 Ancient River Valley Civilizations

This time period began when groups of people began to farm rather than do hunt and gather. This allowed for people to have specialized jobs within a group of people. People stopped moving from place to place and began to settle in a certain area. These settlements rose to become the River Valley civilizations along the fertile crescent. The Egyptians are know for building the Pyramids of Giza, using hieroglyphics as their language, and the use the Nile River for farming. The Babylonians established the first law system know as a harsh set of rules called Hammurabi's Code and the first example of a government being used in history. These civilizations eventually rose to become some of the best empires.

If Hammurabi didn't create his code of laws there would be no guideline to create laws how they are today. Without Hammurabi's code of laws people would have been undisciplined all there lives and wouldn't know that there is a consequence for each action you make. Hammurabi set out guidelines for a judicial system as far as punishments go which allowed sentencing to be easier.

 Classical Greece & Rome

During this period of time many empires began to have strong military forces. They also began to conquer and expand empires. Military tactics were the the most logical and advanced yet. Literature, math, science, art, and other farming techniques were being rethought and more convenient. Trading networks were being established during this time periods. Countries were trading goods between one another for goods they didn't have along the Silk Road and Mediterranean Sea. Alexander the Great conquered all the lands from Europe and northern Africa to modern day India. This clashed many cultures together under one rule known as the Hellenistic culture.

If Rome had not fallen it would have been the largest and most vast empire in the World. They had one of the strongest militaries and was lead by many great commanders. There economy would be the one of the strongest economies and would be the world super power. Oil and gold would have been controlled by the Romans and other natural resources. Perhaps if the empire never fell there wouldn't have been a WWI or WWII.

 Post Classical Asia & Africa

During this time period. a tribal group in northern Asia, Mongols, led by Genghis Khan began to fight and take control of other neighboring countries. Their were specialized horsemen that were able to attack villages and towns quickly. After Genghis Khan passed away, Mongols still continued to conquer all the lands from Russia to China. This greatly helped the Silk Road increase its trading with the western world. Soon their During this time period African city-states and kingdoms began to rise in power. They mainly rose in power because their trading of salt and gold. In the northern part of Africa, the religion of Islam spread throughout all these areas. This part of Africa was unified under Islamic law that controlled all areas of human life. People from northern moved south and spread many languages throughout the whole continent which were known as Bantu Migrations.

If the Mongols had not opened the silk road to safe travels then people wouldn't want to trade along the silk road. This would limit the interaction between Asia, Africa, and Europe. Asia would therefore be more isolated from the rest of the world. This would have allowed for empires in Asia to grow independently and become more advanced than Europe and Africa.

 Medieval Ages

After the strong Roman Empire fell apart, Europe became a gloomy place to live in. Much of the land was controlled through feudalism where rich people and poor peasants depended on each other. The Roman Catholic Church also took control of Europe through ts religion and power. Unfortunately, Christianity's competitor, Islam, was also gaining followers in the other close parts of the world. Therefore, Christians joined together by orders of the Pope and went on Crusades or holy wars to try to get back the holy land, Jerusalem. These Europeans gained nothing from these wars except for ideas and the bubonic plague, a disease that killed one third of Europe.

If Pope Urban II hadn't sent his soldiers on the Crusades, then Europe wouldn't be the same. Europe wouldn't be able to gain ideas and inventions from the Middle East. Without a spark for new ideas, events like the Renaissance and Reformation would have never come around. Europe would have stayed behind and never become a continental power like it is today.

 Renaissance & Reformation

As Europe's gloomy period of Medieval age began to die down, Europe began to enter a period of "rebirth" also known as the Renaissance. Many of the smart people of Europe began to look at Classical ideas. Great inventors and artists came up during this period like Leonardo Da Vinci who painted the Mona Lisa and The Last Supper. International trade between the world grew and everyone began sharing their ideas and inventions. Europe's lifestyle improved from a gloomy mood to a joyous mood. A man named Gutenberg invented a printing press that allowed to print more copies of a single book. This led to many commoners to find out how the Roman Catholic Church was sort of cheating them. Many followers split from the church and created other forms of the church such protestant and orthodox. These acts were called the Reformation.

If Gutenberg hadn't invented the printing press, then the majority of people wouldn't be able to read. People would be able to have a personal copy of the bible. Therefore civilians would never learn that the Roman Catholic Church. Events like the Reformation wouldn't never come around and the Roman Catholic Church would still be in control.

 The Enlightenment & Revolutions

The Renaissance woke up Europe from their intellectual sleep, in which many great philosophers came during the Enlightenment such as Rousseau, Descartes, Diderot, Newton, Locke, Montesquieu, and Voltaire. Each of these made their own major contribution to their subject. Their ideas influenced people around the world especially in France and the Americas. in the Americas, people were tired of Great Britain's taxation without representation through which they explained through grievances in The Declaration of Independence. The actions of the Americans were closely followed by the French and colonies in Latin America.

If the Enlightenment ideas hadn't been embraced by the colonists, then countries like the U.S and French would have never built such a stable form of government. The U.S's influence over other countries around the world wouldn't have ever existed. Therefore leaving many countries without the help of the U.S to keep communism out of their country. The economy might have worsened since a poor government goes hand in hand with the economy. The U.S wouldn't be where it is right now as the world's superpower.

 World War I

World War I was the first clash of war among the globe. The war was caused by imperialism and the killing of Arch Duke Franz Ferdinand would change the world and trust between countries forever. The war helped end many monarchies and democracy's arose and power was shifted to the people. The war help put an end to the Soviet Union and establish a republic for them. The war also established nationalism and gave citizens assurance that they're problems would be taken care of. Technology was also at all time highs and brought alliances that would indeed help in the next war.

If Germany had not been blamed for the war there would have been a good chance the second war wouldn't have happened. The Germans wouldn't have felt disrespected and feel the need to get revenge. The blame going on Germany also brought their economy into danger and brought them in to gloomy times leaving them vulnerable to anybody who wanted to step up and lead them. Therefore Hitler stepped up and lead Germany to a second world war that could have been avoided.

 World War II

After the Treaty of Versailles was made to bring peace to Europe, it created a sense of revenge for Germany for being blamed for the whole war. The Germans slowly began to bully other countries like Poland and take over their lands. Soon after, Great Britain and the allied powers declared war on Germany, Italy, and Japan. Germany's Nazi party of fascism beliefs led by Adolf Hitler slowly took control of Europe while the were conquering in Asia. Germany blamed all Jews for WWI,so therefore they sent all Jews to concentration camps other wise known as the Holocaust. Soon Japan bombed pearl harbor which brought the U.S into WWII. Shortly after the U.S, U.K, U.S.S.R, and France brought down Germany and Japan after the U.S dropped the atomic bomb on Japan.

If the British and the French had not used appeasement as their foreign policy towards Germany, then they wouldn't have allowed Germany to lowly gain power in the inter war years. the British and French would have immediately shut down the Germans. Military technology such as submarines, bombs, and planes might not have been created or improved. World War II might not have ever existed and millions of lives would have been saved.

 Cold War

The Cold War was from 1945 - 1991 in between the U.S and the U.S.S.R. Shots were never fired between one another but instead threats were made with some of the world's most powerful weapons such as the Hydrogen Bomb. It had become a race for Russia to spread it's communism and for the U.S to spread it's democracy around the world through the Truman Doctrine. There was close attacks on each such as the Cuban Missile Crisis where Cuba had several nukes pointed a the U.S. There was also a space race between the Soviets and Americans to have the first satellite in space, first machine on the moon, or to have the first man land on the moon.

If the Soviets had landed on the moon first then they would have basically won the space race. Americans would have a sense of a lost of a major battle in this long war. it would have made the U.S.S.R seem like a more powerful world power than the U.S.They would be considered the leaders and pioneers of the space discoveries and accomplishments.
