S: SUMMER 2010 - CALIFORNIA
BC: (AND A GOOD TIME WAS HAD BY ALL)
After 10 months of travel nursing, I decided to take the summer off to play. Two months of food & fun w/friends & family was just what I needed. It was a wonderful summer of recreational travel, cookouts at the lake and porch parties with college friends. I even had a birthday party...and begrudgingly bought my first car.
There is so much to see and do in the Bay Area. It's hard to get it all in. However, I managed to make it to Pier 39, Alcatraz, The Golden Gate, Lombard Street, and the Painted Ladies! Whew! I even took a ride on one of San Francisco's most famous cable cars.
Most people buy themselves a bracelet or a new pair of shoes for their birthday. Not me. Nope. I go big. I bought myself a car!...and HATED every minute of the experience. Long story short, I just happened to wander onto the car lot and find my dream car. Brand new car for a used car price. I cried for 3 days before my father made it simple. "Boo Boo, it ain't goin to get no cheaper." Three solid years of saving and living off of Spaghetti O's gone in an instant. But, how many people can actually pay cash for more than half the cost of their dream car before the age of 30? So, I sold my faithful Betty & brought home... THE EAGLE WAGON.
I came to California after an incredible summer. Not only did I come to work, but I also came for a guy. While the guy didn't last, my memories of Cali will. I drove across the country in 2 days and began my West Coast Adventure.
The apartment wasn't much...526 sq feet. It was a place to rest my head and not much more. But, the view...AMAZING! I walked out of my door one evening just as the sun had set. It took my breath away.
Yosemite National Park has to be one of the most amazing things I've ever experienced. I camped for 2 days with friends and we enjoyed hiking to the top of Vernal Falls to see the Emerald Pool. A 4,000 foot gain in elevation wasn't easy but I've never felt so peaceful after working so hard. God is an amazing artist and I'm blessed to have been so close to his work.
So, it was me, Sillsy (my friend from Austrailia), 3 French girls and 1 Brazilian. They said that they wanted to experience an "American camping trip". Little did they know that I was the last person they needed to teach them what a real camping trip was like. They brought air matresses. I brought a gallon of vodka and taught them how to make smores! We all had a great time & enjoyed the majesty of where we were.
"Be still, and know that I am God. I will be exalted among the nations. I will be exalted in the earth." Psalm 46:10
 FISHERMAN'S WHARF AT MONTERAY BAY
Whale watching in Monterey Bay. Sounds innocent enough? WRONG!!! This was single handedly the WORST idea I've ever had. Sillsy and I arrived to the Wharf just in time to walk down the pier and decide where to eat. We enjoyed watching the local wild life in thier morning play session as we ate breakfast. We then got on the boat that took us 8 miles out (into VERY rough seas) where we both promptly began throwing up everything inside of us. Port side of the boat was for whale watching, while the starbord side was for throwing bait (i.e. throwing up your breakfast burrito). The picture below is the only thing i saw of the whales. I had a WAY better time on the pier. Lesson learned (surprise!) the hard way. It's official. I get motion sick. Thanks Dad.
I found an awesome group of girls that quickly became my saving grace. We always said that no one understands a travel nurse, except a travel nurse. We all stuck together and really looked out for one another. We were all we had. So, we stuck together like glue. We all got together at the local sports bar (Firehouse Grill) to celebrate friendship. FUNDAY SUNDAY!!!
We were so well known at this place, we actually got free drinks this day for allowing them to film us for a commercial. And all we were doing was being our normal selves!
I THANK GOD FOR MY BOO (SILLS). THIS AUSSIE WASTED NO TIME TAKING ME UNDER HER WING. SHE PROVIDED ME FRIENDSHIP AND EMOTIONAL SUPPORT. BEFORE I KNEW IT, I HAD A NEW SISTER TO LOVE.
Cable Car Pub Crawl with Sills... PRICELESS
I don't know how in the HELL she talked me into this. "Ya-Ya Sisterhood" Party, huh?
A night... or 2... out with the girls. Pub crawls in San Jose to mechanical bull riding at the SaddleRack. We were always out to have a good time. And we looked H-O-T doing it!
