BC: Adversity causes some to break, and others to break records. | When you lose a couple of times, it makes you realize how difficult it is to win. | Basketball doesn't build character it reveals it. | It is how you show up at the showdown that counts.

10: The Bay State Jaguars U12 girls basketball team captured its first national championship at the Nike U.S. Junior Nationals in Washington, D.C., on July 25-29. The highly skilled Jaguars rising eighth-grade team dispatched opponent after opponent as they went undefeated on their way to the championship. The girls faced off against some of the toughest competition in the country, facing teams from New York, Michigan, New Jersey, Virginia, Tennessee, among others. In the semifinal, the Jaguars defeated the Virginia Division I state champion, The Black Widows, 43-38. The Jaguars held a 22-20 lead at the half, but came out for the second half with a new defensive game plan that completely stifled the Boo Williams offense, as the Jaguars pulled away and claimed the national championship with a 44-29 victory.
