1: Wetlands Diamond Wallace November 7,2011 Jay.M Robinson High School EES-Mrs. Knight

2: WHAT ARE WETLANDS? | Wetlands are known as low lying ecosystems that saturate with water at a closed surface | There are four main types of wetland Swamps, Marsh, Bogs, & Fens

3: Swamps | Swamps looks as if they are a landscape of a forest with over flooded waters. They are formed from nearby rivers and streams. Swamps are filled with very little grass. The animals that are in swamps are Prothonotary Warblers and Anacondas. Swamp ferm and Bay Tress are two types of plants in a swamp.

5: Marshes Marshes form along coastlines. You can tell a wetland is a marsh because they have very tall grass. You can find a marsh as saltwater, everglades and coastal inlands. Plants:Lilypads and Bulrushes Animals:Otters and Muskrats

7: Bogs Bogs receives most of their water from rainfall and other precipitation. Bogs also have spongy like deposits. They are formed with dry blankets of land and this stops water from leaving. Plants:Pitcherplant and Pocosins Animals:Salamander and Black Bears

9: Fens Fens form wetlands that are made from rainfall and other types of weather that has H2O(water). You can tell a wetland is a fen because it has ridge patterns in a down slope of moving water. Fens can be found in great lakes and rocky mountains. Plants:Wildflowers and Cypripedium

11: Why Are They So Important? Wetlands prevent floods by keeping water in place as if its a sponge. Without them many wild life species will be in danger and their homes as well. What Are We Doing To Help? As wetland are rapidly disappearing and farm area are being flooded and so are animals homes. Many people are trying to make a law to protect wetlands. One way in helping are building dams.
