BC: The End | Tsunamis!
FC: By Darby Hieb, Nate Cruz, and Logan Romero | Tsunamis
1: Tsunamis occur most commonly as a result of submarine earthquakes, underwater landslides, meteorite impacts, and volcanic eruptions. The sudden movement of the Earth's crust cause by an under water earthquake, for example, displaces the water above it. This movement causes a high-energy wave to form, which then passes rapidly though the water.
2: one of the most deadliest and most devastating Tsunamis took place on the coastline of Indonesia and other places around the Indian Ocean on December,26,2004. Approximately 230,000 people were killed and 500,000 people were left homeless. Whole villages were knocked out and The Coastline of Indonesia just got destroyed. 1.3 million homes and buildings were destroyed, 120 km of roads, 18 bridges, 85% of the water and 92% of the sanitation system was demolished. This left families without anywhere to go and no way to fix the problem
4: A Tsunami is a very terrifying n\Natural Disaster that can kill several thousand people and destroy cities in a matter of a few minutes. A tsunami can travel up to 500 miles an hours and the wave heights can get up to 200 feet above the surface!
7: the technology that Indonesia is using now if there were to be an earthquake centered under the Ocean, a Tsunami alert may be used. The height of the Tsunami at landfall is strongly dependent on the topography of the coastline and adjacent Ocean floor, generalized predictions can be made regarding what areas are at greatest risk.
9: To Predict a Tsunami a devise measures water pressure which gives an indication of wave height and length. To prevent a Tsunami a town alarm system can warn people to leave the coastal city or town but nothing is availible to prevent a Tsunami from happening. | The cost of a so called Tsunami detector is around 100,00 U.S. dollars
