3: John Steinbeck was born in Salinas, Ca February 27, 1902 - December 20, 1968 He wrote a total of 27 books.He received a Nobel Prize in Literature in 1962. He is of German and Irish decent. He had two children and was married twice.
4: Kino lived in an extremely poor village on the outskirts of town. Around his home not much vegetation was inhabited the area. He lived by the ocean and had to hunt to feed his family.
5: The doctor being a very wealth man, lived in a upbeat elegant house. Bougainvillea is planted and grown symbolizing the doctor's wealth.

10: Kino and Juana's baby, Coyotitio, was stung by a scorpion. Trying to protect their baby, Kino And Juana took Coyotito to the doctor's house. When the doctor made up and excuse not to see them due to being out on a serious case, Kino became angry and punched the gate. | CHAPTER 1
11: Kino and Juana prepare the canoes for the voyage. Juana stays in the canoe with the injured infant while Kino shuffles in the sand for oysters. He finds many regular oysters. Before he returns to the surface, he finds a larger oyster and has a good feeling about it. Juana watches Kino cautiously watches Kino open the largest oyster and find a pearl. Instantly the poison starts receding out of the baby's shoulder. | CHAPTER 2
12: Word goes around fast in the small town that Kino has found the Great Pearl. The neighbors acted happy for the family but were secretly jealous. When asked what he would do with his new found fortune, he begins to daydream. His daydreaming causes bad luck. the doctor comes to treat the baby. Later in the night, the baby becomes very ill. When things go bump in the night, Juana knows the pearl is evil. When she asks Kino to get rid of it, all he can think about is his daydreams and the money. Kino is convinced that once the pearl is sold all the bad luck will disappear and only good will remain. | CHAPTER 3
13: Kino goes out looking for a pearl buyer. The pearl buyers try to convince him the pearl was worthless, but Kino refused to believe it. Not being offered a high enough bid, Kino plans to go to the capital. Later that night, Kino is attacked by something unknown. Even though Kino knows the pearl is putting his family in peril, he insists on keeping the pearl until he can go to the capital.Juana still has an uneasy feeling about the pearl. | C H A P T E R | 4
14: Kino catches Juana trying to get rid of the pearl. As Juana drags herself to her feet, Kino is in the woods being attacked. His attacker does not get away. Kino hits him so hard he dies. Even after murdering a man, Kino can still only think of the pearl. Kino goes down to the beach to escape nut dicovers the bottom of is boat is knocked out. Juana finds the house being burned down. With nowhere to go, the hopeless family goes to Juan Tomas's house. | CHAPTER 5
15: Kino and Juana continue to run from the trackers. They are both scared, but Juana seems to only be scared for Coyotito. When Kino tells Juana to hide, she refuses. hiding in a cave in the mountains, they make plans to escape the trackers. they fear the baby may cry and give them away. When the trackers mistake Coyotito's cry for a coyote, they shoot him. The family returns to the town and know they have to get rid of something. Kino throws the pearl into the ocean. | CHAPTER 6
