick in the seat; other times we just need to HEAR that we're headed in the right direction. So WHO are we encouraging? Are WE cheering others on? Spirit-filled believers should be the best cheerleaders, because we KNOW who wins the game! Joy2U! | Day 4

"Then the Lord God took the man and put him in the garden of Eden to tend and keep it." Gen. 2:15 For today's Labor Day, instead of just being thankful for a break from work (if we get on today), let's reflect on how God views our work. He has placed talents in each of us to be used to accomplish certain tasks, our talents will generate the BEST work possible and will be honoring to our Father who gave us them! Joy2U! | Day 5

" Then He said to them, "Follow Me, and I will make you fishers of men." Matthew 4:19 Most would agree that the best teachers lead by example. So who are our children following? Who are WE following? Is the Holy Spirit leading us in the way the Lord intended, or are we allowing the world to lead us away from righteousness by its MANY examples of sexual immorality, violence, selfishness, etc.? Let's be the best teachers we can by being LIVING lessons! Grace2U! | Day 6

"All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, .., that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work." -2Tim.3:16-17 Forgetting a tool or work item because we are in a hurry for work makes the work day a bit harder. Perhaps we make due, but the job is harder. When we start our day without His Word, we similarly have left an IMPORTANT tool that God may have given to us to make a task easier, or to reach someone for that day. Read and be ready! Joy2U! | Day 7

"and they will turn their ears away from truth, and be turned aside to fables." -2Tim.4:4 We must be careful not to allow a desire of our heart to turn us away from God's will or truth. It would be easy to interpret our own truth, even from His word, to fit our desire, yet God warned us about this. Truth may sometimes cause us hurt feelings, but let's KNOW that God would rather see our feelings hurt than our spirit crushed by lies or deceit within us. Peace2U! | day 8

"But the Lord was with Joseph and showed him mercy, and He gave him favor in the sight of the keeper of the prison." -Gen.39:21 | Joseph was falsely accused and thrown into prison, YET the Lord was working through him the entire time. As we go through struggles, if we honor God, praise Him, keep righteous (by HIS definition) AND are careful not to blame Him, then we will see how He uses ALL circumstances for the betterment of His people! Let's keep His SHINE on! Joy2U! | Day 9

"and the Lord is with us. Do not fear them." -Numbers14:9 Instead of spending time worrying about what or who we could lose in our lives, let's KNOW that when we are following the Lord's direction for our lives, we need not fear ANY loss, or any person who may try to cause it. Those who love and honor God know that all losses we experience are known by and allowed by God for our betterment. Our Father wants to GIVE blessings, not take them away. Peace2U! | Day 10

"He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all things that I said to you." John 14:26 Did Jesus only want us to remember the words He SAID, or did He want us to WALK in the peace and power He left through the Holy Spirit? When thinking of those we've lost, just REMEMBERING their presence does nothing. Instead, let's learn from them and DO the positive things they DID! Then they will be HONORED and their existence will have made a difference. Peace2U! | Day 11

"But if we hope for what we do not see, we eagerly wait for it with perseverance." Roman 8: 25 Sometimes we can't see the light at the end of the tunnel, because of a bend in the tracks. keys to staying positive on the track are knowing that the Holy Spirit is GUIDING us on the RIGHT track, and being excitedly PATIENT for the end. We know from God that THE LIGHT IS THERE, so we should no longer wonder"if", but "WHEN"! Let's wait...the BREAKTHROUGH is coming! Joy2U! | Day 12

"Therefore let us cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armor of light." -Rom.13:12 Soldiers would NEVER go into battle without first preparing themselves. Satan will set up temptation "mines" throughout our day. Jesus Christ is our armor, in case one tries to blow up and hurt us. The Holy Spirit can guide us safely THROUGH the minefield and open up our ears to hear the defusing instructions of our Father. Why walk through this world unprotected? Love2U! | Day 13

"Remember His marvelous works which He has done, His wonders, and the judgments of His mouth." -1Chr.16:12 It is likely that EVERY one of us can remember something AMAZING that the Lord has done for us. Sadly, we all tend to quickly go back to our lack-luster living, forgetting what God did, is doing, and WILL DO in the lives of those who love Him, and the judgment of those who don't. Let's remember...His control is not subject to OUR belief that He is or isn't! Grace2U! | Day 14

Are we walking around with a Holy Spirit "chip" on our shoulder, or do we understand just where Christ brought US out of? Most people know where they fall short, and while the Bible teaches us to "preach" repentance..we must do so with humility, knowing that we are NO BETTER than any other of God's children. Let's think about it, how many of us knew when WE would repent? Grace2U! | "to speak evil of no one, to be peaceable, gentle, showing all humility to all men." -Titus 3:2 | Day 15

"Therefore be wise as serpents and harmless as doves." -Matt.10:16b If we know the enemy's tricks, we will be better prepared to fight them off. God's word says that HE provides all wisdom and knowledge, so when we rely on the Holy Spirit working in us, it's not OUR wisdom we are relying on...but HIS! Let's not walk around afraid of this world, wondering what attack will come next. Instead, let's walk with confidence that our Loving Father has prepared us to overcome. Peace2U! | Day 16

"Be diligent to present yourself approved to God, a worker who does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth." -2Tim.2:15 We all get embarrassed when we answer a question, and LATER learn that the answer we gave was incorrect. It's important that we know the answers ourselves before speaking, otherwise we could misdirect someone. Remember, if we say it's from God or in His word, we should rely on HIS truth, not our own interpretation. Joy2U! | Day 15

"Do you have faith? Have it to yourself before God." -Rom.14:22 Real faith in the Lord Jesus Christ is not demonstrated by how many times we say His name to others. We show others our faith by how we live according to HIS guidance (as opposed to the world's). When unbelievers wonder how we keep peaceful in troubled times will speak to them about Christ much clearer than if we were to talk about Jesus and live as worrisome wrecks. Let's be His living example today! Love2U | Day 16

"Lord, You will establish peace for us, for You have also done all our words in us." -Isa.26:12 When we can't seen to sleep, when we can't seem to focus on the day because of so many things running through our minds, we only need to look as far as the Prince of Peace for His calming effect. His Spirit will let us know if WE have caused our uneasiness through sin (and encourage repentance), or if worries simply need to be turned over to Him. HIS yolk is light...so why carry ours? Peace2U! | Day 19

"So the king gave the command, and they brought Daniel... But the king spoke, saying to Daniel, "Your God, whom you serve continually, He will deliver you."" -Daniel 6:16 We can believe God has done, and will do, all He said He will because He has proven Himself completely trustworthy. Integrity is important. If we say we are going to do something, do we do it? whether it makes us comfortable or not? A person's "word" doesn't mean what it used to. Let's change that. Love2U! | Day 20

"And the Lord turned and looked at Peter. Then Peter remembered the word of the Lord, .." -Luke 22:61 As often as the disciples let Jesus down, did Jesus give up on them? Let's be conscious of our reaction (especially with children) when they get things wrong. We may think they should know better, yet we could be hindering their learning by getting angry. Failing + encouragement + perseverance will eventually lead to success. Let's think..didn't most of US learn by making mistakes? Joy2U! | Day 21

"But it is good to be zealous in a good thing always, and not only when I am present with you." -Gal.4:18 How many of us have passion in the way we live (righteously), in the work we do, or even as we announce and demonstrate our beliefs to others? The world often puts down or dismisses people with zeal, reasoning that they must be "fake". When we are living with His Spirit and we are giving ourselves to the talents God put in us, we WILL show a passion for all we do. Joy2U! | Day 22

"The angel of the LORD encamps all around those who fear Him, and delivers them." -Psa34:7 As we go through challenging times, praying for deliverance, we can just envision Jesus coming in and setting up a protective barrier that lets Satan know, "No more!" But the key is fearing HIM...NOT Satan. Satan is very real and is trying to destroy us, BUT GOD is our shield. Encampments and shields don't stop the attack, they block them. Have we asked God to encamp around us today? Peace2U! | Day 23

Do we determine God's love for us by the number or frequency of prayers He answers for us each day? God's love for us is never ending, and He wants HIS best for us, not our best. As such, prayers DO get answered in time, and desires do become fulfilled, yet let's not try to determine ourselves when the best time for that to happen will be. Let's pray in faith, and wait on Him. He knows more than we do! Peace2U! | "Your kingdom come. Your will be done on earth as it is in Heaven." -Matthew 6:10 | Day 24

Day 25 | " The angel of the LORD encamps all around those who fear Him, and delivers them" Psalm 34:7 As we go through challenging times, praying for deliverance, we can just envision Jesus coming in and setting up a protective barrier that lets Satan know, "No more!" But the key is fearing HIM.... NOT Satan. Satan is very real and is trying to destroy us, BUT GOD is our shield. Encampment and shield don't stop the attack, the block them., Have we asked God to encamp around us today? Peace2U!
