FC: CARNIVAL CRUISE MARCH 6 - 13, 2011 COZUMEL BELIZE ISLA ROATAN GRAND CAYMAN
I always wanted to go on a cruise, but never had anyone to go with me. Betty Seidl from work said she would go. We had a great time
MIAMI FLORIDA | We arrived at the Miami airport on time and met the Carnival staff. Once on the bus, we found out that there was an accident causing a delay. | Thankfully, we made it in time to board the ship. The photo area was already closed down, so Betty quickly snapped my photo as we hurried through.
Anchors Away | Leaving port. We went to one of the upper decks to go outside to do the traditional wave. It was cool and VERY windy. | Good Bye Miami
OUR ROOM | The room was quite comfortable. Betty and I had plenty of room for all of our luggage. The two windows were very nice to look out and watch the waves..
EVER DAY WHEN THE CREW CAME TO CLEAN THE ROOM, THEY WOULD LEAVE A NEW TOWEL SCULPTURE. SOME DAYS, IT WAS A LITTLE HARDER TO FIGURE OUT THAN ON OTHER DAYS.
AFTER A FULL DAY AT SEA, OURFIRST PORT OF CALL IS COZUMEL MEXICO | OUR SHIP - THE CARNIVAL GLORY IN THE BACKGROUND.
We went on the Mayan ruins and the beach trip excursion. We met our guide Ruben at the port. He is from the Mayan heritage. He said all of the mayan people were short, around 5 ft. He was very informative about the history of the Mayan ruins and of the way they lived and how things were done. | MARCH 8, 2011
There was always 7 steps to every mayan home and the entrance always faced the south. This had to do with the equinox calendar.
The Mayans believed in human sacrifice. It was a religious event. The person, offered themselves to be given a better life. It wan an honor. | Many times, when people died, they were buried in the home and a tomb was built around them. They were normally located on the corners of the home.
BEACH TOUR It was Absolutely beautiful. We were told not to go in because the waters were rough that day. We did anyway. It was COLD .
We took a bus trip to the beach after viewing the ruins. We ate at the restaurant on the beach and then explored the beach
MARCH 9, 2011 ISLA ROTAN We went on an excursion of Tubing through the caves. We were not allowed to take our cameras and did not have our waterproof camera with us. | The guide had to do all of the work, we just sat in the tubes and floated down the river. In shallow areas, we had to lift our butts to keep from hitting bottom. Yes, we had to wear a life vest. | MARCH 9, 2011 BELIZE
During the tour, we learned that the caves were a place that the Mayans used to perform human sacrifices. | As the bus was driving out to the excursion site, I took some pictures out the window. It was very overgrown and a dense jungle like atmosphere.
LIFE ON BOARD SHIP | The lobby is the first thing you see when boarding the ship. The ceiling was continually changing colors. There was a grand piano with a player at certain hours. There was also a lounge area, a bar and the service desk.
Wandering around the ship, we would find photo ops. There was just so much to do and not enough time. No pictures were allowed in the casino area - sneak photo to the left.
The endless hallway from our room. We joked that it was the never ending hall. | We ate in the Platinum dining room. These pics were taken after our day at the beach. (A little red.)
AMBER PALACE | Amber Palace is where the shows were held. We saw a magician, a music and dance show and went to see the hypnotist twice. | No cameras were allowed in the shows
MARCH 10, 2011 ISLA ROATAN, HONDURAS We did not have any excursions scheduled today. We spent the day at the beach and shopping. The water was clear and beautiful and so warm. The beach was packed. It was towel to towel sitting. There were several ships docked at the same"port.""
MAHOGANY BEACH | We ported and had to walk to the beach. It was a bit of a walk, but nice. Some used the lift from port to the beach. | The walk was landscaped with all sorts of flowers and paths. There was also places for photo opportunities. In the shopping area, there was a covered section to sit. That is where the musicians were playing - in photo.
STINGRAY SANDBAR This was the most exciting part of the trip. Actually in the water with the rays. They would come from behind and bump you. I even kissed one for good luck and then got a back rub. I held one - They are rough on top but very smooth on the bottom.
MARCH 11, 2011 GRAND CAYMAN, CAYMAN ISLANDS | This is the day the earthquake hit Japan. It did effect some of the excursions. Not ours. | TURTLE FARM One of the few turtle conservation centers. It is unlawful to hunt or / kill the turtles. The guide was telling that Americans were allowed to kill cows, but they were not allowed to eat the turtles. Not happy about it.
HELL | We stopped in the town of hell. We were not there for very long. I got post cards sent off to family. I have been to hell and back.
An end to the perfect day. One of the Pirate ships was passing by our ship. You can see the people standing on deck. Such a beautiful site. So, Pirates of the Carribean.
 MIAMI FLORIDA AIRPORT
