31: Artist Statement: | My name is Sarah Butsko and I am a Sophomore at New Albany High School. I am currently in a semester course called Introduction to Digital Photography. When I signed up for this course I had, had little experience in photography. I took pictures with a cheap, little digital camera before and messed around on a program called GIMP, but I never had any formal training. When I started in the class we learned about the anatomy of a camera and then the various scenes and adjustments you could make before taking a picture. We also learned about Photoshop. Starting out we picked a photography goal of what we wanted to end up making at the end of the semester. The goal I had was a vintage theme.
32: I had seen this theme used a lot on blog sites, especially Tumblr. I absolutely love this style and wanted desperately to be able to make it myself. Throughout this photography course we had many photo-shoots and I could see myself capturing images that were pleasing to the eye and looked like the professional photos I had always wanted to be capable of. Once I had gained many, many skills and tricks of editing and taking pictures it was time to display my art. This is what the portfolio is for, to show the improvements I have made by showing what I am capable of. The photos I have selected to display in this have an overall vintage and lomo theme to them. I am extremely proud of what I have learned thus far and what I am capable of doing. Photography has become a huge hobby of mine now. I've purchased my own "fancy" digital camera and have started applying what I've learned to edit
33: images at home. Photography is way for me to express myself. I am able to express what I am feeling through the various emotions I can capture in a scene and effects I can add to pictures. Photography is a great choice because not only can you express yourself but you can also capture moments in time that you will never be able to get back. Once you have captured that image, you will always be able to look back at it and remember the memories that come with it. Photographs are like a time capsule of moments in time. Taking the Introduction to Digital Photography course has been an amazing decision and I am so glad I have learned what I have.
