S: my 5km walk in Autumn 2010

BC: all back cover photos were taken 18 November 2010

FC: all photos were taken either 26 Oct or 2 Nov 2010, unless indicated otherwise | view of the first 100 meters taken from Island Kitaguchi Station, 19 November 2010 | my 5 km walk

view of the city center from km zero, where it all begins... and ends | one fine day in November, as the wind blew gently and the sun shone just brightly enough to temper the chill that comes with the breeze. i gazed at the colors, felt the cool air on my skin, and wondered how change could come so quickly... | taken October 12

today, i waited till midday before starting my walk, going counter clockwise around the path, away from the mountains behind me into the sea that lies beyond.... | where just 3 weeks ago, i would hide from the sun and even skip my walks when i see it shining so brightly, i now seek it, grateful for the comfort its warmth brings | taken 18 November

i remember one particular monday (a holiday in honor of aged people from what i was told) - the day when i met the most number of people, pets and babies along the path. | cats going about their own business, unperturbed by joggers | the babies were in strollers, of course... the dogs were in all shapes, breeds, colors, sizes and not to mention, outfits... the joggers ranged from teenagers to those who have 20 to 30 years more than me but were a lot quicker than i could ever hope to be | a crow perched on the bench, blending totally with its surroundings, you have to look hard enough to see it

looking down from the first of the 6 bridges that adorn the entire path, and imagining how it all was, just 2-3 weeks before

moving quickly on thru the charms of km W800, not missing the fact that along the way, the sweet smell of newly baked bread and the noise from vehicles in the nearby highway filled the air

into bridge no. 2, or that which bears the name, sunset bridge

a view of the city from sunset bridge

down sunset bridge to km W1200

to km W1510, with its facilities so rarely used, if one were to rely on me as witness

perhaps it is that human tendency. or failing.. of taking for granted things already there

a fantastic view while crossing the third bridge: clear blue sky... green tennis lawn... green football field... colorful trees beyond

down km W1800, where all is calm and quiet

 on thru km W2000

and a quick look-back to catch the image of an old couple who passed me by, as they proceeded going the opposite way

view from the 3rd bridge: tennis court, football field, blue sky, colorful trees

 almost at km W2200

traversing the 500-meter stretch from km W2300

to where the clear blue sky meets the deep blue sea... | and where people take time out to catch fish ...or feed the birds,... or simply gaze at the sky

past halfway thru the path,, at km W2800, leaving the sea behind, and once again moving closer to the mountain beyond...

now crossing bridge number 4 that starts at km W3085

and leads to a canopy most sought after on sunny summer days

km W3500, taken 18 Nov | taken 18 Nov | play and fitness structures, benches, rest rooms, drink vending machines and exit points line the entire course, in an obviously planned and wonderfully well organized way

birds lend their presence throughout the path, with hums and chirps that are inspiring music to the ears

 taken 20 Oct | at km W3600 | taken 18 Nov

the 5th bridge, called Sunrise bridge leads to km W3800 and to a breathtaking view of white clouds calmly nestled on top of the mountain against the backdrop of an immaculately blue sky

a view of the city center from sunrise bridge

 to km W4000

 km W 4100

 km W4300 | km W4200

towards the enchanting km W4400 | taken 18 November

 taken 18 November

 on thru km W4500

towards the foot of bridge #6

view from the right side of bridge #6, with a glimpse of the bridge that connects Rokko Island to the rest of Kobe | view from the left side of bridge #6

km W4600 sits just right at the foot of bridge #6

km W4700 | lined mostly by evergreens

until km W5000 right there at the end from where the train passes above
