Find Your Wings It's only for a moment you are mine to hold The plans that heaven has for you Will all too soon unfold So many different prayers I'll pray For all that you might do But most of all I want to know That you're walking in the truth And if I never told you I want you to know That as I watch you grow I pray that God would fill your heart with dreams And that faith gives you the courage To dare to do great things I'm here for you whatever this life brings So let my love give you roots And help you find your wings May passion be the wind That leads you through your days And may conviction keep you strong Guide you on your way May there be many moments That make your life so sweet Oh, but more than memories I pray that God would fill your heart with dreams And that faith gives you the courage To dare to do great things I'm here for you whatever this life brings So let my love give you roots And help you find your wings It's not living if you don't reach for the sky I'll have tears as you take off But I'll cheer as you fly I pray that God would fill your heart with dreams And that faith gives you the courage To dare to do great things I'm here for you whatever this life brings So let my love give you roots And help you find your wings
Here Comes the Bride, Here Comes the Bride. Here comes the Bride, All Dressed in White
I Will Be Here Tomorrow morning if you wake up And the sun does not appear I, I will be here If in the dark we lose sight of love Hold my hand and have no fear Cause I, I will be here I will be here When you feel like being quiet When you need to speak your mind I will listen And I will be here When the laughter turns to crying Through the winning, losing and trying We'll be together Cause I will be here Tomorrow morning if you wake up And the future is unclear I, I will be here As sure as seasons are made for change Our lifetimes are made for years So I, I will be here I will be here And you can cry on my shoulder When the mirror tells us we're older I will hold you And I will be here To watch you grow in beauty And tell you all the things you are to me I will be here I will be true to the promise I have made To you and to the One who gave you to me I, I will be here And just as sure as seasons are made for change Our lifetimes are made for years So I, I will be here We'll be together I will be here
With this ring, I do thee wed. And with all my worldy goods, I thee endow. In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen
I pronounce you husband and wife You may kiss your bride
The Prayer I pray you'll be our eyes, and watch us where we go, And help us to be wise, in times when we don't know Let this be our prayer, as we go our way Lead us to a place, guide us with your grace To a place where we'll be safe... I pray we'll find your light And hold it in our hearts When stars go out each night Let this be our prayer, when shadows fill our day Lead us to a place Guide us with your grace Give us faith so we'll be safe We ask that life be kind And watch us from above We hope each soul will find Another soul to love Let this be our prayer Just like every child Give us faith so we'll be safe
Matthew was a great Master of Ceremonies. He made everyone laugh with a few jokes. "One time, I asked Dad, "tell me what marriage is like...you know, for us guys". He said, "Matt, marriage is kind of like the lottery. Except in the lottery, at least you have a slight chance!" "If you want to make sure you never forget an anniversary or a birthday, all you have to do is forget one and you'll never forget one again!"
And now, I can now introduce to you Mr. and Mrs. Nathan Bartel
Welcome to the Married Life Congratulations Nathan, you've found a lovely bride. It never could have happened to a nicer guy. The wedding's almost over, it all ends way too soon. Here is what you can expect after the honeymoon. It's goodbye football, baseball, you can sell your hockey gear. A ball and chain around your neck, is what you're going to wear. We really did try to warn you, but you wouldn't take our advice. So welcome, welcome to the married life. We hear you love the weekends, simply to relax. That brown eyed little Mrs., will put an end to that. Your friends say you're in prison, but that's not really so. Prison life is better 'cause at least you get parol. It's goodbye football, baseball, you can sell your hockey gear. A ball and chain around your neck, is what you're going to wear. We really did try to warn you, but you wouldn't take our advice. So welcome, welcome to the married life. Just when you get adjusted, the next thing you will hear. "Honey call the doctor, cause I think I'm pregnant dear." Then it's hello dirty diapers, Nathan don't foget who's boss. Once you do the dishes, be sure you start a wash. We really did try to warn you, but you wouldn't take our advice. So welcome, welcome to the married life. So welcome, welcome to the married life.
Thank you. It's sure my pleasure to be here, hailing from Alberta. Let's all bow and we'll pray together. Father, I thank you so much for the privilege to be here today to celebrate Nathan and Jenn's special day. And Father, I pray your blessing upon their lives. Lord, I also pray that you would bless this time that we celebrate. Lord, that we would be drawn closer to You and to friendships and family. And Lord, that you would bless this food and that you would strengthen us and give us just a close presence to You. For I pray in Jesus' name, Amen.
How many roads must a man drive down, Before he admits he is lost. Why when a man becomes married is he, Unable to find his own socks? How many times will it take 'til he knows, He sat and relaxed long enough? The answer my friend, I cannot comprehend, The answer I cannot comprehend. How many shows can a man surf through, Before the remote burns out? Why does he think that an intimate gift, Is a Dustbuster Plus for the house? How many sounds can a man's body make, Before he sleeps on the couch? The answer my friend is take two aspirin, The answer is take two aspirin. Why when we go for a romantic drive, We end up at the golf store again? How many nights will he leave the seat up So I land on the cold porcelain? How men really feel is a mystery to me, And probably a mystery to them. The answer girlfriend we cannot comprehend, The answer is try not murder him.
Love is something if you give it away, give it away, give it away, Love is something if you give it away, you end up having more! Jacob: What do you call two spiders who just got married? All: I don't know?! Jacob: Newleywebs! It's just like a lucky penny, hold on tight and you won't have any. Lend it, spend it, you'll have so many they'll roll all over the floor. Love is something if you give it away, give it away, give it away, Love is something if you give it away, you'll end up having more!
L is for the way you look at me O is for the only one I see V is very, very extraordinary E is even more than anyone that I adore! And love is all that I can give to you, Love is more than just a game for two! Two in love can make it Take my heart and please don't break it. Love was made for me and you!
Toast to the Bridesmaids As you all know, I'm Nathan's younger, but much taller brother Keenan. I have a bunch of funny stories about Nathan, and for those of you who would like to give me a few dollars, I'd be happy to tell you a few of them! I'm standing here right now, to toast Jenn's beautiful bridesmaids. I don't know them really well, but they look really good! *Wink* They've really been there for Jenn and Nathan. I know they appreciate your love and support and will continue to be blessed by your friendship as they start this new life together. Ladies and Gentlemen, please raise your glasses to the bridesmaids.
The Bridegroom's Lament Oh, give me a home for my family to roam, Darn country's so big and so wide. Can't figure what's best, the East or the West, Don't matter if Jenn's by my side. Oh, woe is me, says Jenn as she watches T.V. I'm filled up to here with Naslund and Kesleer, Dear Nathan, please focus on me. Oh Lee, Dan and Matt and my best man Keenan, My possee in you I depend. To keep me upright, 'cause I stayed up all night, Looking forward to my cruise with Jenn. Oh, woe is me, spiders hang low from that tree. Yet from now to the end, I'll protect and defend, The love of my life Sweet Jenny!
Grow Old With You I wanna make you smile whenever you're sad Carry you around when your arthritis is bad All I wanna do is grow old with you. I'll get you medicine when your tummy aches Build you a fire when the furnace breaks It could be so nice growing old with you. I'll miss you, I'll kiss you Give you my coat when you are cold. Need you, feed you Even let you hold the remote control. Let me do the dishes in our kitchen sink Put you to bed when you've had too much to drink I could be the girl who grows old with you. I wanna grow old with you! Dan: And Nathan, on behalf of all your groomsmen, we just want to say that you're a very lucky guy to have found a girl that can do all that for you!
Toast to the Bride First of all, I want to count it a privilege and an honor to be asked to give the toast to the bride. I've known Jenn for the past 23 years. Our families have grown up together. From holding her at the Grace Maternity Hospital on May 6, 1985 to watching her blow the candles out on just about every birthday cake since. I watched as she and my daughter Laura readied themselves at Nanny Yeadon's one September morning to begin their academic journey together. It was day one at Central Spryfield Elementary..don't forget your roots! I observed her as she took part in school Christmas concerts, and family gatherings. I'll always remember one Mother's Day at Full Gospel when Jenn stood on a chair behind the pulpit and eloquently read a moving but funny tribute to her Mother. I think she was about six years old. She was bold and fearless; she's never been shy. But then time played a trick on me; She was graduating from high school with a scholarship to the Mount. And I could hardly catch my breath, and she's graduating from the Mount with a Bachelor of Business Administration. And she's on the Dean's list...and I don't just mean her fathers. She's now smarter than he is! Wasn't long before the next set of events sent mixed emotions through the family. Jenn lands a gem of a job with Imperial Oil, but it's in Calgary; what good can come of this!? So, a beautiful young woman who's now in the oil business and far far away meets handsome young Prince Nathan Bartel. And they fall hard. It's like a fairy tale, but this is the real thing. Which brings us here today. Yesterday, I celebrated 27 years of marital bliss with my wonderful wife Carol. And my prayer today is that you will be as happy and be as in love with each other after 27 years as I am with my wife Carol. Ladies and Gentleman will you rise and take your glasses. Before you today is a beautiful, intelligent, successful bride who has been guided by her Christian principles and ethics and is now starting the next phase of life's journey with her Prince Nathan. Please join me as we toast to the bride.
Good evening Laides and Gentlemen. This is a very important day for me (second only to my stag). So I'm sure you'll understand if I'm a little nervous. After all, it's only natural. Marriage is a pretty big step, and these days, you have to be careful what you step in. So... Jenn and I met at church, and right away it was her sexy good looks that attracted me to her. I took her on several dates (none of which impressed her...if you want to know more, you can talk to her). So, I kind of illustrated that my game was a little rusty. Everything I did seemed to be digging myself into a deeper grave; so I had to get out of that. And I finally said "little baby steps...let's start with a good one-liner". So, I remember we were out and walking and I said "you know Jenn, you're a really great catch". And she said "thanks", and just walks away! So I was like "oh...". But then I remember what she had said earlier when we had met. She said she wanted a guy to really go after her heart. And if she was worth it, then she should be worth it all the way. So I stepped up my game, and I turned on the charm and the persistence, and here we are! No, seriously though. I feel very fortunate that Jenn came to Calgary and persisted through all the terrible dates to fall truly madly deeply in love with me. She makes me laugh, and she is seriously the kindest person you'll ever meet probably. If you've ever received a thank-you card from her, she's pretty good at doing that kind of stuff. And she's the only person I know who will send letters over the mail. Who does that anymore? She does that. So, she's great. And, I just want to say she is beautiful inside and out, and Mr. and Mrs. Clarke, you should be proud of the fact that you've raised a fantastic daughter. And Jenn, I love you lots, all the time, forever and ever.
After the video clip from My Big Fat Greek Wedding Dad: Well, I did get some of those questions answered after that. Is he a good boy, is he from a good family, and is he respectful. Nathan has really become a part of us over the last couple of years. Even at a distance, the times that we've had to share together, a couple of summers and a Christmas, and it's almost like he came and instantly fit in as one of us. And we're not exactly the easiest group of people to fit in with! Once he realized that we take shots at everyone, and he wasn't used to that, he fit in just fine. Nathan's been very very respectable. He's been a great addition to our small family, and we've had great times together in very short times, both in Calgary skiing and on the East Coast doing the things that we do here. He's very very much become a very strong part of the family in a very short time. We're really welcoming Nathan this day to our family, and I think our family is even a little bit better because Nathan has come. Mom: We did come today to welcome Nathan to the family. We're so happy. We've met the Bartels and are just thrilled. Jenn wanted me to fly out for a shower, and I said, "Absolutely not! I can't come across the country for a shower". So she said, "I'm asking Dad". So, true story, I'm on a plane flying across the country for a shower. And when I got there, I went over to Bev and Glenn's daughter's home and they were the most welcoming family. And I came home and I was crying and I said to Dean, "It's so comforting to know that Jenn's on the other coast, but she has such a loving family that cares for her so much and loves her." So I want to thank the Bartels for your warm and friendly spirit from the West Coast and Nathan we love you dearly.
Nathan came and asked me about some papers he had misplaced. He called Jenn, and a short time later, we heard him say, with great love to Jenn, "You are amazing!". Eileen, Keenan and myself think that you're amazing too, Jenn. And, both of our extended families, they think that you're amazing as well. We are honored to have you in our family, and we welcome you with love. We thank Dean and Gloria for this wonderful wedding, and we have appreciated the warmth of your Eastern hospitality. We thank our family and friends who have travelled to celebrate with us. You are loved and appreciated. Thank you very much.
