BC: The End! | BY: Raygan Kilby
FC: DIVERGENT ABC SCRAPBOOK
 Divergent ABC Scrapbook
Eric completes against Four for strength and power. | Peter competes with every one of the dauntless initiates to get the top ranking spot; but mostly focuses on Tris because she is his biggest threat. | A.
Jeanine Matthews messes with the divergent people and threatens Tris on several occasions. | A. | The Erudite completely and utterly hate the Abnegation. They send out crud reports and and articles about the Abnegation to try to turn the rest of the factions against them.
In future Chicago there is a young girl by the name of Beatrice Prior. She is a part of one of five factions within the city. She recently turned sixteen which means she must go through the choosing ceremony. This is where every sixteen year old from all five factions must choose if they will stay with their born faction or become a faction transfer. Beatrice got an odd result on her aptitude test which makes her decision all the more difficult. She must choose between Abnegation, Erudite, and Dauntless, and she knows that this one decision will change her life forever. So, which one will she choose??
The climax of this story would be when the battle take place. It starts when the entire dauntless compound wakes up under a simulation. There are many events within the climax that make you feel many different emotions. When Tris shoots Eric in the foot you feel a sense of pride and fear for Tris. You feel fear when she is in the tank drowning at the Erudite compound. You feel accomplishment and safeness when she destroys the computers and saves Four. The climax of this story continues over into the next book. | C.
 D. | Beatrice Prior ‘Tris’- born Abnegation but never felt the part. Sixteen years old and loves to watch the Dauntless. She wishes for a more exciting and daring life. At the choosing ceremony Beatrice must choose between Erudite, Dauntless, and Abnegation because she is divergent. | Four- eighteen year old Dauntless initiate trainer, he was ranked first in his initiate class but turned down the offer to become a Dauntless leader. Four has a secret that could change the way people treat him. | Eric- Dauntless leader at 18, He was ranked second in his initiate class behind Four. He is mean, cruel, and may not me a true Dauntless. | Peter- Initiate in Tris’ class. He is very mean, cruel, and wants to be the best. Always find him hanging out with his buddies in initiation until something happens that changes everything. | Christina- she was born Candor but transferred to Dauntless, and becomes Tris’ best friend. She is good during initiation, but not the best. She always has a sense of humor.
Will- he was born Erudite but transferred to dauntless, he is strong, smart, and caring. He becomes on of Tris’ best friends an something a little more to Christiana. | Albert ‘Al’- born Candor but transferred to Dauntless. Could be ranked first in initiation but is scarred to hurt people. He also has a crush on Tris that is hopeless. | Tori- tattoo artist in the dauntless headquarters born Erudite transferred to dauntless. She also gave Tris her aptitude test and is the one to tell Tris that she is divergent. | Jeanine Matthews- leader of the Erudite, writes articles packed full of lies about the Abnegation and the Prior’s because she hates them. She may seem like a harmless journalist until you find out what she is capable of. | Caleb- Tris’ brother, born Abnegation but transferred to Erudite. This shocked everyone and almost caused Tris to stay abnegation to save her family’s pride.
 E. | The first and second chapters of Divergent is the exposition and is mainly focused on Tris and Caleb. The exposition tells you that Tris was good in school and tried very hard to be just as selfless as her family. She found that very hard to do. She wanted to be able to see herself in the mirror and to live a life free and fun. According to the exposition, Caleb is the perfect example of an Abnegation. He often has to correct Tris by reminding her of the Abnegation expectations. He always puts others first and never speaks out of turn. This is why his transfer shocked everyone.
 F. | One example of figurative language would be imagery. In the book there is a scene where Tris and Four are climbing an old "broken" ferris wheel on the navy pier in Chicago. The diction the author uses clearly describes the emotions she is feeling and her surroundings. You can "hear" the creaking of the rungs as she climes and the wind whistling in her ears. You literally feel like you are there with her. | Personification: "every organ and vessel and muscle in my body singing at the same pitch."
 G. | There are many possible endings to the story, but this is the one I believe that is most plausible. At the end Tris comes face to face with Four. Four is under a simulation that didn't get injected into Tris. He cant hear of really comprehend that it is Tris before him. He is“controlling” the simulation that the entire Dauntless population is under. He pulls his gun on Tris, but instead of fighting back she lowers to her knees and begs for him to see that it is her in front of him. At the last second he wakes up and realizes what he was about to do. He ends up lowering the gun and they destroy the simulation. The book ends with the entire city in an uproar; and Tris, Caleb, Four, Peter, and Marcus running for safety at the Amity headquarters which is outside the fence that encloses the city. My alternate ending would be that Four didn't wake up from the simulation until he shot Tris seeing her dead before him is what woke him. Then he would shut down the simulation. Finally I imagine him killing himself because he can't bear to live without Tris.
 H. | Dear Al, I am a friend of Tris’. I know exactly how she works. She was Abnegation so she does not know how to show affection to others very well. Also she will most likely find it a little weird and uncomfortable that someone likes her. So if you want to let her know you like her, you should let it on slowly so you do not overwhelm her. Start of by complementing her and telling her she looks nice. Then you could maybe tell her that you will help her with her fighting. That will most defiantly spike her interest in you. Then you two could start to hang out as friends. You need to make your friendship strong before you even let on that you like her. Now some things that to know about Tris, She likes to have fun and to laugh but she may try to hide it due to the abnegation in her. Also she doesn't grow to people easily. I know that she will like you as long as you can handle her wild and sensitive sides. Good luck Al! Raygan
I chose to draw my alternate cover like this for many reasons. The main reason was to imitate the choosing ceremony which takes place at the beginning of the book, and it also sets up the story.
 J. | This book is amazing. It is most defiantly a must read for teens. Divergent used many different figurative elements that keep you on your toes. The main characters are very easy to relate to as well. With them being in their teens to falling in love, they go through many of the same challenges we do. This book is also very suspenseful and involves a lot of surprises. Another thing is that you could be so happy and proud of a character then in the nest paragraph you may want to slap them! This book is for both girls and boys which makes it an even better teen read. When you start to read divergent, you won't be able to put it down, trust me. You wont be able to finish Divergent without continuing on to the second book in the trilogy. I promise you, there are many more surprises within this book that you won't see coming!!!!
 K. | 1-Did the book end as you expected? A- No, the book did not end the way I expected. I thought that the book would end happy with Tris and Four together and the faction complete. I never expected there to be a war within the factions and the city to be torn apart. | 2- How would the book have been different if it had taken place in a different time or place? A- Most defiantly, the book would be completely different. Of course, it would be the plot but you wouldn't be able to have many of the details within the book if it took place here in Danville rather than in Chicago. Also the time this book took place makes the story complete. If it took place in an earlier time there wouldn't be any of the technology that must be included in the story and without it the plot wouldn't make sense. | 3-What character could you relate best to? A- I think I could relate best to Christina. I am very energetic and happy and love to have fun. Christina is the same way and she also loves to hang out with her friends.
4-How did the main character change during the book? A- Tris was the character that changed most within the book In the beginning she was shy, weak, and tried her hardest to be unnoticed and selfless. When she transferred to Dauntless she became strong both mentally and physically. She also started to think about herself a little more and actually made some friends. She started to show affection towards people and she learned to stand up for herself! | 5-What are the five factions? There are five factions that are spread throughout the city of Chicago. Four of the factions are within the Gate and the last is outside. The four within the Gate are the Abnegation the selfless, Erudite the intelligent, Dauntless the brave, and Candor the honest. The one faction outside the Gate is the Amity the peaceful. | 6. Are their any sequels? A- Yes, Insurgent is the second book within the trilogy and it came out this past May. The third book is set to come out by next spring.
K.(cont.) | 7-What is the initiation? A-You go through initiation at every faction and every one is different. Dauntless initiation has three stages. Stage one is the strength portion. You learn to fight, shoot a gun, and to protect yourself. Stage two is fears. You face your fears through simulations, and the simulations do not end until you can lower your heart rate and calm down. The third stage of initiation is the landscape room. This is a room where you are aware that it is a simulation and you literally face your fears in a landscape. | 8-What is the theme of the book? A- The theme of the book would be that just one choice can change everything. | 9-Did the actions of the characters seem plausible? Why? Why not? A-Yes, I believe that the actions were plausible. I believe that the characters had to do what they did in order to survive. They were also taught to act this way and that they were expected to act the way they did.
10-In a movie version, who would play what parts? A- In the movie I think that Annasophia Robb would play Beatrice Prior; Max Irons would play Four; Alexander Ludwig would play Peter; Criss Angel would play Eric; Logan Lerman would play Caleb; Lucas Till would play Will; Tiffany Hines would play Christiana; Meryl Streep would play Jeanine Matthews; Lizzy Caplan would playTori; Cameron Diaz would Mrs. Prior; Brian McGovern would play Mr. Prior; Mike O’Malley would play Marcus; and Kellan Lutz would play Albert. (left to right for photos)
 L. | The biggest lesson I learned from the book was what the theme states one choice can change everything. This is so true from what Tris had to face, to choosing to pass the ball in a basketball game. Tris could have chosen to stay with her family and live the life she was expected to live, but chose otherwise. She realized that the choice she made changed her life forever. This taught me a major lesson to always think about the pros and cons of my decision whichever way I choose to go!
 M. | One personal connection that I made with the book would be Tris’ aptitude test result for Erudite. I like to consider myself as a somewhat smart person and I like to learn. New information makes me feel like I can achieve anything and be anything I want to be. | Another personal connection I made with the book was the fact that Tris chose to be Dauntless. I like adventure and taking risks just like Tris does.
 N. | Divergent is told in Tris’ point of view, which is first person point of view. This helps the book in many ways. With it being told in Tris’ perspective we can experience the feelings she is having and how difficult or easy it is to learn something. It helps the reader understand the story and the setting more by being in first position.
I am selfish. I am brave."
 O. | On August 19, 2075 Beatrice ‘Tris’ Prior died in the attack simulation. She was sixteen years of age at the time of her death. She lived at the Dauntless headquarters here within the city. She was born Abnegation to her parents Andrew and Natalie Prior. She grew up as a happy child with her brother Caleb Prior. She was not married but in a relationship with Tobias ‘Four’ Eaton. She was just inducted as a member to the Dauntless and was ranked first in her initiation class. She is survived by her Brother Caleb Prior, her late parents Andrew and Natalie Prior, and her boyfriend Tobias Eaton. Her service will be held at the Dauntless headquarters in front of the Chasm on August 20, 2075 at 8:00 pm. The Dauntless leader Eric will be speaking. She would want to remind you that one choice changes everything.
 P. | The protagonist within the book are Tris, Four, and the Abnegation. They all are working towards unity and peace between the factions. Tris and Four also try to make peace between the initiates at the Dauntless headquarters.
 Q. | "She smirks. 'No wonder you left' 'Yea,' I say, rolling my eyes. 'it was just because of the food.” Roth, Veronica. Divergent. New York: Katherine Tegen, 2011. 47. Print. -I love this quote because it shows that there is still humor amongst the friends even though they are going a rough time.
“Can you be a girl for a few seconds' 'I'm always a girl.' I frown. 'You know what I mean. Like a silly, annoying girl.' I twirl my hair around my finger. 'Kay!” Roth, Veronica. Divergent. New York: Katherine Tegen, 2011. 222. Print. -This is another one of my favorite quotes because it also shows that they can have a since of humor, but it also shows Tris' development as a character. In the beginning of the book she would have never been able to do this, she would have seen it as selfish.
 R. | The resolution of Divergent is plain and simple. The resolution would be when Tris and Tobias shut down the simulation.
 S. | The wind is stronger now. I press closer to the white support so I don't fall, but that makes it hard to climb. Below me the carousel looks small. I can barely see my team under the awning. Some of them are missing- a search party must have left. Four says, ' It's supposed to be a priority. It used to be.' But I'm not really listening, because the height is dizzying. My hands hurt from holding the rungs, and my legs are shaking, but I'm not sure why. It isn't the height that scares me-the height makes me feel alive with energy, every organ and vessel and muscle in my body singing at the same pitch. Then I realize what it is. It's him. Something about him makes me feel like I am about to fall. Or turn to liquid. Or burst into flames. Roth, Veronica. Divergent. New York: Katherine Tegen, 2011. ch14. Print.
This passage is a dialog between Tris and Four. The diction that the author uses truly uses sensory detail. You can imagine how her hands feel on the rungs, how she feels when she looks down and the height is dizzying, and how she feels when she thinks and hears Four talk. This is one of the most sensory detailed passages within the book
 T. | Tris' I-Pod: 1-Ours by Taylor Swift: Describes her relationship with Four 2-Eyes Open by Taylor Swift: Symbolizes what she has to go through during initiation 3-All This Time by Brit Nicole: Shows how Four has always been there to protect her 4-Over You by Miranda Lambert: Describes Her feelings about her parents death and her brothers betrayal 5-Nothing to Remember by Neko Case: Describes her life before she was Dauntless
"Ours" Elevator buttons and morning air Strangers' silence makes me want to take the stairs If you were here we'd laugh about their vacant stares But right now my time is theirs Seems like there's always someone who disapproves They'll judge it like they know about me and you And the verdict comes from those with nothing else to do The jury's out, my choice is you So don't you worry your pretty little mind People throw rocks at things that shine And life makes love look hard The stakes are high, the water's rough But this love is ours You never know what people have up their sleeves Ghosts from your past gonna jump out at me Lurking in the shadows with their lip gloss smiles But I don't care 'cause right now you're mine And you'll say Don't you worry your pretty little mind People throw rocks at things that shine And life makes love look hard The stakes are high, the water's rough But this love is ours nd it's not theirs to speculate If it's wrong and Your hands are tough | But they are where mine belong and I'll fight their doubt and give you faith With this song for you 'Cause I love the gap between your teeth And I love the riddles that you speak And any snide remarks from my father about your tattoos will be ignored 'Cause my heart is yours So don't you worry your pretty little mind People throw rocks at things that shine And life makes love look hard Don't you worry your pretty little mind People throw rocks at things that shine But they can't take what's ours They can't take what's ours The stakes are high, the water's rough But this love is ours
 T. | "Eyes Open" Everybody's waiting Everybody's watching Even when you're sleeping Keep your ey-eyes open The tricky thing Is yesterday we were just children Playing soldiers Just pretending Dreaming dreams with happy endings In backyards, winning battles with our wooden swords But now we've stepped into a cruel world Where everybody stands and keeps score Keep your eyes open Everybody's waiting for you to breakdown Everybody's watching to see the fallout Even when you're sleeping, sleeping Keep your ey-eyes open X3 So here you are, two steps ahead and staying on guard Every lesson forms a new scar | They never thought you'd make it this far But turn around (turn around), oh they've surrounded you It's a showdown (showdown) and nobody comes to save you now But you've got something they don't Yeah you've got something they don't You've just gotta keep your eyes open Everybody's waiting for you to breakdown Everybody's watching to see the fallout Even when you're sleeping, sleeping Keep your ey-eyes open Keep your ey-eyes open Keep your ey-eyes Keep your feet ready Heartbeat steady Keep your eyes open Keep your aim locked The night goes dark Keep your eyes open (Keep your eyes open [4x]) Everybody's waiting for you to breakdown Everybody's watching to see the fallout Even when you're sleeping, sleeping Keep your ey-eyes open X5
"All This Time" I remember the moment, I remember the pain I was only a girl, but I grew up that day Tears were falling I know You saw me Hiding there in my bedroom, so alone I was doing my best, trying to be strong No one to turn to That's when I met You All this time, from the first tear cried 'Till today's sunrise And every single moment between You were there, You were always there It was You and I You've been walking with me all this time Ooh, oh, oohh Ooh, oh, oohh You've been walking with me all this time Ever since that day, it's been clear to me That no matter what comes, You will never leave I know You're for me And You're a story Every heartache and failure, every broken dream You're the God who sees, the God who rescued me This is my story This is my story | All this time, from the first tear cried 'Till today's sunrise And every single moment between You were there, You were always there It was You and I You've been walking with me all this time Ooh, oh, oohh Ooh, oh, oohh You've been walking with me all this timeI hear these people asking me How do I know what I believe Well, I'm not the same me, and that's all the proof I need I found love, I found Your grace You stole my heart that day (Ooh, oh, oohh) Oh,woah (Ooh, oh, oohh) You've been walking with me all this time All this time, from the first tear cried 'Till today's sunrise And every single moment between You were there, You were always there It was You and I You've been walking with me all this time Ever since the first tear cried It was You, You and I You've been walking with me all this time Ever since the first tear cried It was You, You and I You've been walking with me all this time
 T. | "Over You" Weather man said it's gonna snow By now I should be used to the cold Mid-February shouldn't be so scary It was only December I still remember the presents, the tree, you and me But you went away How dare you? I miss you They say I’ll be OK But I’m not going to ever get over you Living alone here in this place I think of you, and I’m not afraid Your favorite records make me feel better | Cause you sing along With every song I know you didn't mean to give them to me But you went away How dare you? I miss you They say I'll be OK But I’m not going to ever get over you It really sinks in, you know, when I see it in stone Cause you went away, How dare you? I miss you They say I’ll be OK But I’m not going to ever get over you
"Nothing To Remember" I spent my life becoming invisible It’s hard to maintain and it’s hard to get by I don’t recall, fight or flight setting in I had no introduction I just breathe it in like the air And there’s nothing to remember There is nothing to remember I owe you nothing That’s all I’ve got for you And you’ll borrow nothing That’s what you expect of me So you send me a love Out of thin sailor’s knots And I fear underneath the weight of your thoughts My footsteps now they won’t echo too loudly All I own All I own Are the strides I spend to the finish line All I own All I own | Are the strides I spend to the finish line And I’ll give you those You told me something that scared me to death Don’t take me home I can’t face that yet I’m ashamed that I’m barely human And I’m ashamed that I don’t have a heart you can break I’m just action And other times reaction All I own All I own Are the strides I spend to the finish line All I own All I own Are the strides I spend to the finish line And I’ll give you those Just don’t make me go home Give me something to remember Give me something to remember Give me something to remember
 U. | The author of Divergent and Insurgent is Veronica Roth. | Her fans have asked her if she could choose a faction which one would it be? She said she would choose Dauntless because of their bravery and exciting lifestyles.
Veronica is 23 years old and has been writing for the past 12 years of her life. | She studied creative writing at Northwestern University, and wrote Divergent, while she was supposed to be doing homework
 V. | 1-What is it like to be divergent? –is it hard to hide it and how would it make her feel to know she's different | 2-What is school like? – to know if it has changed much from our school now | 3-Are there restaurants for any other factions?- I know there wouldn't be for abnegation but would there be for any other faction and just to see how similar their life is to ours | TRIS:
5-How long have the factions existed?- to know how long people have lived like this | 4-Is there any form of money?- In Dauntless they use “points” but I want to know if any one else uses physical money
 W. | Truth | Love
 Danger | Adrenalin | Love
 X. | Technically none of the characters have xenophobia, buts some of the factions do. | Four doesn't like many abnegation but will interact with them. This is only because of his history with the abnegation though.
The Erudite literally HATE the abnegation. They will do anything and everything within their power to destroy them.
 Y. | The factions were formed due to the separation among the people of why they believe the government was falling apart. The people separated into groups and those groups became the factions. They all decided that the Abnegations would be the new government because of their selflessness.
The Amity are farmers, they are the ones who send the fresh food to the factions within the city; their symbol is a tree. The Abnegation are the ones who are selfless, they believe in putting others first and they try to be invisible; their symbol is helping hands. The Dauntless are the ones that are supposed to be the protectors of the city and are also seen as the wreck less and dangerous ones; their symbol is fire. The Erudite are the doctors, the teachers, and the scientists. They are the smart ones of the factions and their symbol is the eye. Finally the last faction is the Condor. The Candor are the honest ones of the factions, they can't lie and they believe that honesty is the best policy so to speak; their symbol are balancing scales
 Z. | There are many zingers throughout this book, and honestly I could see most of them coming. There was one zinger though that really caught me of guard.
The zinger that shocked me the most was the fact that Four was a transfer from Abnegation. His dad is Marcus Eaton who holds a high seat in the government. People remember his son Tobias Eaton who transfered to Dauntless to get away from his abusive father. Towards the middle of the book Four reveals that his real name is Tobias Eaton and that Four was a nickname. He got his nickname because he only has four fears and one of those fears is his father.
