I've heard them talk about the people that were here before. They called them heathens. I'm not sure what that means.

It seems like the heathens know more about living here than we do. They don't seem hungry or fearful like us.

That night I over heard my parents talking about the heathens and how everyone should start listening to them. If we don't we will not survive.

My father went to the elders and told them about the day at the market. They all agreed with him that there was something to learn from the heathens.

A while later, my father came home with excitement because we are doing better thanks to the heathens. I think that in the days to come that we learned enough to survive next winter.

I think the heathens are now our friends.
