2: A trip to celebrate fifty years of my parent's marriage with all the love, friendship and adventure it has held. What a delightful reason to travel! Mom and Dad have been wintering in their beloved Puerto Vallarta, Mexico for several years. Like typical snowbirds they leave Canada in early November and don't return again until April. This year, to commemorate their 50th Anniversary, we were all invited to join them for the celebration. The calendar was filled for over a month as family and friends arranged their schedules to come before, during and after the event. Ted and I were fortunate to enjoy ten days with them in sunny PV, three days prior to the celebration and a relaxing week afterwards. Joining us were Christine and Russell, Pauline and Troy, long-time family friends Pauline and Jim Marshall, school chums of Mom & Dad; Bill & Christine Ward, Lethbridge friends Rosemary & Gerald Foder and many of their Mexican friends who they share their winters with. Mom and Dad had rented the spectacular penthouse suite of their condo at the Peninsula. This allowed all the family to stay together and enjoy the spacious living as well as providing a perfect location for the party. Pauline, Troy and Russell had already arrived a few days before and so when Ted, Christine and I arrived they were eager to fit in a few fun-filled days together. We enjoyed a lovely meal in the penthouse on the evening we arrived. It was prepared by a young chef, who is the son of one of Mom & Dad's friends. We were joined by Pauline & Jim Marshall and Bill & Christine Ward. The evening was filled with laughter and stories of their many years together.

3: The next morning Pauline, Russ, 'big' Pauline, Jim, Ted and I went on a whale watching tour. It was incredible! The tour guide, Oscar, was one of the best guides we had ever experienced. The weather was perfect! The humpback whales were preparing to leave the Bay of Banderas in a matter of days, so they were very active. We watched over 25 of them practicing their acrobatic abilities and organizing themselves into their small pods to help them make the journey north. The water and weather was so calm that we were able to travel around the circumference of Los Arcos and photograph the Blue Footed Boobies, Herons and the other wildlife that inhabit the island. The days we were all together were spent simply enjoying time with one another. There is something lovely about waking up with each other in the same space and enjoying breakfast or coffee out on the deck without a schedule, wandering down the Malecon together to pop into the shops, or try a few tequila shots. It was perfect and something I will not soon forget. The party was a worthy celebration on such a momentous occasion. Friends and family gathered, speeches and toasts were given, tears were shed and laughter was bountiful. When we ‘Warren’ girls were asked to give a speech we each wrote three words that best described Mom & Dad’s relationship. The words we all individually came up with were very similar and so our toasts encompassed our thoughts about love (Christine), friendship (Pauline) and adventure (Tania). Mom presented Dad with a beautiful video tribute of their lifetime together and Dad responded with a touching toast to his bride. The evening ended with the magical appearance of a heart shaped cloud that was lit by the moonlight. After the rest of the family departed, Ted & I enjoyed a week of activities and relaxation with Mom, Dad and Pauline & Jim Marshall. We took in the Malecon sculpture tour, a medical pedicure, a mother-daughter massage, trips to the market and a scrumptious food tour that had us eating everything from street vendor food, to tuba drinks on the Malecon, to a wide variety of favourite restaurant spots in the area. There is no question for either of us as to why Mom & Dad enjoy calling Puerto Vallarta their second home. What a lovely trip this was with my hubby to celebrate my parents. I am so thankful for the relationship that he has with my extended family and I’m so honoured to enjoy my own journey of love, friendship and adventure. xoxo
