FC: Sigma Phi Lambda Alpha Alpha Chapter 2010-2011

1: This book documents the actions of the Alpha Alpha chapter of the Sigma Phi Lambda sorority at the University of Mississippi from 2010 to 2011. Sigma Phi Lambda exists for the sole purpose of glorifying our Lord Jesus Christ and making His name great. Sisters for the Lord is an organization of Sisters whose fellowship with our most high God is fostered by growth in unity with one another. We seek to provide a source of fellowship to Christian women who sincerely seek to know His person, His will and His ways.

4: Special Traditions Engagement Circle Whenever a member gets engaged, she secretly tells the chapter president and a special ceremony is planned on her behalf. Everyone stands in a circle while the president reads a passage. As she is reading, a lit candle is passed around the group 3 times. On the third time, the engaged girl blows out the candle and her sisters celebrate with her. Initiation Big Sisters have the honor of initiating their Little Sisters into the Active body of Sigma Phi Lambda. Pledges must meet a series of requirements to be initiated. Pledges who meet these qualifications are encouraged to attend a candle-lit initiation ceremony on the last chapter meeting of the semester. When her name is called, she meets her Big Sister at the front of the room. Her Big Sister prays for her and shares her favorite passage of scripture. She then pins her Little Sister with an official Sigma Phi Lambda pin. The pledge signs the Sigma Phi Lambda Active book and her Big Sister declares her an Active member. Many Bigs also write their Littles a special letter of encouragement upon initiation.
