BC: THE END

FC: Perseus | Kandice Carman Sarah Larimer

1: Once upon a time, there was a king in Argos named Acrisius. He had only one daughter, named Danae, who was very beautiful. But King Acrisius received a prophecy from a priestess that her future son would kill him. Because he was afraid of making the gods mad, he was not able to kill his daughter. So he imprisoned her in a golden house underground, so she could never have the child.

2: But in her prison Danae was visited by Zeus, the King of the Gods, who brought her a baby boy named Perseus. She tried to hide the baby from King Acrisius but found out and he was very angry. To avoid his death he put them in a great chest and cast them in the water.

5: One day a simple fisherman named Dictys found the chest. Him and his wife took Perseus and his mom in as their own, and they lived comfortably for many years. But one day Dictys' brother, Polydectes, who was the ruler of the island wanted to marry Perseus' mother. Polydectes he didnt' want to adopt Perseus though, so he had a party and everyone brought gifts except for Perseus. He had nothing he could give so he offered the impossible gift of bringing an gorgon's head to Polydectes as a gift. So he set off to kill a gorgon.

6: Our Wedding Day | Perseus luckily had two gods watching over him as he went on his journey. First he went to Delphi to talk to the priestesses, and they told him to go to Dodona, the land of the oak trees, to find where the gorgons lived. It was hopeless because the trees didn't know where they lived. Hermes then appeared to him and led him to the three great women who share one eye. They gave him directions to the land of the Hyperboreans, who lived in the North.

9: Perseus and Hermes then went to the Hyperboreans where they feasted and had a fun time. So then the kind people gave Perseus three gifts. The gifts included: winged sandals, and invisibility cap and a magic wallet. With these gifts and Athena's shield and Hermes' sword he was ready to face the Gorgons.

11: When Perseus arrived the Gorgons, creatures with big wings, scales, and hair made of snakes, were asleep. Since looking at them directly would turn him into stone, he looked at them through their reflection in the shield. With a single thrust of his sword he cut off her head and put it into the magical wallet. On his way back home he came to Ethiopia where he saved the Princess Adromeda. He fell in love with her at first sight and they got married.

13: When Perseus came home he had found that Danae and dictys had taken refuge in a temple away from the angry king Polydectes. Perseus held up Medussa's head and turned the King and his people into stone. Dictys was then made King of the island, and Perseus, his mother, and Andromeda went back to Greece. While Perseus was participating in an athletic contest he accidently killed his grandfather who was watching the competition, just as Apollo's oracle had predicted. Medussa's head was then given to Athena who bore it on Zeus' shield.
