Enjoying an afternoon at home in the spring of '09
Chicago | During SCS's winter break in February '09 we headed to Chi-Town for a quick getaway. We went to both the Planetarium and the Field Museum. For fun at night we went to Dave and Buster's to play arcade games and eat dinner. You can see that Flat Stanley made the trip with us, he is wearing his MTI shirt courtesy of your artistry.
We spent this holiday in town again. Another good egg hunt at Grandma and Grandpa Adams' house...did you find the Big Pink Egg this year? The photo on the right shows you frantically looking through all your eggs to see how much money you "earned". I think this may be the only picture with you wearing a Penguins t-shirt! | Easter '09
Maui 2009 Grand Wailea Resort Luau Surfing water volleyball with Joe Montana's family snorkeling day trip Longhis
East Side Little League Farm League '09 | This was your last season in machine pitch. Your regular season team only suffered one loss...the last game of the season. Great Job!
The team helping you celebrate your first out of the park homerun! | Batting Average: 0.907 Slugging Percentage: 1.465* At Bats: 43 Runs: 30* Hits: 39 1B -17 2B -21* HR -1 K -0** RBIs: 26 * Led the team **Tied for Lead
Our First Garden We decided to see if any of us had a green thumb this spring. We had an area dug out in the dog yard and planted our first garden. Zucchini, strawberries, cucumbers, peppers, snap peas, watermelon and herbs. We also decided to start composting all of our food waste - we are trying to do our part to help the environment. You and Lily were VERY helpful with the planting and weeding. I appreciate that you embraced and supported my idea! | Your First Play These are some photos from your first stage performance at Stanley Clark. Mrs. King's second grade class put on the play The Reluctant Dragon and you were St. George, the knight that was going to slay the supposedly evil dragon. As with everything, you took this very seriously, you memorized your lines and knocked it out of the park! (your old Halloween costume came in handy too)
Second Grade Olympic Day 2009 | Relative race with Lily | You and your buddy Nick Harman | The three legged race with Daoud Haque
Summer 2006 | Another "first" for you this summer. You completed your first official, organized running race. We ran the Sunburst 5K on June 6th. You finished in 30:52.40. I was making you hold up for the first 2 miles because I wanted to make sure you could finish strong, but with a mile to go I realized you had more than enough endurance so I turned you loose .Wow, you were off! Your friend from baseball and church Christian Henry also ran with his mom Angie. We all had a great time and expect to do more races. | lacrosse has become a fun hobby for you | Farm camp with Michael Schroeder Springhill Church Camp (at GCC) with Lily
In August we took a trip down to Cincinnati to visit Grandma and Grandpa Lumpkin. These photos were taken at the Creation Museum in Kentucky. It was a great place that brought the pages of the Bible to life. We enjoyed going through all the indoor exhibits and their beautiful gardens outside. The earth is the LORD's and everything in it, the world, and all who live in it; for he founded it upon the seas and established it upon the waters. Psalm 24:1-2
Beachwalk 2009 The four of us spent 5 days up on Lake Michigan. We rented a house and had a great time. We got to drive around the community in a golf cart, Dad even taught you how to drive. We played TONS of whiffle ball, Frisbee in the ocean, tennis, swam in the pool, got crazy on the playground and played Clue every night before bed. What a great getaway near the end of summer.
 Height = 56 inches Weight = 77 lbs
How are you already 9 years old? You are growing up so fast and we are so proud of the young man you are becoming. You are so passionate about life, you are a fantastic big brother, you have a heart for Jesus and you are just so fun! As you can see from the photos your gifts pretty much revolve around hockey and Notre Dame football - your two biggest loves. Your birthday dinner was homemade meatballs and pasta. One big change you made this past year is you no longer eat sweets so there is no cake. You are trying to keep your body as healthy as possible and you think sugar is bad (I definitely disagree but oh well....) Happy birthday buddy!
Irish Rovers Squirt AA | This was a big year for you. It was your first year on the AA team for IYHL and you were playing with kids 2 years older. This was a great group of boys, coaches and families. We all had a fun season! Carson Brown was the other goalie and his | dad was your head coach. They were both so good to you in your first year at this level of hockey. The team had a fantastic season and the photos on the opposite page are from the 5-1 win over Glenview which was one of your best games ever! We are so proud of how hard you work.
Here's to another great year at Stanley Clark. Your teacher, Mrs. Crossen, is amazing. She understands you so well and is able to focus your energy in a positive way and get the best out of you every day. You won both the CML (Continental Math League) and WordMasters awards this year for your grade. Since you still aren't eating candy trick-or-treating is a thing of the past :( However, carving pumpkins is still cool so you had Dad carve your hockey team's name and your jersey number this year. | Third Grade
Christmas 2009 | Santa was good to you again this year! You received your first, personalized Bible, a New Jersey Devils practice jersey for hockey, catcher's gear for baseball and you and Dad got fur hats to keep you warm traveling to and from the rink this season. Your big gift was two tickets to an NHL game on New Years Eve - the Devils playing the Blackhawks in Chicago. You and Dad will have a blast. You and Lily also received a ping | pong table so look out for some major family competition!
New Jersey Devils vs. Chicago Blackhawks United Center December 31, 2009 | Your favorite player is Martin Brodeur, he is in his 18th season with the New Jersey Devils. He became the winningest goaltender of all time in March of this year, which could be why you like him so much. Unfortunately, they lost this night 1-5. At least you got to spend some time with your school friends Nick and Blake Harman who happened to be at the game too!
The ice rink FINALLY worked! Dad has tried to build a rink in the backyard for 3 winters in a row and this time he did it. It is quite large and you, Lily and your friends all enjoy using it. | snow mouse | hockey stick and tiara...compromise?
International Silver Stick Forest, Ontario January 22-24, 2010 | holding the "silver stick" with Jordan Linsey, Jacob Hoexum and Max Saavedra | Our first trip to Canada: POOL PLAY Irish vs. Lambton Shores 2-1 W Irish vs. Powassan 10-1 W Irish vs. Greensboro 2-3 L in OT SEMI-FINAL Irish vs. Lukin 3-1 W CHAMPIONSHIP Irish vs. Ridgetown Rebels 5-1 W You boys played awesome and brought home the Championship Win. Great hockey and fun times!
Avery Brown's sign | NIHL Championship Game February 6, 2010 | 0-1 loss but still a fantastic season
In February 2010 we took our first family ski & snowboard trip. This was the first time Dad, you and Lily ever tried skiing or snowboarding. We headed up to Boyne Mountain in northern Michigan. We stayed in the Grand Mountain Lodge right at the base of the slopes and enjoyed 3 full days of fun. The first day we took snowboard lessons, the second day we took ski lessons and the third day Lily and I skied and you and Dad went back to the boards. You were a natural on the board and Lily really took off on her skis. This looks like a new favorite pastime for our family! | Boyne
Maui We tried many new things on this trip. On Easter Sunday we got up at 2 a.m. and took a tour bus up 10,023 feet to the top of the Haleakala volcano - after we watched an amazing sunrise we biked down. Awesome. We also took a private guided hike of the west Maui waterfalls. Fantastic sights but terrible mosquito's! We surfed again in Lahania with Mark from Goofy Foot. You and Dad got SCUBA certified so you could explore the underwater world off the hotel's beach. We enjoyed the Grand Wailea's luau outside. We were traveling with Uncle Bob's family and had fun playing on the beach with them and playing cards in the hotel room. On the last day you painted your hockey coconut. This was another fantastic, tropical vacation!
This was your first year in Minor's. The major difference being kid pitch baseball. Your team was in first place at the end of the regular season with an 11-2-2 record. In the post season tournament your team made it to the Championship game but lost to SB Raquet 5-3. Throughout the season you played second base, catcher and even got to pitch some. You REALLY want to be a pitcher. The 9U AllStar team had a lot of fun at the night games in the State Tournament in Schereville. Another great season!
On July 24, 2010 you and Lily completed your first triathlon! We went down to Potawatomi Park for the event. You swam 25 yards, biked 1.3 miles and ran .5 miles. You finished third in your age group and had a great time. Dad and I were so proud of you both.
Springhill Camp '10 | On July 25th I drove you up to Evart, Michigan for your first week of sleep-away church camp. This is the camp our church brings to it's campus every year, it comes highly recommended. However, leaving you there was very hard for me. I left a stack of letters, cards and pictures from family and friends just so you would know how much you are loved back home. You went with an old preschool buddy, Christian Henry. Dad came to get you at the end of the week and quickly learned that you had a blast.! Your counselor, Caleb, said you were a fantastic leader and gave you the character trait of "faith" because you were always eager to participate in Bible study conversations.
Ephesians 2:8-10 For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— not by works, so that no one can boast. For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do. | Your Baptism | August 29, 2010 | Grant we are all so proud of you! Love, Mom, Dad & Lily
 G turns Ten | . | . | . | . | . | . | . | Height: 58.5 inches Weight: 85 lbs
Double digits for you now! You birthday dinner of choice was a bacon cheeseburger from Friday's and the best part of the day (in your mind) was that you had hockey practice. Recently we have been watching the Minute to Win It game show and decided it would be fun to set up several of those challenges at home. The following weekend we had Grandma & Grandpa, Aunt Jenny's family and Uncle Bob's family over and we all competed. What better way to celebrate your birthday than with CoMpEtiTioN :) You can see from your scorecard that you did pretty well. Here's to another great year, we love you Buddy. | Fushigi from Lily | more blocks to build stadiums
Fourth Grade | This is a big year at SCS. The homework load is really tough and you have the "leaf project" to complete. You really like your teacher, Mr Balensiefer. This is his first year at Clark and so far we think he is a perfect match for you! You also went to another Notre Dame football game with Michael Schroeder and when you got home you two played some football of your own. What am I, Mother Nature's Beauty?
You designed (Dad carved) the coolest pumpkin this year...4 Jesus. We love that you have such a heart for God. You and Michael had fun during trick or treating - street hockey with baseball catcher's gear. Classic. | 2010
 Irish Rovers PeeWee AA
The week between Christmas and New Years your team played in the Regional Silver Stick tournament in Addison, IL. You had 2 fantastic games and they happened to be against the same team - the Cyclones from Geneva, IL. In pool play your team beat them with a last second goal (Matty Behr) for a 5-4 W. Then in the semi-final game your team won in overtime 2-1 to make it on to the Finals! The photos to the right were taken by Grandpa Lumpkin during the pool play game. Your teammate hooked a Cyclones player as he was coming in on a breakaway - you stopped the shot but a penalty shot was awarded to the Cyclones. The bottom photo shows you making the save on the penalty shot. Awesome game! | '10 -'11
Sarasota | We went to visit Grandpa & G.G. Long over Thanksgiving break in 2010. Uncle Big and his family flew in too. We had a great time swimming at the pool and playing on the beach over at the Ritz-Carlton Beach Club. One of the coolest things you got to do is play a round of golf with Dad, Grandpa and Uncle Big over on the Ritz' course. Even better was that you had a caddy (Steve) with you for the 18 holes. You played very well, had fun and saw an alligator in one of the water hazards. All you grandkids enjoyed playing the horse racing game with Grandpa back at his place. You, Lily and Lillianna gave a piano concert for everyone. It was a great visit!
We had another great holiday! As a family we have all enjoyed our first full season of skiing/snowboarding. The only injury suffered this year was by you, during one of our Friday afternoon Swiss Valley runs. You were headed down the intermediate hill and while on your toe edge you went down quick and suffered a major face plant. The photo on the other page shows the big lip, nose and scraped up face. Ouch! Luckily this didn't deter you too much and we were able to head to Bittersweet on Christmas Eve and enjoy a day of great skiing. Your favorite gift was a pitching mound - you are looking forward to the Spring now :) Our tree was enormous and you helped Dad drag it out of the field. We were also happy to make one trip to St. Pats park for a great day of tubing, that is always a day filled with a lot of laughs.
Another winning season | For the second year in a row your team won the NIHL President's Cup (finished first in your division) . But again, the team lost in the Championship game. You played 2 of the 3 pool play games and earned the start in the Championship game where you played well. You continue to work hard and give your best every minute you're on the ice, Your passion is inspiring!
 Championship Game | N I H L | Goalie | Rose Ceremony | Laser Show | Joliet | 2-1 L | Penalty Shot | February 26, 2011
You were invited by Steve Dubinsky to play on a Selects hockey team over in Iceland and Finland this Spring. We thought it was a great opportunity not only for you but the whole family! In Iceland you enjoyed the second floor ice rink, meeting all the players on the Iceland Selects team and the off-ice training at the indoor soccer fields. You worked hard with the other Midwest Selects goalie Will Barber and became fast friends with Brady Smith. The geothermal pools of Iceland were amazing, especially the Blue Lagoon. On our Golden Circle tour we hiked to many beautiful waterfalls and experienced a geyser erupt right in front of us. The boat ride from Stockholm to Helsinki was a lot of fun for you boys - 20 boys playing tag on a cruise ship...what could go wrong? Unfortunately the hockey in Finland did not go so well (except for the 12-1 W against the Canadian Blizzards) Your team was definitely undersized. We did like the outdoor market in Finland as it was our only opportunity on the entire trip for fresh fruit, we gobbled up a pound of strawberries in no time. All the families, players and coaches (Steve, Trevor and Sergi) were really nice and it was a learning experience for us all! | Iceland/Finland | Midwest Selects Hockey Tour April 2011
Miami vs. Iroquois 4th Grade | Your first Olympic day at Stanley Clark where you are officially battling for Miami. You weren't feeling so great this day but you pulled through. You won the 50 yard dash, the 3 legged race with your partner VJ and your team won the 200 yard relay. Unfortunately, your leadership on the plank walk didn't result in a victory and worse yet - Miami lost to Iroquois. No worries, you'll get 'em next year. | 3 legged race with buddy V.J. Rougeau
Majors | This was your first year trying out for Majors Baseball. You were drafted onto Barnaby's with Dave Troup as the head coach and Todd Vest and Tyler Glynn as the assistants. You primarily played catcher with some innings in right field. You had a great first season up in Majors and your team won the league. This was your first year of baseball without Michael Schroeder on your team; ironically the only loss your team suffered was by his team, Arnt. The coaching was fantastic and we couldn't have asked for a better team of boys. Your favorite moment was hitting the triple against East Side Irish. | 2011
This was a great All Star season. The team was runner-ups in the Penn Park tournament-after losing to Penn twice in a row during double elimination (ugh!) and then at the end of the summer the team won the East End Mishawaka tournament | You played a lot of second base and some catcher. You really wanted to pitch this year but it didn't happen - Dad definitely thinks your time will come in the next season. It was such a fun season of baseball to watch. This group of boys and parents are awesome! | This summer brought to you by DeMarini
You and your trusty sidekick Michael Schroeder
This was your first year in AAA Hockey. You are playing for a team out of Orland Park, IL called the Chicago Fury. You play in the Tier One Elite Hockey League and the other teams are the Cleveland Barons, Pittsburgh Hornets, Ohio Blue Jackets, Detroit Belle Tire, Detroit Victory Honda, Milwaukee Jr. Admirals and the Madison Capitols. You practice in Chicago 2 days a week which is tough on all of us but you are handling it very well. You are becoming fast friends with your new teammates and enjoying the change immensely!
 Pee Wee Minor 2011-2012
 Happy 11th birthday Grant
Height = 61 inches Weight = 89 lbs | The "theme" for this year's birthday was CUSTOMIZED SHOES. You can see from the photos that you made two pairs. The red and black Reebok's are your hockey shoes and the the Nikes are what you wear to school. Your birthday fell on a Thursday which was hockey practice so we celebrated the day before. You happened to have a cross country race that day and you won 1st place in your age group - HaPpY BiRtHdAy! Afterwards you chose Knollwood's pasta bar for dinner. The following weekend Dad's family (and Michael Schroeder) came over to celebrate. In looking for a group activity I found a Murder Mystery where we all had parts and acted them out...do you remember Uncle Jerry as the French Chef? How about Conrad as the Butler? We had a lot of fun and it was all in honor of you. You have such a passion for life and everything it has to offer. You enrich our lives everyday, Dad and I feel so blessed to be your parents.
SCS Cross Country | This was your first full season of running cross country at Clark. You did a great job in all the meets and worked hard at every practice. Your first race was at John Young, it was a hilly 3K course and the field was made up of mostly 7th and 8th graders. I didn't think you would finish in the top 20, so I had a pep talk with you before the start about not trying to stay with the leaders, running your race, finishing strong etc...as you can see from the results below you had no problem with the pace and proved me VERY wrong! John Young Invitational (3K)12:35 5th Place Larry Morningstar Invitational (2K) 7:33 1st Place Home meet vs. Elkhart Christian (3K) 11:34 2nd Place SCS Invitational (2K) 7:11 1st Place
This is a poem you wrote for your 5th grade English class. The assignment was simply to write in free verse style. | MY KING He is the Savior, the King, the Light, and the only route to Heaven. He died on the cross to forgive us of our sins. He was the only person to never commit a sin, He never gave into temptation, and He was the only person to be resurrected from the dead. He is the one and only Son of God. He is Jesus He is my King
Another big change in school this year. Now you have advisories (Mr. Lund leads yours) and you switch teachers for every class. You have embraced this new level of responsibility and continue to work hard and score well in all your classes. You really enjoyed drama with Ms. Chudzynski and are having a lot of fun playing the saxophone. You and I took Lily to her first Notre Dame football game this fall, a win over Michigan State! Our favorite pumpkin patch closed for business so we found a new location and did our usual carving at home. BIG NEWS: you cleaned, designed and carved your pumpkin completely on your own this year! It was awesome. And since you are a fantastic big brother you even helped Lily with her pumpkin. | Fifth Grade
The weekend before Christmas we headed down to Cincinnati to see Grandma & Grandpa Lumpkin, Aunt Christa's family and Uncle Big's family. You got your Florida "football guys" down there and we played the infamous PRESENT game (picture on the far right) so it was an excellent visit. You received many great gifts this year and displayed your favorites in the photo on the opposite page: BOSU, hockey helmet, Oregon t-shirt and Tim Tebow's autobiography. The day after Christmas we went over to Grandma & Grandpa Adams' house to celebrate. All the grandkids performed individually on the instrument of their choice and you and Conrad even played together. There you received more workout equipment, NHL "hockey guys" and a Harry Potter wand. | Merry Christmas 2011
And the angel said to them, "Fear not, for behold, I bring you good news of a great joy that will be for all the people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord." Luke 2:10-11
Goodbye 2011.... | You and Lily got new ski/snowboard equipment and we were all very excited to hit the local slopes during Clark's Christmas break. However, Mother Nature was not cooperating with her warm temperatures and NO snow. We were so desperate we headed to Bittersweet a few days before break was over (we took your friend Ben Cooper) and skied in less than ideal conditions. Their base was 10" and they were making sticky, yucky snow the whole day. Some of the trails even had grass popping through! We still had fun and you both did great with your new, BIGGER gear.
