FC: Old Cowtown Museum Wichita, KS

Old Cowtown Entrance This contemporary structure harkens back to Wichita's rustic origins with natural elements such as stone and exposed unfinished wood. The building also houses a great room to accommodate large gatherings. Professionals involved in this space are: Facilities staff, Marketing and Membership staff, and Security staff. Main museum professionals involved in this space are Museum Shop staff, Public Affairs staff, and Special Events staff.

The Arkansas River flows alongside Old Cowtown Museum outside the Visitor Center. This wooden arcade leads visitors to the Pathway to the Past. Museum professionals involved in this space would be Exhibit Designers, Educators, and Security staff.

The Pathway to the Past is lined with informational plaques. Museum staff responsible for this feature are Educators, Curators, and Exhibit Designers.

The Director of Eduation reminds me to not forget the contributions of the Educational staff. | The Traders Cabin is located on the Pathway to the Past. It was originally located on the Chisholm Trail and relocated to Old Cowtown. | Museum Staff involved would be Educators, Curators, Exhibit Designers, Collections Staff, and Registrars

Looking down the front street from the Residential Street to the Industrial/Business Area. | This very complex area is influenced by many museum professionals, such as: Conservators, Curators, Exhibit Designers, Registrars, and of course Educators.

These "Recreators," as they prefer to be called, according to the Education Director, are all volunteers. After April 15, several Recreators will be hired for the summer season. Their costumes are period-specific and in the case of the woman with a parasol, was created on a period sewing machine. The carpenter, left, demonstrates an 1880s-era table saw. The blacksmith, right, is making nails.

As stated before, this Industrial/Business Area of the museum is particularly complex, having influence from many museum professionals. Educators, Curators, Exhibit Designers, Conservators, Collections Staff, and the Chief Information Officer are likely all involved.

The depot (above) and hotel (right) are similar to the rest of the Industrial/Business Area (far right) in that many of the same museum professionals are involved: Curators, Exhibit Designers, Registrars, Educators, as well as technicians trained to move structures, an uncommon museum pforession.
