FC: Global Warming
Global warming is an increase in the average temperature of the earths atmosphere. When the greenhouse gases ( carbon dioxide, water vapors, nitrous oxide, and methane) capture heat and light from atmosphere of the earth, the temperature increases. These gases can damage humans, animals, and plants, who can not withstand the changes and die.
Just as there are many people who believe in global warming, you have your other side that believe global warming can have its pros. According to some Canadian scientists, global warming may have it’s advantages,“Canadian soil could have an agricultural gain from the heating climate.” From the book “Heatstroke: Nature is an age of global warming”, Anthony D. Barnosky says, “ So why worry about global warming, which is just one more scale of climate change.” Tómas Jóhannesson,a geophysicist says,“It’s not surprising that the warming effects of climate change can be beneficial for a cold country like Iceland.” In the movie “Not Evil Just Wrong” a man makes the risky statement of saying, “I don’t think it would be a bad thing for earth to warm up. In fact the ice is the enemy of life.” From the “ Prospect Magazine” Nigel Lawson says, “ In Europe, where climate change absolutism is at it’s strongest, the quasi-religion of greenery in general and the climate change issue in particular have filled the vacuum of organized religion, with reason questioning of its mantras regarded as a form of blasphemy.” From the book “Climate of Extremes” by Patrick Michaels and Robert Balling they said, “ Although global warming is real, it does not herald a climate crisis and that human beings cannot 'significantly alter the temperature trajectory of the planet.”All of these quotes make up the thoughts of people who think global warming may not be as bad as many think.
There are many people who believe that global warming is all bad, and are working hard to stop it. According to Elizabeth Kolbert from The New Yorker, “ People tend to focus on the here and now. The problem is that, once global warming is something that most people can feel in the course of their daily lives, it will be too late to prevent much larger, potentially catastrophic changes.” In her book “Field Notes From a Catastrophe: Man, nature, and climate change”, Elizabeth Kolbert, says, “What is now plain is that the emission of greenhouse gases at a rate that began as significant has become alarming.” John Roach from “National Geographic” says, “The Greenland ice sheets are melting three times faster today than it was five years ago, according to a new study.” Andrew C. Revkin from the “New York Times” wrote, “A Rhode Island size piece of the floating ice fringe along a fast-warming region of Antartica has disintegrated with extroardinary rapidity.” Another opinion came from the book “ The End of Nature” by Bill Mckibben where he says, “ To declare as some editorialists have done, that the warming has not yet appeared and therefore the theory is wrong is like arguing that a women hasn’t yet given birth and therefore is not pregnant.” From Al Gore’s movie “The Inconvenient Truth”, he states, “Future generations may well have occasion to ask themselves, “ What were our parents thinking? Why didn’t they wake up when they had a chance.” We have to here that question from them now.”These are all the quotes that we found from people who want global warming to stop. | Save the Planet
Maddie and I agree to disagree. I believe that global warming is not happening, but the earth’s climate is going through changes. Although I do not believe in global warming , I do believe that all of the human pollutions from buildings and factories are damaging our atmosphere. The human pollution is also causing our planet’s air to become unhealthy for humans and all life. Maddie believes that global warming is real and happening, and if we don’t stop now the world will soon be inhabitable. It will be the humans fault. We may have different ideas, but we strongly respect each other.
To sum it all up, if global warming continues we may have a huge problem on our hands. If we don’t stop it this could be the end of life existence on earth. Giving off green house gases will only continue to contribute to this problem. As man-kind we need to continue reducing our carbon footprint if we want keep our planet here. I hope we will all realize this before it is too late. Global warming is a problem that may be preventable with cooperation from all humans.
