FC: Laila Freyde's story (the French Jewess)
1: Laila Freyde was born on September 12th 1921 in Paris, France. | She was a very happy and playful baby.
2: Her father was Etan Freyde. Her mother was Yona Freyde.
3: She had two brothers named Caleb and Oren and one sister named Rina.
4: Laila's family portrait when she was six.
5: Laila had a wonderful childhood. Her family was very religious and went to Synagogue every week. Her family was also very observant, they suspected what was to come. She had many friends. Laila was very pretty and greatly resembled her mother. She was well known for her looks. Laila was also taught German by her father.
6: One day while Laila was walking downtown, two German soldiers seized her.
7: They tied her arms and legs up and threw her in the back of a truck. They brought Laila to a train station for deportation.
8: Laila had false identity papers hidden on her personal body which luckily weren't taken by the Germans. These papers said she wasn't Jewish but, Aryan. These helped her get assigned to a forced labor unit.
9: In 1944 Laila was sent to the Buchenwald concentration camp in Poland. She worked very hard, with very little food, in a depot, a warehouse for electrical parts.
10: The Auschwitz and Lodz concentrations camps were very hard to survive.
11: After working at Buchenwald, Laila found out her brother Caleb and her sister Rina had both died at Auschwitz in 1943. In 1951, Laila was finally reunited with her other brother Oren who was sent to Lodz. Sadly, she never found out what had happened to her parents.
12: After the war, Laila moved to America to live with some distant cousins of her mother's. She never did marry. Laila Freyde died peacefully in her sleep, at the age of 77 on Monday, July 8th 1998.
