52: The Andover Cyclones of the Mid States League took their win-streak, spanning four seasons and 38 games, to Olathe, Kansas to face the FCCJC's Blue Valley Northwest Titans. As the game began, jaws dropped in the visiting Cyclone's stands. The opposing team's massive size and violent hits were shocking and intimidating. With three players over six-feet tall and several pushing 200 lbs., the boys from Blue Valley far out-sized the Cyclones. Mike VanArsdale was sorely missed. Big Mike, Andover's largest lineman, was out of the lineup due to a broken thumb. | CYCLONES BATTLE TO FINISH UNBEATEN | Olathe, Kan. -- | SPORTS | _________________________ | WWW.KANSAS.COM/SPORTS SUNDAY, NOVERMBER 6, 2011 | 1C | The exhausted Cyclones gathered around their coaches for words of inspiration. Few words were spoken and the coaches left the young men "to do whatever you need to do to get yourself and your teammates up for this second half." Whatever the players did or said during the break worked. | Before the end of quarter one, Cyclones leading rusher, Brent Alfaro, was knocked out of the game with a devastating hit that led to a concussion. Run options were limited, as the team's other running back, Mitchell Allison, was out with a season-ending broken collar bone. In addition to losses in rushing personnel, Cyclones defensive end, Carson Penny, was banged up and left the game with minor injuries. After a grueling 20 minutes, the team from Andover was relieved to take a zero to zero tie into half time. | The Cyclones kicked off to start the second half and set up their defense. On first down, Blue Valley NW was stopped for a short gain by Elliott Langhofer, Jack Steiner and Big Ben Smith. Tave Friesen and Kyle Hsiao shut down the Titans on a second down sweep. | Brent Alfaro outruns the Titan defenders | Kyle Hsiao & Jack Steiner make it difficult for the Titan offense to gain yards

53: Andover's Austin Zellers flies into the Blue Valley Northwest backfield followed by the Cyclone's defense. | _________________________ | THE WICHITA EAGLE - SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 6, 2011 WWW.KANSAS.COM | 2C | On third, Grant Staehr crashed from the right side and Stratton Stamp assisted on the stop to set up the Titans for fourth and two. Right defensive tackle, Austin Zellers, busted through the Blue Valley NW offensive line and Steiner rushed in from the left edge to meet Zellers at the ball and drop the Titans for zero gain. The Titans turned the ball over the downs to set up "the drive." | The Cyclones started the drive with the ball on their own 48 yard line. Quarterback, Sammy Hardin, put the offense in shotgun and followed two lead blockers through a hole blown open by linemen, Isaac Rozario and Jarrett McKnight, for five scrappy yards. On the next down, Hardin again took a shotgun snap and busted forward behind Ben Johnsen and Griffin Baker for a short two yard gain. Fullback, Matthew Annett, go the call on the third down and followed center Hunter O'Connor's block for two more yards, setting up a critical fourth and once on the Titan's 43. A run play was called in from the sideline and Hardin set up in shotgun.

54: Story by: Steve Hardin, Head Coach and Offensive Coordinator | SPORTS | _________________________ | WWW.KANSAS.COM/SPORTS SUNDAY, NOVERMBER 6, 2011 | 3C | Cyclones, from page 2C | Looking at a goal-line defense with safeties in run support, Hardin changed the call at the line of scrimmage. Jason Thompson went in motion and at the snap, Stratton Stamp blocked for a count and ran a perfect seam route behind the linebackers and under the free safety. Hardin delivered a strike advancing the offense to the 17 yard line. On the first play inside the red zone, Hardin's rush attempt was stuffed after just one yard. Next, Hardin went in motion, fullback Jack Steiner took a wild cat snap and cut off of Tyler Knolla's block on the left side for three more yards. On third down, Hardin sprinted right out of shotgun and slung a 12 yard dart to Steiner on the sideline. The Cyclones sat first and goal on the one yard line. After unsuccessful run attempts on first and second downs, the offense set up with two receivers split wide. On a quick count, Hardin kept the ball and took a quarterback sneak left of surging center O'Connor for a Cyclones' touchdown. | Sammy Hardin, Cyclone's Quarterback | Stratton Stramp runs the ball | Kale Rishel & Elliott Langhofer with the tackle | Stratton Stamp

55: For the remainder of the game, Andover's offense kept the ball on the ground and the Titans committed two key penalties to help the Cyclone's grind the clock. The Cyclone's defense held the Blue Valley team to just three first downs in the second half. Linebackers Tulro Friesen and Jeremy Fraiser and a rotation of fresh defensive tackles, like Jake Smith, limited the Titans' chances of breaking any long runs. Kale Rishel and Jackson Lewallen provided excellent pass coverage to stave off a Titans last ditch effort and a Steiner interception sealed the game's fate. | _________________________ | THE WICHITA EAGLE - SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 6, 2011 WWW.KANSAS.COM | The Cyclones' quarterback took a knee to run down the time and the players began to celebrate.
