FC: A Torn Nation | By: Hamaad Najam
1: Robert E. Lee | Robert E. Lee was born in Virginia (a slave state) and he thought slavery was wrong. His family hated the Union and in favor of seceding. He was very famous in the United States Army so he had to choose whether to be a general for the Confederacy or the Union. He had to choose between his love for his home and his beliefs. He decided to be Confederate general and shaped the outcome of the war.
2: Free From the Chains | The end of slavery was started when the Emancipation Proclamation was approved by Abraham Lincoln. It was a direct order to free all slaves. In places that the Union did not control slaves were still kept so it wasn't a big victory for abolitionists.
3: Beardsley Telegraph | The Beardsley Telegraph was a way for the Union to send messages with electronic signals. The signals moved a metal arrow through electrical charges which pointed to letters spelling out the message.
4: The Amendments | 13'th amendment: This amendment was the complete abolishment of slavery. 14'th amendment:This amendment stated the rights of citizens. 15'th amendment:This amendment stated that everyone could vote including African American's.
5: War Life | Life during the war was very different for the North compared to the South. The South did have factories but it had very few compared to plantations. They had a very rural lifestyle. The North had mostly factories and were very industrial. Economy on both sides were getting hurt by the war
6: The End of the Civil War | The Civil War was eventually won by the Union and the President Abraham Lincoln succeeded in keeping the country together. Slavery was abolished and the Confederacy lost to the Union. The South was not happy but it was bound to happen since had the North had so much more of everything.
