FC: Why were the Middle Colonies so successful? | By : Kaelin Toncheff

1: Background Info on The Middle colonies | The start to the middle colonies began when the dutch founded New Netherlands. New Amsterdam was founded in 1625 and became the capital of the colony. In 1664 the English pushed the dutch out of their colonies and renamed the colony New York and gave a portion of this land to two of his friends, naming the land New Jersey.

2: William Penn's influence on the colonies | William Penn was a Quaker. England was not a good place to be for Quakers in the 1660's. William Penn Moved all of the quakers across the Atlantic ocean over to what is now know as Pennsylvania. Even before setting foot in North America he did what most colonist did not do. He decided to make peace with the tribe that was in Pennsylvania already.

3: To make sure that the relationship with the natives worked Penn regulated trade with them and provided a court composed of both colonists and Native Americans to settle any differences that either of them had with each other.When Penn started to need more colonist he advertised in French, German and Dutch. The more colonist came the more the original colonist looked like minorities.

4: Locations and geographic influences the middle colony | Since the Middle colonies are located near the ocean; the trade is very high, economically, in the middle colonies. Unfortunately in 1635 the colonies were hit with a very rough winter. Then in the summer of 1637 many people died of sunstroke. After many people started dieing the colonist went to the natives to have them help them find local herb medacine found in plants.

6: Natural resources used by colonial economics | - Plants - local sea fish - Natives medicine - Trees - Animals

7: Local sea fish were normally eaten by the colonist | plants were used sometimes for natives medicine

8: Economic trade opportunities | -Since the middle colonies had such fertile land they were able to plant many crops -Trees were used to help build houses -Spices were also very high in value in the middle colonies

9: Society in the middle colonies | The Wealthy, Government titles | Small Business owners | Poor White Farmers, Towns people | African Americans Slaves

10: Religious Beliefs | -Dutch Mennonites -French Huguenots -German Baptist -Portuguese Jews -Lutherans -Quakers -The indigenous Indians -African American's had their own religious traditions

11: The Middle Colonies | New York New Jersey Delaware Pennsylvania Maryland
