BC: Key Continued I also chose the event of how Esperanza wanted to eat lunch at school because she thought that it was the cool thing to do. It ended up that she did not enjoy it at all and that she spent her whole lunch crying. The last event I chose was when Esperanza went to the carnival with Sally who was a very pretty girl and was doing "things" with another guy while Esperanza waited. That was when a man came and took Esperanza and touched her in wrong places and I inferred that she was raped by this man.
FC: As made Famous By: Stuart Blank | The Secret Journal of Esperanza Written By: Esperanza
1: Dear Journal, Today my aunt died and this is one of the poems I used to read her. She always listened to whatever I wrote and one day she told me, "You just remember to keep writing, Esperanza. You must keep writing." I did not know what she meant by this when she told me, but I told her yes, I will. I pasted a poem I read to her on the next page so you can enjoy it to, journal.
2: I want to be like the waves on the sea, like the clouds on the wind, but I'm me. One day I'll jump out of my skin. I'll shake the sky like a hundred violins.
3: Dear Journal, This is my house on Mango Street. Its not the house I wanted, it has bricks that are crumpling in places and my whole family has to share the same washroom.
4: Dear Journal, Today I wanted to run around in the garden with everyone else, but the kids my age say that I am to old to be doing that. I just want to get out of Mango Street and show the world what I can do. | Dear Journal, Today I wanted to run around in the garden with everyone else, but the kids my age say that I am to old to be doing that. 7: Dear Journal, Today I went to the carnival with Sally. I was waiting for her by the red clown, and a man came by a wouldn't stop touching me. He wouldn't stop and told me "I love you, I love you spanish girl."
8: Key In the book a young girl, Esperanza, goes through life on Mango Street. I picked out some main events that occured in the story and pretended to be Esperanza and wrote what I thought she would say about each of the events. I chose the house because Esperanza wants to live in a house with three washrooms. I chose the garden because she enjoys the garden very much, and I chose the three women because they tell Esperanza what she must do in her future.
