FC: Rocks explained
Igneous rock: pg3 Sedimentary rock: pg5 Metamorphic rock: pg7
Igneous Rock is formed when different rocks are melted beneath Earth's surface. When the liquid rock (magma) seeps onto the surface and cools. It can be broken down. When it hardens it forms sedimentary rock. When pressure is applied and heat, it morphs forming metamorphic rock. | Surgical knife made of obsidian
granite counter top | Basalt, a major component of asphalt
limestone chalk | Sedimentary rock forms when rock is weathered and eroded. The pieces then build up and harden, forming new rock. When sedimentary rocks are heated and squeezed it morphs forming metamorphic rock. When it is melted and cooled, it forms Igneous rock.
 Coal train sandstone headstone
Marble statue | Metamorphic rock is formed when different types of rock are heated and transform (morph). | Meromorphic rock can be melted and cooled, then it is an Igneous rock. It can also be broken down. When it hardens it form sedimentary rock.
 Graphite pencil | Slate shingles
