S: Heather & Ambrose's Adoption Profile
FC: Heather & Ambrose
We are Heather & Ambrose, and we are committed to offering your child a life of unconditional love and nurturing. We cannot begin to imagine how difficult this path is for you, and we can only hope that our letter might provide some encouragement and hope as you travel this way. We also look forward to staying in touch with you, if that is your wish, and sharing pictures and information about your child. We believe that he or she should always know and feel your love and we will do everything we can to make sure of that. We hope that this profile book gives you an idea of who we are, the things that are important to us, the things we enjoy doing, and what the life of your child would be like if you choose us to parent your child. | Welcome!
We met in seventh grade, and traveled through high school together. Our parents are good friends, so we were often together at family gatherings. Heather always thought Ambrose was a bit of a dork, and wanted nothing to do with him; it wasn't until Heather went away to college, that we really became friends, and that friendship led to romance. | Our Story | November 7, 2003
We started dating in the summer of 1998, and got engaged in the fall of 2002. Heather's aunt married us a year later, on November 7, 2003. We waited a few years before trying to start a family, wanting to settle into our lives first, but were thrilled to find out we were expecting a baby, due early 2008. The pregnancy went well, and we were overjoyed to welcome a son! Heather had a very difficult time with the birth, however, and had to have a hysterectomy shortly after our son was born. We both have siblings, and wanted that bond for our son, so we were devastated that we couldn't have any more children on our own. We immediately turned to adoption as a way to expand our family when the time came. We have several friends who were adopted, and Heather has two adopted cousins, so it was a natural choice for us.
Heather is a very affectionate, nurturing, and caring person. She has worked with children since she was a teenager, first babysitting, then as a camp counselor, and finally as a teacher and children's librarian. You could say she's been "training" to be a mom ever since she was little! She enjoys reading, baking, scrapbooking, traveling, and exploring the outdoors. Heather is very family-oriented, and loves to spend time with our families and close friends. She loves being a mom, and can't wait to expand our family through adoption!
Ambrose is very creative, and always has a project (or three!) that he's working on, whether it's woodworking or building terrain for the tabletop wargames he plays. He works at Disney World as a stage technician, and is handy around the house, installing lights, or fixing plumbing (his least favorite). Ambrose loves to be outdoors, whether it's grilling on the patio, taking our son for a bike ride, hiking, rafting, or playing paintball. He's outgoing, hardworking, always up for an adventure, and can't wait to try new things. As a father, he is very affectionate, patient, and a wonderful teacher; he is a great dad!
Rhys | Our son, Rhys, was born on January 5, 2008. He loves playing with trains, going to the playground, and having stories read to him. Rhys has a very sunny personality, and brings us so much joy! We know that having another child will double that joy, and we want Rhys to have a sibling to bond with. He can't wait to be a big brother!
Coraline & Emma We have two cats who provide us endless hours of amusement & companionship. Coraline (Cora for short) was rescued from a storm drain after a hurricane 6 years ago as a kitten. Emma joined our family a year later from a neighbor's home. Although they look almost identical, their personalities are very different! Cora is very dignified and aloof, while Emma is a total clown who loves to snuggle, and play with our son. We love our kitties!
Although we live far from our family, we are very close and visit several times each year. Luckily, our parents live just 5 minutes from each other, and they are good friends, which makes our holidays and other visits extra special. We fly up every Christmas, and also for special events like Ambrose's grandmother's 90th birthday, or Heather's mom's 60th birthday. We usually spend Thanksgiving with Heather's extended family (aunts, uncles, cousins), or Ambrose's extended family. We alternate years so that we get to see everyone. Heather's mom also visits us twice each year. Heather's brother is married with two boys, and they live close to our parents so we see them often, too. We love to spend time with our nephews, and especially love to see our son playing with his cousins. | Family
60th Birthday Bash! | Three cousins...can't wait for the newest addition! | Christmas with Heather's Family
Ambrose has one brother who lives in New York, one brother who lives in Florida, and one sister who lives in New Mexico, who has a daughter. Since they all live in different states, we don't get to see them as often as we would like, but we do keep in touch with pictures, email, and the phone as much as possible. They all know about our plan to adopt, and are very supportive. | Ambrose's sister & brothers | Ambrose's Family
Friends | We have friends near our parents, near our home, and scattered in between. Since we live close to Disney, many of our out of town friends & family come to visit the theme parks throughout the year with their children, which is a lovely way to spend time with them. We also like to host informal gatherings for our friends, attend local events with them, or just go out to dinner together. We have an amazing support group of friends, who stand in for our family since they're far away. Several of our local friends have children the same age or younger than Rhys, and we love to get the kids together to play!
Where We Live... | Our house | Our patio | Local park
We live in a great neighborhood, and our community has many family-oriented activities throughout the year. From Easter Egg Hunts, fireworks displays for Fourth of July, fall festivals and pumpkin patches, to holiday light displays and meeting Santa, there are fun things to do all year 'round! There is a rail-trail nearby, where we love to bike or walk, and Disney is just a short drive away--what a great way to spend the day! We are looking forward to sharing all these experiences and more with our next child! The schools in our town are some of the best in the area, and we're confident they will provide a great education for our children.
A few of our Favorite Things | Baking Christmas cookies | Sledding | Going for a bike ride | Playing on the playground
Reading is something that we enjoy and value as a family. Heather is a children's librarian, and we have always been passionate readers. We have encouraged a love of books in our son from an early age, and plan to continue the tradition of reading with our next child. | Read to Me
We love to travel and explore new places. Heather is fluent in French, and has several close friends who live in France. We visited them in Paris (left) and Brittany (right) in 2006, before our son was born, and we can't wait to go back. Some of our other favorite places to visit are Key West and the hot air balloon festival in Taos, New Mexico. We're excited to share the world with our children!
Warmest wishes on your adoption journey ~ Heather, Ambrose, & Rhys | We hope, now that you've gotten to know us a bit, you feel that we would be a good fit. Whatever decisions you make in the future, we hope they will be ones that bring you peace. | Looking Forward | We want our children to be raised much like we were - in a loving, supportive home. | We will teach our children as much as we can about life, about what it means to be a family, and most importantly about love. We will be their biggest fans, helping them to fulfill their dreams.
