This volume presents work from 1995 to 2010. For the artist this was a time for experimentaion and discovery. Julio Blanco is an Artist, Painter and Designer. HIs journey as an artst has taken a few turns in terms of style. His work has matured and evolved to achieve an aesthetic that is all his. As a painter, hIs main interest lies in the figure used as a language. As an artist it varies from pop to portraiture and graphic design. "IMy work is in constant evolution as are the times in which we live. Change happens fast now and staying relevant is a constant challenge. I loved the illustrations on those posters. They inspired me to draw. The freestyle expressionism of those old school Spanish artists made a big impression on me growing up. I am an animal lover and do not like bullfighting as a sport. If I do catch on television I cheer for the bull. I am interested in the dance of death between "El Toreador" and the Bull who will surely die but the fighter always looks death in the face. I paint bulls and bullfighters. I paint them to study their gestures and body language. They are romantic and passionate paintings. Some of them are among my best work. Olé

56: ABSTRACT EXPRESSIONISM I am interested in the physical relationship between myself, the media and the surface. My process is primal and I paint from the gut with an appetite for discovery. "The search for originality is what drives me." The lines blur between abstract expressionism and representational. and where painted between 2002 and 2010. Each and every stroke is laid spontaneous but with great care. Spontaneously, I begin forming arbitrary relationships between lines and space, composing on the fly straight from my minds eye. When I paint you can almost see the sparks fly. Lines intersect, forms and colors collide, shapes drift and settle, all the time trusting my eyes to catch that lightning in a bottle. Its an all out war and the canvas is my battlefield The aftermath...The painting immortal. Walkaway Julio Blanco 2002 Acrylic on Canvas 42 x 56 inches (143 x 106 cm)

72: BODY LANGUAGE This is the first painting of the series titled "Body Language" We use our bodies to communicate, posture and flirt. We give off signals by the way we walk, we look, we carry ourselves that says who we are and where we are going.. Body Language is a subtle yet effective means of attracting and detracting attention. A twist of the hip, the angle of the shoulder, stature or lack of it. These are things that speak volumes of a persons frame of mind. Body language is a social phenomena that everyone uses to communicate to one another. I attempt to capture those subtle hints as they happen during the process. It is a concept that I continue to explore today. Different Strokes Julio Blanco 1996 Acrylic and Ink on Paper 22 x 29 inches (60 x 74 cm)

92: SISTERS IN ARMS Sisters is a work in progress. A character study on a band of powerful women. The Guardian, the StrikeMaster and the NightStalker among others. Fearless and fashionable. They are SIsters in Arms. The story is set 500 years after the apocalypse. Mans reckless overconsumption has created mountains of trash that touch the sky. The bugs are bigger. uglier, slimier, and far more dangerous. They seek the same things we do. They are The Buggernauts, The Goiterworms and those pesky Slishwiks. That creates a problem. Excess and excrement have ushered in the toxic age. The air is thick with the smell of Sulfur and Methane. Human lungs have mutated and can now be attached to the airoaetors for maximum comfort and efficiency. AiroLife systems has developed a -zero level filtration system that is affordable, comfortable, stylish and safe. When Sisters band they chronicle their adventures into the unknown Every day its a different story which they channel through my pen and record them onto the canvas.
