FC: The International Leadership Academy for Fort Worth Sister Cities International--My Experience
I facilitated ILA with other students from Swaziland, Mexico and the United States
Delegation leaders also came from each country: Mexico, Italy, China, Japan, Swaziland, Hungary and Indonesia. They attended teaching conferences and assisted in supervising students once team activities were finished.
The majority of our work was focused on allowing student participants to interact in an open and accepting environment.
Each group made team flags in which they created an individual flag that showed their characteristics as leaders. We then combined the flags and created a team name that reflected everyone's character. My team was the Free Eagles.
We held different activities such as minute-to-win-it games, a talent show night and a cultural sharing night for students to mingle and learn.
One night we all attended a play put on by Kids Who Care, a musical theatre company that hosts international children to perform in their company.
We visited community centers and City Hall to present each country's culture.
Overall my experience was incredibly rewarding. I met amazing people who I feel grateful to have been able to spend time with.
