18: Frank was born in Astoria, Long Island. July 7, 1915 | He only spoke German at home, and learned English in Kindergarten in Paterson, New Jersey. He skipped two grades in Elementary school.
19: He grew up in Wortendyke, New Jersey on 16 Greenwood Ave. He attended Ridgewood High School.

25: Army Facts. | Registered for the draft 10/11/40 Deferred 1/27/41 Draft card dated 4/20/43 Camp Ellis, Illinois - Basic training 8/26/43 11/2-11/9, 1943 Took the Queen Elizabeth from New York to Greenock, Scotland. After landing in Scotland, they shipped to Southern England and stayed there. He visited Bath, Bournemouth, and London. He visited Scotland again, he went to Edinburgh and Cheddar. They got on a ship in Truro out of the English Channel and went to Normandy from there. He landed at Normandy Beach 4 days after D Day. (D Day was April 28, 1944)
27: Frank was in Paris, 2 days after it was liberated. He spent VE DAY 5/8/45 in Chemmitz, Germany with Russian soldiers. They gave him his first taste of vodka. In 1945 , he sailed home on the ship THE NORDHAM. | Jan 1945 - Esch, Luxembourg Feb. 1945 Aachen, Germany April 1945 Cologne and Remagen, Germany May 1945 Gera to Alsfeld, then to Chemmitz, Germany. While in the Army, Frank drove an oil truck, worked, in the laundry unit, and was a translator.
30: Eleanor and Frank worked in the New York Hospital together. She worked in the kitchen making salads for the doctors. He worked in the supply area.

32: Frank held many jobs during his lifetime. After he returned from the Europe, he worked at the Watson Machine Co. in Paterson, making wire. While going to night school for accounting, he worked at Dupont in Pompton Lakes, N.J. making detonator caps for the Navy. Then he moved onto the Midland Park Lumber Co. , where he was an accountant until he retired in 1973 at age 58.
