FC: Summertime Jobs A book of poems Alexandra Creekmore

A Note from the Author Dear Parent, This is a book of poems written at a second grade reading level, but it is enjoyed by children in all primary grades. The vocabulary is appropriate for children of this age and the rhyming patterns will be pleasing to them. The poems have to do with jobs associated with the summer. The colorful images of other children like themselves will hold their attention. As an elementary school student, I loved rhyming books because of the rhythms that poems usually have. I hope your child gets as much out of these poems as I do. Alexandra Creekmore

 You're on Deck | Being a coach | momsteam.com

The coach says “get your helmet on, Becka, you’re on deck!” Uh-oh that means I’m batting, I’m a nervous wreck. | The pitcher throws the ball to me. I swing, I miss, oh no! Will I get a hit this time? I really hope so. | buzzle.com

Will I get a hit this time? I really hope so. I hit the ball and drop the bat I’m running to first base. I got there before the ball did I guess I won the race. | I hit the ball and drop the bat I’m running to first base. I got there before the ball did I guess I won the race. | ctpost.com | My coach is standing next to me, Now he's excited too. He tells me that we're down one run, I know that that's my cue.

It’s Molly’s turn, she swings her bat. I need to get safely in. I cross the plate. I’m safe at home. We win, we win, we win! | Now Katie is up; it’s in the air, She hits a long fly ball. I’m running very carefully And trying not to fall. | lehighvalleylive.com

The Beach is Where I Feel I Most Belong | Being a lifeguard

Oh, summer is the time I love the most. When school is over, then the fun begins. We pack the car and drive down to the coast To spend some time with all our closest friends. The thing about the beach I most adore Is lying in the summer sun all day. I watch the seagulls fly along the shore, And wish that time would stop so I could stay.

The lifeguards keep their eyes on all of us From up upon their heavy wooden chairs. The babies on the beach make quite a fuss When sounds of lifeguard whistles fill the air.

The children building castles are so sweet. The colors of the ocean warm my heart. I love to feel the sand beneath my feet. The seashells that I find are works of art.

The beach is where I feel I most belong, I wish that summer lasted all year long.
