S: Remembering Cleo March 24, 2000 to December 20, 2011
BC: Gone But Not Forgotten There's a hole in my heart Where Cleo used to be. No words of condolence Or kind sympathies Can quiet the storm That I feel at my core Knowing dear Cleo _ Won't be here anymore. Friends say they're sorry Intentions are true. They can't understand What I'm going through; Grief's my companion Since I'm without you My soul's filled with sorrow I walk around blue. But there's comfort in knowing My beloved Cleo waits. She's crossed Rainbow Bridge And entered the gate Where all of God's creatures Who've passed from the Earth Are happy and healthy A blessed rebirth. So I thank you my Cleo_ For friendship so true When others deserted I could count on you I'll carry your memory Forever inside And patiently wait ‘Til you're back by my side. In Loving Memory Of Cleo

Dogs are not our whole life, but they make our lives whole. - Bettina Eddie | Poor Josey. Cleo is determined to snuggle with her even if she has to squeeze in at the back of the couch. They enjoy their first Thanksgiving meal together.
Now if we point to a spot in the dirt, she starts digging. If she hits a root, she tugs and tugs till it breaks free. Only problem... she doesn't like to stop.
We try to take good pictures of us with the girls before heading to my Mom's | As we loaded the presents, we couldn't find Cleo. We called and called her, but could not find her. Imagine our surprise when we found her in the truck hiding with the presents. | Cleo helped me wrap some of the presents by holding down the edge for me to tape.
They both liked the toys and treats from Grandma Cheshire | Cleo's first Christmas. We place all their toys in the middle of the living room while they go outside. They dive into the gifts once they come back in.
After opening up gifts at home, we head to Katy for Christmas with Granddad and Grammy Hamm. They both loved getting all the presents. We heard squeak, squeak, squeak till each toy broke. It was great.

Cleo spots the deer first, but waits for Josey | Cleo's eye lite up when she saw the big pile of sand. She thought we bought it just for her. She had a lot of fun digging tunnels while we spread the dirt.
Cleo and Josey love getting close to me... sometimes too close. Cleo still needs to snuggle with Josey for her afternoon nap especially if I'm not sitting down. Both girls with me and Grandma & Grandpa Cheshire
They both love to play in the yard. Cleo chews a hole in the toys to carry around. On a weekend trip to Lake Palestine, Cleo loved the water and wanted to jump in. Josey on the other hand wanted no part of the water.

"Dogs are not our whole life, but they make our lives whole." ~ Roger Caras
Josey could show her teeth to Cleo and Cleo would rush in and place her mouth inside Josey's. They look like they would hurt each other, but neither one would close their mouth. | Best Buds
 Ready for a PJ Party
Even though they forget their PJs, we all snuggle in for an afternoon nap. Cleo makes sure she is touching me and Josey. | Josey uses her Dogula costume this year. Cleo goes as herself. She looks embarrassed by Josey.
Cleo had to show Josey that she could stand on the back of the couch too.
"A dog is the only thing on earth that will love you more than you love yourself." ~ Josh Billings
Josey even wanted to laugh at our 'Charlie Brown' Christmas tree. But Cleo didn't mind as long as she got some toys. She was happy to get another wiggle giggle ball since she chewed through her old one.
It was a cold beginning to 2003. Cleo jumped up to get closer to the fire. When she warms up - she's back to playing with her ball. | 2003
"Until one has loved an animal, a part of one's soul remains unawakened." ~ Anatole France | Nothing makes Cleo happier than pushing around the large plastic eggs. She barks and barks as the egg bounces this way and that. She'll push it with her nose to you. Throw it or kick and off she goes.
No matter how little money and how few possessions you own, having a dog makes you rich. -- Louis Sabin
Our perfect companions never have fewer than four paws - Author Unknown | My Girl
Cleo never liked to be far from Josey. Even Josey has to check on Cleo while she sleeps. Cleo loved Josey more than anything. She would often cry when she couldn't find Josey - with the first sight of Josey, her crying turns to delight.
Josey guards all the presents. Not letting anyone touch them. Cleo likes to walk by real slow to test Josey. Josey gets up pushes Cleo with her body. | When Josey went outside, we were able to get a picture of Cleo with the tree.
Cleo is impatient with us opening her presents. She will now rip the paper from the gifts when we hold them. | Grammy Kay has a broke ankle this Christmas, but Cleo is by the table looking up for a hand out.
 Lucky Dog | 2004
Close your eyes and make a wish...
They are your friend, your partner, your defender, your dog. You are their life, their love, their leader. They will be yours, faithful and true, to the last beat of their heart. You owe it to them to be worthy of such devotion." - Unknown
Cleo plays so hard at times that she has to lean against the wall to rest. She didn't like the middle of the wall, so she always moves to the corner. I think it's so she can see us coming.
Time to take our annual Christmas picture that we take each Christmas Eve before heading to Grandma Cheshire's house. As usual it takes a few shots to get it right - well, almost right.
Grandma Cheshire cannot wait to give them their toys. As soon as we get there, they open their gifts. Cleo squeaked the little frog non-stop as she pushed it around the floor.
They both woke us up early to go outside - almost like they knew they would get more presents. We had everything ready when they came back inside. | PLAY | PLAY
Later we couldn't find Cleo.... then spotted her, well half of her, under the pillow on the couch. | PLAY | PLAY | SLEEP
2005 | If you didn't see her playing, you could find Cleo under a blanket or laying in the sun.
Cleo's birthday and Easter where only a few days apart. Josey noticed the baskets as soon as she walked in the room.
They are excited to get even more toys on Josey's birthday in June. Nothing could beat Cleo's excitement over the sandbox Wayne brought home for her. Once she got in, we had to start putting the top on to get her out.
"I've seen a look in dog's eyes, a quickly vanishing look of amazed contempt, and I am convinced that basically dogs think humans are nuts." -John Steinbeck
Cleo takes the picture with us and grabs a seat at Grandma Cheshire's - you can almost see the question in her eyes "When do I get my present?"
2006 | We took them on a weekend trip to Silverleaf Resorts in Lake Conroe. It takes Cleo a day to adjust to the place, but after that she's ready to play.
The water to low due to a drought. The Swim at Your Own Risk sign was in the water at one time. | Cleo has a lot of fun chasing the ducks back in the water.
Josey still does not want anything to do with the water. Cleo barks and bites at the small waves from the boats.
She wants to play miniature golf too. She tried to find out where the ball went as it passed through the little building. Later she crashed on the couch.
 My Pretty Girls
We have another load of sand delivered and she immediately climbs to the top to claim her prize. She slings dirt everywhere trying to get . . . something. She ends up covered in the dirt. So she goes from having the time of her life to being upset for having a bath. | Little | Moments | makes | Big | Memories
"I've seen a look in dog’s eyes, a quickly vanishing look of amazed contempt, and I am convinced that basically dogs think humans are nuts." -John Steinbeck
Once she learned how to get in her shoe, she would crawl in while I worked at the dining room table.
It was pouring down rain on Christmas Eve morning, so Wayne made them some raincoats. Josey's stayed on her, but Cleo walked out of hers before they got to the garage door.
I'm not sure why we continue to try for that 'perfect' Christmas picture of the family. They seem to know after we take the picture we'll load up the truck and head to Grandma Cheshire's house.
Cleo snuggles close to Wayne before we get out of the driveway. We're heading to Grammy Kay's. | Stand on to hold down | RIP | RIP and TUG | She gets her toy free
She likes to stretch before walking down the 'woody' - especially if Josey is laying there.
2007 | Cleo loved to go outside and chase the squirrels. She would wait by the tree for hours once she chased one up the tree.
While Cleo looks up the tree on one side, the squirrel makes a run for it down the other. She would see it as soon as it hit the ground running. | As Josey looked left, so would Cleo. When Josey would turn her head back, Cleo would hers too. It was like they were joined together.
Children are for people who can't have dogs.
Cleo was the first one to notice that the baskets had toys in them. We waited to Josey spotted them before we put them on the floor.
She ran around this tree waiting for a squirrel to come down. She would peek around the tree to keep her eye on where we were too.
Chasing the squirrels wore her out. She had to lay against the wall for a while.
She tried a new hiding spot to wait for the squirrels to come by. | Sometimes she would sleep twisted like a loaf of bread.
"No animal I know of can consistently be more of a friend and companion than a dog." -Stanley Leinwoll
Angel tries to find a place to nap, but Cleo will not budge. | Angel comes with us to Grandma Cheshire's for a visit. Cleo keeps putting her ears back. She looks so funny.
Christmas at Grandma Cheshire's was special this year - Leo, Christan and Dylan were able to visit. Josey and Cleo wore their jingle bells and enjoyed their toys from Grandma.
To get a picture, I had her toy ready to throw. She was ready to run to bring it back to me.
When they see bags packed, they stay close to the bags so we don't forget to bring them. They don't know the bags are their things.
 Happy 8th Birthday Cleo
Treat Time | Cleo loved chewing on the chicken strips. She was so excited to get this one, she didn't crawl all the way in her donut bed.
Every chance Cleo gets, she pushes her egg in the yard - barking as it twists and turns. She'll stand on top and try to bite a hole in it so she can carry it around. | Play Time
Another toy she likes to play with is the Devil ball because it has feet. That makes it unpredictable when she pushes it and makes it easy for her to carry. She sees Wayne has it and as he draws his arm back she hunkers down to take off.
Cleo is so focused on her devil ball that she does not move an inch with Josey jumping and landing right in front of her.
Cleo would bark and howl if we said "woo-woo a few times. She would run up by me and start barking, but then howl. | Little | Moments | makes | Big | Memories
Cleo walks around the yard with us after Hurricane Ike destroyed many of our trees.
She loved rolling around in Josey's bed - thinking she's a big dog too and needs the room.
I know I look funny, but you don't have to laugh. I was only trying to hear you better.
She is your friend, your partner, your defender, your dog. You are her life, her love, her leader. She will be yours, faithful and true, to the last beat of her heart. You owe it to her to be worthy of such devotion. -Unknown
Just ask the animals, and they will teach you... Job 12:7 | For the life of every living thing is in His hand... Job 12:10
We ate our dinner and had desert before checking out the gifts Grandma Cheshire had for us. Well.... Wayne and Cleo had desert - Josey was guarded the gifts. | Josey would push Wayne out of the way, so Cleo tried to help Wayne from the other side. | My girls are not spoiled, really they are not, I'm just well trained.
Once the stocking was empty, Cleo just knew something else had to be there. She nudged her nose in till I held it open so she could see for herself.
Even though we showed her the stocking was empty, she just couldn't believe that was all the toys she was getting. She would sit on the floor looking around as if saying "What is going on here?" She would check the stocking again for more toys.
We finally moved their gifts from under the tree to the center of the floor. Cleo was still upset that she didn't get to open them earlier. | It didn't take too long for her to start opening her gifts. | Once we held the first one for her to open, she took care of the rest on her own.
Grammy and Granddad brought their present to our house. They had special bags with their picture to know which on was theirs. | It took Cleo no time before she dug in her bag. Josey was letting Cleo open everything and then she'd grab it as Cleo started opening another. | After all the gifts were open, Cleo snuggled in her new blanket from Grammy Kay for her nap.
2009 | Cleo loved to be under the covers - especially when the weather turned cold. If it was too warm, she would come part way from under the cover. She loved her carpeted ramp that helped her get to her spot on the couch. When we called her name, she would look at us from the corner of her eye if she wanted to keep napping.
I found some larger eggs for Cleo to play with. She tried, but... she likes her smaller one.
These were a little too big for Cleo. She didn't know what to do with them.
Cleo loved when spring finally arrived - our doors stay open so she can go outside when she wants. She loved laying in the sun and rolling in the grass.
She would fly over the threshold to grab and shake a toy, so Wayne picked her up to show her how to fly. She looked at me like "Is he crazy?"
Cleo was a chewer. She loved chewing on the blanket. If I looked at her she would stop. Wayne picked her up and she let him know she wasn't happy.
Weekend at Lake Conroe - Cleo make a tent with the pillow and then looked under the couch for.... who knows.
She loved chasing the small waves. She would bark and bite the water up and down the lake.
Bark and bite the waves was repeated one the walk around the park. Cleo would end up drinking way too much lake water only to get sick. However, she'd do it all again as soon as she would get close to the water.
After dinner, Cleo and Josey watch us really close for any indication that we will go back outside.
Cleo would have tried to swim, but... she sinks to the bottom
She runs along the shore till she cannot run any more. At times, I would have to carry her back to the room.
Cleo tried swimming once - she couldn't manage to float upright. That hasn't stopped her from wanting to enjoy the water.
Along with biting the waves, she loves to chase the birds back over the water.
She's finally done with the water. Good thing too since the weekend is over,
Cleo might not snuggle with Josey to sleep, but she likes to sleep close. Cleo cries if she cannot find Josey. She loves her big sister.
Since Cleo loves to open presents, we wrapped up their Halloween toys. | Josey had to wait as Cleo opened the presents.
She didn't care for her hot dog costume.
It took us several tries, but we finally got a good picture of both of our girls by the Christmas tree.
Cleo didn't want to let me get a good one of her by herself. She wanted one with her sister, Josey.
"I've seen a look in dog's eyes, a quickly vanishing look of amazed contempt, and I am convinced that basically dogs think humans are nuts." -John Steinbeck
Cleo loved laying by the fire to get warm. I could almost hear her asking - well, where's the fire?
This year Cleo loved to pass the tree slowly just to get a reaction from Josey. Poor Josey couldn't sleep for worrying about the presents under the tree.
While Josey is on the other side of the tree, Cleo starts snooping to see if she can get to a toy.
Cleo has claimed her spot in Grandma's chair - it doesn't matter if Daddy or Grandma is sitting there too. | She ripped up the paper in no time to get to her toy inside.
They both fell fast asleep as soon as we left Grandma's house. | Cleo was like a kid on Christmas morning - she didn't waste any time waiting on us to get her toys.
I didn't think it was possible, but Cleo got tired of opening gifts and took a nap behind them.
 A Dog's Life
Roll Roll Roll The Dog | Josey was enjoying her day outside by herself. Cleo stayed by the front door, but...
I was outside taking pictures of Josey, so Cleo had to get in the shot.
Dogs are not our whole life, but they make our lives whole. - Bettina Eddie
When the temperatures dip too low, Cleo wears her little jacket outside - then runs back in to cover up. She loves it when spring arrives so she can play with her egg outside again.
As Cleo settles in by Josey, Josey starts rolling around. Cleo must have thought that was a good idea and did it too.
I wonder if Cleo was calculating how much a new toy would cost?
Cleo played with an old toy, but she really wanted one of the new ones from under the tree.
Josey was paying more attention to Wayne that she didn't see Cleo grab one of the presents. Wayne grabbed Cleo before she tore it open.
Cleo is so happy - Christmas is finally here and she can open that toy.
2011 | January brought cold weather, so Cleo sat by the fire for a while. When we made her move, she snuggled deep under the covers. She did not like going outside with the frost on the ground. I don't think I could tickle on an ice cube either.
Cleo gets real close to me to offer protection. She is 'talking' to Wayne before looking straight at me.
Cleo's 11th birthday. She moves so fast, my camera cannot focus on her opening her gift. My heart breaks as this was her last birthday.
Cleo watches while Josey catches the ball. She carries a small stick while Josey has her ball.
My sweet Cleo, I miss you more than words can say.
I miss holding you in my arms and snuggling close.
If Tears Could Build A Stairway If tears could build a stairway and memories a lane, We'd walk right up to Heaven and bring you home again. No farewell words were spoken, no time to say good-bye, You were gone before we knew it, and only God knows why. Our heart's still active in sadness, and secret tears still flow; What it meant to lose you no one can ever know. But now we know you want us to mourn for you no more, To remember all the happy times; life still has much in store. Since you'll never be forgotten, we pledge to you today: A hallowed place within our hearts is where you'll always stay.
Cleo liked to hang her head out of her bed and push her nose against the floor. Why you ask? Only Cleo knows.
Cleo started playing with her favorite toy - the egg - when she spotted her second favorite - the stick. | I wasn't sure what she was going to do. She picked up the stick and tried to push the egg with the stick. I laughed really hard seeing she was trying to combine her two favorite things.
She wasn't able to move the egg fast enough with the stick, so she dropped it and started pushing with her nose again.
She would push the egg close to you and stand back waiting for you to kick it her way. | She gives me that look that says -Go ahead, make my day. Then she'll look at the egg. As soon as you kick it, she takes off.
I heard Josey crying so I went in the bedroom to see why. Cleo was trying to get Josey's bedtime toy. | Later, I could hear Cleo making noises, but couldn't quite see her. Then I spotted her feet in Josey's bed. | I had my camera ready and clicked just as she came up from rolling around. She was having the time of her life.
Cleo saw the pumpkins in the yard and had to look to see if there were treats inside. | Cleo couldn't even look at Molly with the hot dog costume. | Everyone knows Molly's a poodle, not a wienie dog.
I was taking pictures of Molly for a calendar for Granddad John. Cleo would come up to me and look straight in the camera. She didn't like Molly was getting the attention. She also didn't like the Coca-Cola wagon.
A Little Dog Angel High up in the courts of heaven today a little dog angel waits; With the other angels she will not play, but she sits alone at the gates. "For I know my master will come" says she, "and when she comes she will call for me." The other angels pass her by as they hurry toward the throne, And she watches them with a wistful eye as she sits at the gates alone. "But I know if I just wait patiently that someday my master will call for me." And her master, down on earth below, as she sits in her easy chair, Forgets sometimes, and whispers low to the dog who is not there. And the little dog angel cocks her ears and dreams that her master's voice she hears. And when at last her master waits outside in the dark and cold, For the hand of death to open the door that leads to those courts of gold, She will hear a sound through the gathering dark, A little dog angel's bark.
Treasured Friend I lost a treasured friend today The little dog who used to lay Her gentle head upon my knee And shared her silent thoughts with me. She'll come no longer to my call Retrieve no more her favorite ball A voice far greater than my own Has called her to His golden throne. Although my eyes are filled with tears I thank Him for the happy years He let her spend down here with me And for her love and loyalty. When it is time for me to go And join her there, this much I know I shall not fear the transient dark For she will greet me with a bark. - Unknown
After Thanksgiving meal, Josey and Cleo took their nap.
Our world came crashing down on December 20, 2011. If I could have turned back the clock and not taken you to have your teeth cleaned and fatty tumor removed, you would still be with me today. We did not have Christmas in 2011. I could not manage to open a gift that would not have what my heart truly wanted. We only wanted you - my sweet little Cleo. We only wanted you.
We Only Wanted You They say memories are golden well maybe that is true. We never wanted memories, We only wanted you. A million times we needed you, a million times we cried. If love alone could have saved you you never would have died. In life we loved you dearly, In death we love you still. In our hearts you hold a place no one could ever fill. If tears could build a stairway and heartache make a lane, We'd walk the path to heaven and bring you back again. Our family chain is broken, and nothing seems the same. But as God calls us one by one, the chain will link again. - Vicky Holder
Pictures that Grammy Kay took of Cleo while we were on vacation. We told her she was at Camp Hamm.
Rainbow Bridge By the edge of a woods, at the foot of a hill, is a lush, green meadow where time stands still. Where the friends of man and woman do run, when their time on the earth is over and done. For here, between this world and the next, is a place where each beloved creature finds rest. On this golden land, they wait and they play, till the Rainbow Bridge they cross over one day. No more do they suffer, in pain or in sadness, for here they are whole, their lives filled with gladness. Their limbs are restored, their health renewed, their bodies have healed, with strength imbued. They romp through the grass, without even a care, until one day they start, and sniff at the air. All ears prick forward, eyes dart front and back, then all of a sudden, one breaks from the pack. For just at that instant, their eyes have met; together again, both person and pet. So they run to each other, these friends from long past, the time of their parting is over at last. The sadness they felt while they were apart, has turned into joy once more in each heart. They embrace with a love that will last forever, and then, side by side, they cross over together. - Unknown
