1: In the year 1700 many Germans were fleeing their homeland due to violence. In 1745 there were 45,000 German immigrants living in pennsylvania. Germans Immigrated to the U.S. mainly between 1700's and the early 1800's.
2: Irish immigrants came in two waves the first was in colonial times and the second started in 1845 with the start of the potato famine. Irish immigrants were not warmly welcomed because they were associated with bad living conditions and disease.
3: Most of the Chienese immigratnts came over to the U.S. between 1840 and 1850. They came over with the hope of striking it rich with gold. They found that the gold was in abundance as they heard and could not go back home. Without the Chinese immigrants the transcontinental railroads would not have been finished as fast as they were.
4: Japanese immigrants travelled to the U.S. betweem 1886 and 1911. Many Japanese immigrants traveled to Hawaii first and worked on commercial plantations. Many then fled to the main land to escape the poor working conditions.
5: The first wave of Italian immigrants began in 1820 and ended in 1870. The second wave arrived between 1880 and 1890. One of the reasons the Italians came over was because of disease and natural disaters.
