FC: The great depression lasted 12 years, It started in 1929 and ended in 1941
The great depression started with banks and loaning money, the government said they would bail the banks out if they were in trouble. Hearing this, the banks lent money out to any and everyone knowing the government would bail them out if they didn't get paid back. A lot of people took out loans and played on the stock market, and lost it. People couldn't pay back loans so the bank had less money that was with them. When people got scared and they went to withdraw some of there life savings there was no money for them to withdraw because of the loans.
Life during the great depression was terrible Husband and Wife needed to work around the clock just to buy bread so the family could eat something. Some people went hungry, and most had to sell everything they owned. When I would ask my grandparents about the great depression they would always say that all they could afford was bread and coffee for every meal.
The worst part is that nobody in the United States escaped it, everyone suffered.
The great depression only ended with the United States official agreement to join the World War II.
