1: The call in The Catcher in the Rye is when Holden Caulfield, the hero, is kicked out of Pency Prep school. He wasn't applying himself and was "given the ax"; (Salinger 6) | The Call

2: The refusal of the call in the Catcher in the Rye is when Holden doesn't go to the football game and instead stands on top of a hill and watches everyone cheering at the game. He doesn't accept that he has been kicked out and he was trying to feel a goodbye; (Salinger 7) | Refusal

3: The supernatural aid in Catcher in the Rye is when Holden goes to see Spencer and he gives him a massive lecture about how he should get his life back in order and how he should apply himself; (Salinger 11) | Supernatural Aid

4: The crossing of the first threshold in Catcher in the Rye is when Holden leaves Pency Prep before he was scheduled to; (Salinger 68) | Crossing the First Threshold

5: The belly of the whale is when Holden got on a train to new york city. the train represents this because after he got on the train there was "no turning back" as they say; (Salinger 69) | Belly of the Whale

6: Holden was deciding on whether or not he should go home or stay and wait until the letter gets to his house; (Salinger 77-78) | Road of Trials

7: Meeting With a Goddess | The meeting with the goddess in Catcher in the Rye is where Holden met Ms. Morrow on the train. She held him back from doing things wrong and tried to get him to stay on the right path; (Salinger 70-76)

8: Temptation from the True Path | The temptation for Holden was when he went on the date with Sally. This is a temptation because he went away from his goal just to go on a date with her, and he was convinced he wanted to go live somewhere with her; (Salinger 171)

9: The atonement with the father is when Holden goes to stay the night at professor Antolini's apartment and ends up getting another lecture, making Holden realize that he's nothing like Mr. Antolini; (Salinger 239-244) | Atonement with the Father

10: Apotheosis | When Holden realizes that he can and will apply himself in school is when he reaches his apotheosis. He also decides to go home for Phoebe; (Salinger 267-268)

11: Holden refuses going home by deciding that hes going to leave and go live on his own. He told Phoebe he wasn't going home. (Salinger 257-258) | Refusal of the Return

12: Holden realizes that he wants to go home, and also that he would be willing to apply himself in school the next time. He must also face his parents about the issue with Pency Prep. | Master of Two Worlds
